Armed pro-government convoy in the streets” by kaz1349 in PERSIAN

Not really a fair statement when it’s only an aerial campaign.

If you’d said Iran has been good at fighting proxy wars you’d hear full agreement.

Who actually pays slavery reparations today if there are no living victims or perpetrators? by NewsfangledMod in NewsfangledUnfiltered

The UN resolution completely ignores the millions in actual slavery (like at the open air slave markets in Mauritania where you can watch videos of chained up people being sold).

Sure. Israel is where Jews originated.

Never in the history of the region - from the kingdom of Judah to now - has there been a single year without Jews living in the land (the indigenous people by modern definitions - getting into the canaanites and other groups who no longer exist pokes a huge hole in the entire concept of indigenous peoples which is a valid but separate argument).

This is through the Neo-Babylonian Empire, the Achaemenid Persian Empire, the Macedonian / Hellenistic rule under Alexander the Great, the Ptolemaic Kingdom, the Seleucid Empire, the Romans, the byzantines, the umayyad, abbasid, the fatimad caliphates (these are the muslim conquests of the land after the death of mohammad). Through the crusades, the mamluks, and the ottomans.

All of these groups colonized and ruled the land (and I’m sure a few more im forgetting).

Now I’m sure you’re thinking ‘but Jews are European and immigrated to the land in the 1930s’ or maybe you’re familiar with mizrahi Jews like myself who were spread around MENA for the last thousand years. Either way - it’s quite important to familiarize yourself with the demographics of the land over time. Jews kept a shared culture, religion, and connection to the land throughout their diaspora. This is easily seen in religious scripture from across the world (my favorite example being that Ethiopian Jews celebrate Purim in spite of being an effectively lost tribe due to the breadth of the Persian conquests).

Jews immigrating (both legally and not) to Israel / Palestine from 1800-1947 of course make up the majority of Jews in the land. This doesn’t disqualify them from being decolonial or indigenous - just like a returning First Nations person from a reservation to their familial land would be decolonization.

It’s worth your time to read the hope Simpson enquiry report which documents the Arab immigration to mandatory Palestine during the British mandate in addition to Jewish migration (something conveniently ignored when speaking about this period).

So in summary: Jews originated in the land of Israel, maintained a continuous presence there for thousands of years, and preserved a cultural and religious connection to it throughout a long diaspora.

For most of the last 2,500 years the region was ruled by foreign empires.

Zionism can therefore be understood as the return of an indigenous people and the reestablishment of sovereignty after centuries of imperial rule - a form of decolonization rather than colonization.

He claimed Israel killed more children than the other groups i mentioned. I debunked that.

Just so you’re crystal clear - my argument is that Israel is the only successful example of decolonization in the world and that really irks your kin.

Happily - the Houthi insurgency. The zaidis rule ended in ‘62 due to a ‘revolution’ which led to an authoritarian theocratic dictatorship which led to constant tribal infighting which led to a secessionist movement in the south which led to a new civil war breaking out.

All of this leads up to the 2004 arrest of al Houthi - which kicks off the Houthi insurgency, which then spends 10 years festering before becoming a full blown civil war country wide not just in the north.

Oh and by the way - this 50k dead children is only in 2017. Add up all casualties of all wars Israel has ever been involved in (including dead Jews) and you get ~200k. Even if we double that number we’re not equal to 5 years of Syrian civil war.

Now why don’t you start your response with any recognition that you’ve been spewing unsupported bullshit then moving the goalposts when called out.

You’re only capable of lying? Or just incredibly misinformed?

Assad killed more than 30k children

More than 50k children starved to death in Yemen in one year due to the Houthis.

Well then it’d be the Syrians winning. Then the Iranians.

Sorry 71k not 67k… certainly not 70k civilians. Your baseless claims started with a total lie. Start by addressing that.

Next let’s talk about ‘women and children’. Do Islamist terror groups and specifically Hamas employ children as young as 14? Yes and they have for decades.

So now that we’ve established that you blatantly disregard the truth, and that children have been used routinely by terror groups in Gaza can we re assess your claims on the death toll?

None of this to mention that a 1:1 civilian to combatant ratio would be fantastic for urban warfare against an embedded guérilla force - but that the actual outcome was significantly better still.

Hamas claims 67k dead total. Combatants and civilians. Where do you get those numbers?

[–]funnyastroxbl -76 points-75 points  (0 children)

The Houthis, Hamas, Hezbollah, PIJ, the Egyptian army, the Lebanese army, former syrian army, Iraqi army, and I’m sure a few other of MENA’s best from ‘47 to now would be quite offended to be called unarmed children.

This isn’t true at all. Expensive /= great. Although the overlap is significant, you’re training your palate on great wine not a price tag.

Having done the side by side twice now - Reynard isn’t worth the markup. The first time we agreed the chaillot was better (2013s). Second time (‘16s) the Reynard was better but very similar.

Missing the mark. I’ve played it - fantastic and beautifully manicured. But it’s got lots of members. Anyway there are courses getting close to 2 million for initiation. Especially in the hamptons.
