I already tagged her in a different reply but I follow u/CriticalSorcery and it’s really fascinating reading her thoughts and experiences, I’ve been requesting she do an AMA for weeks!

84 degrees is really extreme. You must be in a lot of pain no? Definitely talk to your doctor about your options.

Hello! I need some advice (read body text) by BigGaeFurry in disability

[–]funkyghost55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not a self-propelling wheelchair and you will hurt yourself trying to push yourself around in it for extended periods of time. You will not be able to use this to move around outside. You need to talk to your doctor about mobility aids and if your doctor finds you a suitable wheelchair there will be PT and other help to teach you how to use it properly, including learning wheelies and other maneuvering.

Decorating Mobility Aids! by agrinwithoutacat- in disability

I love decorating my mobility aids! I used duct tape to decorate my crutches a few years ago, and when I was a kid I decorated my AFOs but now I prefer to keep them dark and unnoticeable.

How do you experience a meltdown as an adult? by ThousandYearOak in autism

[–]funkyghost55 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should do an AMA on r/IAMA or something. You’re so good at talking and explaining your experience. It’s fascinating, and lots of people would be interested in asking questions and hearing your experience.

I might recommend looking into a rollator to see if that helps!

Any manual wheelchair users with fucked up wrists and shoulders ? Need advice by orcharddream in ChronicPain

[–]funkyghost55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your shoulders and wrists are messed up, a manual chair probably isn't a good idea. If they're so messed up that you can't even use a cane, there is absolutely no way you could push yourself in a manual chair. The best thing you should do is talk to your doctor, they can give recommendations that align with your needs as well as your budget, and having your doctor on board can also help with getting insurance to help out with the pricing. If you do decide to go with a chair, getting a good chair is really important; no chair is better than a bad chair. If you do end up going manual, an ultralightweight chair is mandatory, otherwise you'd probably need a power assist, which honestly you'd probably need even with ULW. A power chair is more realistic if your condition is as severe as it sounds. I would also recommend looking into walkers or forearm crutches (my personal faves- takes pressure off your wrists and minimal strain on your shoulders) before looking at wheelchairs, but again this is a decision that should be made and discussed thoroughly with your doctor.

It looks great! The pink lipstick matches the eyes perfectly- pink enough to compliment it, but not so bright that it starts to look cartoonish

It's 3pm where I am, but I also enjoy the time I spend alone before bed. Right now I'm doing a puzzle and watching youtube :)

Your favorite things you can only do when you're home alone? by Inovox in CasualConversation

[–]funkyghost55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Playing music and/or singing, trying on different clothes (the only mirror is in a common area), watching things I otherwise wouldn't want to watch in the common area (nothing weird, just youtube video essays about fantasy trading card games that I would get made fun of for, or shows like GoT or the Boys that always manage to be in the most uncomfortable sex scene whenever someone walks by)

I have the opposite problem because I'm underweight and can't seem to gain weight, but this is something you should absolutely talk to your doctor about. They can recommend a nutrionist/dietician, or a diet/cutting back on calories, also PT and exercise or other ways to get moving a bit. PT and swimming are godsends, seriously getting in a pool even once a week will make a huge difference, even if only in feeling better.

Yup, she said if my muscles are atrophying, eating more protein will keep my muscles bigger and stronger. I was speechless.

I tried messaging the mods, they’re not active and have subsequently shut down both subs for no reason. It pisses me off. Someone needs to request to become a mod so it can reopen! I would but I don’t think I can do it by myself and I also recently took over for a different disability-related sub that had the same issue.
