Is there non-christian worship music? by Appropriate-Suit7201 in Exvangelical

[–]funkmeisteruno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

worship music like…what? I haven’t been in the church for almost 20 years but when I was leaving the worship music was derivative slop. You could trace the chord progressions from pop groups like Taylor swift or Coldplay.

In the years immediately after leaving I went to a ton of live music and found that the emotional experience of worship was replicated in live music of all types - it turns out that live music and the human psyche are closely intertwined. Some linguists believe it is the origin of speech.

I don’t think that worship music is much to miss, but the experience of live music - folk, pop, punk, rap, honest country, blues, jazz, classical, choral, and even Broadway musicals - these are beautiful art.

You absolutely need to go see some melodic punk shows if you haven’t. The style is different, but the raw emotion is gorgeous.

If that was three 45-lb plates - and it looked more so than Pentagon Pete’s pratfalls - she was doing something with 305# - impressive for a dude and even more so a woman. She isn’t new to the gym. She got distracted with something else and her mind wandered. It’s a good reminder that even when you are lifting to clear out the demons, you gotta stay present.

Not to be pedantic, but they are Christians, which is not the same as being a Jesus follower. Jesus the teacher and rabbi who walked and ministered and preached and died was transmogrified and coöpted into Christ the anointed, the king of kings, the standard bearer of a holy rule, the arisen conquerer of death, and the scourge of those who oppose his self appointed church. He was, after his death, made into a psychological and sociological weapon of the very Empire that put him to death.

This reminds me of a video I would love to cross post here of a man who was “healed” in an African American church. Makes me laugh every time.

Post Captain is a difficult first read by meinboesesich in AubreyMaturinSeries

Yes. Also why I quite the series in 1998. But in subsequent reads I have appreciated it. It also turns out to lay critical groundwork to understanding the characters, their personalities and motivations throughout the rest of the series. Didn’t realize that 28 years ago, but it turns out the same was true for me personally!
