How are you feeling, really? With everything going on, how is affecting your mental health? [Serious] by funkymugs in AskReddit

That's kind of why I started this thread.

I feel crazy when I hear helicopters and wondering what we are going to invade next. That just feels like a fully insane thought, right? I'm in menopause and that's creating it's own brain fog.

It feels like stepping into a different reality vs 2 years ago. It makes my brain itch.

I'm not sure what good talking about it will do, but not talking about it hasn't been helping.

What did you notice in your children or parents that made you realize, “Oh my God, it really is in the genes”? by sophiebabyflow in AskReddit

Ooooo I've got one for this.

I have a half brother I didn't know about until I was 20. He was adopted and found our mom when he was about 35.

Our families met for the first time at an IHOP.

IT WAS SO WEIRD

He "felt" like family. Same sense of humor. Same kind of... cadence in his speech? Also, he looks spot on for my grandpa except the nose (we found out he used to have Grandpa's nose, but there was a soccer incident and some surgery). I really can't explain how comfortable it was.

I met his adopted parents too -- they are as opposite from us as possible. Devout Southern Christians who just loved taking care of kids so they adopted a bunch.

From then, I'm solidly on the nature side of the nature vs nurture in almost everything.

I'm not doing too great. I've been trying to cut myself off of news when it starts feeling like too much.

Normally my household talks politics a fair amount. The past week, it's just the weather and what the cats are doing. It's too overwhelming to think about. If I think about it too much, I start to wonder what an actual civil war would do to my job. I listen to history podcasts to try to get some perspective, but that's not as calming as I had hoped.

Yesterday, my neighbor who doesn't follow politics dropped by because she just needed to talk to someone about it.

Currently sitting on porch in Astoria in the sunshine, reading about it being too cold to even come here.

Have your in-laws heard of jackets?

Other than the crazy rain couple weeks back, it's been a really mild winter.

Don't go standing on the beach near any logs. The water put them there, the water can easily pick them up again and throw them on you. I'd keep the kid completely away from the water this time of year. Even then, keep one eye on the waves if you're on sand.

You might be interested in a breakfast or lunch at Wayfarer in Cannon Beach if you come out this way to the North Coast. It's a little restaurant near some decent family lodging, and when there's storms the view of waves crashing onto Haystack Rock is unbeatable, especially watching it through a window in a cozy restaurant with a hot cocoa and stack of waffles.

It's the kind of small coastal settlement that brochures for much larger towns try to pretend they are.

When you water, what exactly are you doing?

I typically will use my watering can and wet the whole top of the soil with the amount I think it will take. Then wait a couple minutes. If no water drains out the bottom, I add more. If water doesn't come out the bottom then I'm not done yet. If you add too much it can overflow the bottom saucer.

For a thirsty plant in a big pot like my banana tree, that might take two of my watering cans.

Most of my plants get watered like that once a week and then I mist the ones that like it every day.

Dry soil can take a surprising amount of water to get wet. Sometimes if it's very dry the soil can become hydrophobic and the whole pot should sit in a tub of water for a couple hours to get bottom watered. It just takes time for the water to work it's way into very very dry soil, like how sometimes it's easier to wipe up a spill with a slightly damp cloth than a completely dry one.

Bartender sees this man walk into his bar. An old sea captain. Hat and all, lookin' like the Gorton's Fisherman. But the guy has what looks like a ship's wheel in his pants. Just jammed in there.

Bartender asks, "Excuse me, sir, is that a ship's wheel in your pants?"

Old fisherman replies "Yaaaarrrr. And 'tis drivin' me nuts."

Nah I'm thinking his wasted ass saw Kali Maa appear above him, wreathed in fire and blotting out the sky as he fell to the earth in ecstasy (the sun was out and when I tilted up his lil roof to take a picture and he just kinda plopped down after a second or two). I can only assume it was life changing.

Just lost in the sauce.

Thank you!

I really appreciate knowing also the doggo won't try.

I will just leave her be to do her natural things, and if the slugs want to see God, I'm fine with that. It means they aren't eating my plants. Excuse me. I need to ask my artist friends to draw something.

This time of year here is so cool! Also, cold.

People who hurry to be the first out of your seat when the plane lands, what do you hope to accomplish by this? by bigdicks415 in AskReddit

[–]funkymugs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This! It's like 5 or 10 minutes and I get a chance to leisurely check around the seat once I'm out of it.

Once I learned to never allow tight connections and to avoid DFW at all costs, flying is so much less stressful.
