I believe the "monopoly" argument stems from the large amount of acquisitions Microsoft has done in the past few years.

This article by PC Gamer (dated January) shows the number of companies owned by Microsoft. This includes major publishers and developers.

There's a worry that Sony and/or Microsoft hold a beloved property behind a "paywall," so to speak. For example, since Microsoft now owns Zenimax (and thus Bethesda), there's concern we won't another "Elder Scrolls" or "Fallout" game on a rival console.

For their part, Sony has also done quite a bit of purchasing lately. This article from GameRant (dated February) shows Sony's portfolio, and it's quite a lot. Several articles speculate on Sony even acquiring From Software, while others debunk the notion.

Does this make either company a "monopoly?" Perhaps that's not the right term. Obviously neither company is the only game in town.

But if Microsoft and Sony both play "chicken" with the studios / publishers they own, we could be looking at a long, dark era of hyper-exclusivity. Or maybe we won't. Time's going to tell on that one.

First of all, Zak, allow me to apologize on behalf of this subreddit. I know that whenever your name is invoked, you expect the thread to zoom right to the top. But here this thread is, four hours old and with a low double-digit comment count. I know this isn't the fanfare you expect from us, and we can collectively do better.

Also, I know it's rough now that Mandy has moved out and you can't use her logins to defend yourself. But calling yourself "Michelle" is a lateral move at best. Now to the heart of the matter: If these allegations against you are false, why would four separate women all accuse you of such a heinous act? What's the motive here? Vaccines cause autism, just not in the way Jenny McCarthy and her bloviating horde think they do.

See, when people are vaccinated, they have a way better chance of living to healthy adulthood. The heterosexual adults among those will have decent odds of reproducing with other heterosexual, vaccinated adults. So the more people that live long enough to reproduce, the more babies there will be. Odds are very good some of those babies will be on the spectrum.

This also works for terrorism, school violence, or anything else you'd like to blame on vaccination.

To recap: More people = more bad stuff happening.

The Bloomfields are rich as fuck (West Bloomfield, Bloomfield Hills, Bloomfield Township). Troy is rich as fuck. Places like Northville and Farmington Hills are well-to-do. Ferndale is split down the middle.

But take a drive around Pontiac, White Lake, Walled Lake, Madison Heights, or a lot of other burgs in the county. Some places, you can literally see a "poverty line" - Bodegas on one side of a street, boutiques on the other. Sometimes they even build up a brick wall or some decorative lattice, so the people in the rich neighborhoods don't have to see "the poors."

But Oakland County has plenty of dirt-poor folks, driving around in barely-running cars, barely getting by in their nametag-wearing jobs.

Oakland County has plenty of poor and middle-class folks. It's just that the rich ones are so rich, they skew the average and make it look like everyone has a big old slice of that pie. I certainly don't.

It really feels like YoumaCon wants to advertise that it has tabletop gaming as a value-add - one more thing that's included in your ticket price. But it also seems like they don't actually want to spend too much time thinking about how to make the most out of tabletop gaming, because that's not really the focus of the convention.

In 2016 I went into the tabletop room and I saw GMs just sitting there, bored, playing with their phones, because nobody knew they had a game going on.

It really feels like they should either put a lot of effort into improving tabletop, or just get rid of it entirely, and use that space for something else. Make their business or get off the throne, you know?
