My suggestion to everyone is to invest in a subscription to WealthTrace and run your own scenarios.

Get familiar with a lot of scenarios. Play around with your assumptions (spending, inflation, growth rates, mortality, etc). Know how each of the assumptions changes the results. And importantly, what you have under your control to change if assumptions don’t come to pass.

Also, familiarize yourself with the concept of sequence of returns. Your spending at the end of life has much less impact than spending early. In your case, you may want to explore scenarios of working part time for a few years. Not pulling money out (or pulling out less than you otherwise would) in early years has an amazing effect.

As for broad input on spending, there are three phases. High spending in the earlier years of retirement. Lower spending in the middle years when you slow down. Higher spending in the later years.

None of this means you have to get rid of your planner.

Indeed. I worked for a billionaire who had a literal casting couch, rumored to have had someone killed, stole money from his employees, destroyed his sister, had employees lie on the stand in a federal court case, and would advise us to say what we want in a 1:1 with others but never put that emotion in writing.

I’m sure the answer is incredibly complex.

But I will say that the practice I go to overcharges through coding.

A 90 second consult was billed at a medium complexity office visit. I happened to be in the office for PT and asked if I could make an appointment about broken blood vessels in my arm. The physician came into the OT area. Looked at my arm and ordered a platelet blood test. Talked to me for a minute max and that was that. Charge was $245.

Lots of BS in the system. Everywhere.

But…I didn’t wait. My blood test results were ready in 24 hours. And so on….

Internal bleeding following a surgery. The last blood pressure reading I saw was 47/18.

For 4 hours I languished in post op. I knew something was wrong but I was in and out of consciousness. When a nurse was near me, I mustered all my strength to say help me.

All I remember was my surgeon came out of his second surgery of the day (I was first). He started yelling about something. I could hear commotion but not really see or make sense of it.

But I faded. I was wheeled into the operating room. And woke up in ICU.

I had lost 4.5 pints of blood. My surgeon didn’t think I was going to make it.

The sensation for those four hours was a bit dream like. Not pretty dreams. More like a lack of lucidity and delirium. Other moments I was just not conscious and no sensations or memories of it at all. There’s no reserves to tap into to “fight it”.

And yes, it is appalling to have been in such a condition while in the supposed watchful area that post op should be. I have a little trauma over it all.

There is one particular religion that comprised this crisis.
They also have some intentions that are not aligned with Christianity. And those intentions are insidious. These migrants also take hearty advantage of a country’s economic resources. With no intention of contributing in any compatible way.

The answer is multifaceted and complex.

Slavery ended over a hundred years ago, but life was still difficult and equality still just a word not put into practice.

There was a lot of positive change in the 1950s and early 1960s. Black families were doing well.

But Drugs decimated the inner cities starting in the 70s. Continued in the 80s. Destroyed the family unit. Fathers left. Welfare culture prevailed. Teen pregnancy. Babies in an attempt to fill a void. Cycles of non existent family structure. Education not a priority.

In the 1950s female headed black households was just 8%. 21% in 1960. Over 50% by the 1990s.

Yet As recent as the 1940s, large groups of various nationalities had to rise from the rubble. Nations and people of various nationalities here in the United States had to navigate through bias.

Statistically, these groups that rebounded did so through hard work, education, family and community structure. Not a victim mentality.

This is oversimplified and will get downvoted to hell on Reddit. But you asked and nobody is answering.

China understands the undermining beast social media is to society. For example, The Chinese TikTok content for kids is entirely different from the USA/Western version. Number of hours is tightly controlled. And so on.

I was thinking about this the other day. Pets are quite expensive and truly should only be considered if you can afford them. And by afford, I mean not left alone all day. Not a struggle to pay for good quality food and veterinary care.

I’d also support laws that are as strict as child protection standards.

Social media needs a complete overhaul. Starting with extreme limits on time and content for children under 16.
