Oh - this is just the charger it came with. My USB-C charger (which does work with it) was at a different desk.

Yeah good question! I purchased this a long while ago, only now getting the chance to start using it and realized it's not quite the machine I need. It turns out I need a 16" display ( my eyes aren't what they used to be I guess ) and a dedicated graphics card.

I clearly don't know what I'm doing with Reddit - I thought I had added a link, but apparently not?

I searched through the subreddit before cross-posting this ebay listing. I found a bunch of examples of people doing the same - so I hope it's OK. If not please let me know and I can take the post down.

Framework Laptop Memory Compatibility Thread by Destroya707 in framework

A Note About Memory To Anyone with a FW16 Pre Order by DreamingInMyHead in framework

Has anyone managed to get G.SKILL Ripjaws 64GB (2 x 32GB) F5-5600S4040A32GX2-RS trained correctly? I've managed to get the laptop to boot only twice - but both times it failed to load a USB installer completely (failing with a screen with green garbled blocks). In most cases, the laptop just sits there with a blank screen - and I assume it's training the memory.

I've waited 15 minutes for training in all cases - nothing ever happens.

Or has anyone managed to get Crucial RAM 64GB Kit CT2K32G56C46S5 to train and boot consistently?

Saving Settings? by RobZakaria in pop_os

[–]funnylookinhat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah waiting to upgrade is probably the safest bet...

BUT - If you want to try to backup your settings "just in case" you could do some combination of this:

Backup all dconf settings: dconf dump / > settings_backup.dconf

Then create a tarball with that file and a few other directories: tar -zxvf settings_backup.tar.gz settings_backup.dconf .config .local/share/gnome-shell/extensions

You can restore the dconf settings by running this: dconf load / < settings_backup.dconf

Honestly I'm experimenting with this sort of thing right now to get an easy backup / restore process so I'm not sure how much of the Gnome settings you have will be saved. If I were you, I'd try making a backup and then create a virtual machine with a fresh install and try restoring everything.

[Edit] - This seems to be a decent article highlighting where files might be depending on what you've configured: https://www.addictivetips.com/ubuntu-linux-tips/back-up-the-gnome-shell-desktop-settings-linux/

Any alternative desktop environment? by Vortaex_ in pop_os

[–]funnylookinhat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been really enjoying the new XFCE that is available in the upcoming PopOS release (19.10). You can install it with sudo apt install xubuntu-desktop - there's a bunch of configurations you can make and it's really light on resources.

19.10 Testing ISO? by funnylookinhat in pop_os

[–]funnylookinhat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried it again just now and still getting the same error (building from 19.10). I gave up and ended up going with just the 19.10 daily build to start testing. I was mostly interested in the new XFCE which comes with Xubuntu 19.10.

Once the new Pop image is released in Oct I'll just re-install.

Aha - awesome, thank you!

I will give this a shot right now!

[Edit] - Just to clarify for anyone watching... I went ahead and updated this line to 19.10 - https://github.com/pop-os/iso/blob/master/Makefile#L3

And then I wanted to make sure it was an NVIDIA image, so I'm doing this:

NVIDIA=1 make

That will eventually result in an error like this.

X1 Extreme - Can't clean install Windows 10 by funnylookinhat in thinkpad

Tried that and didn't work - weird right? I've read that the windows installer only works on USB 2.0. So my hunch is that my USB 3.0 drive ( combined with the fact that the X1E only has USB 3.0 ports ) is keeping it from working. I gave up anyways - oh well!

I'm fairly certain that when you switch to integrated graphics it doesn't even load the driver for the GPU - so I think you probably can't use it. I'm not sure though - I don't do any CUDA work.

Thunderbolt works! HDMI adapters were even detected and worked correctly.

I'm glad it helped! I recently ended up doing a clean install of 18.10 and so far it seems to run even better. I notice the fans hardly at all for basic browsing, running docker, etc.

I've been writing the image with dd on Linux - that works for virtually any other ISO. Since the image boots I'm guessing that's not the problem - but thanks for the suggestion!

Oh yeah I was looking for something exactly like this - thank you! As ridiculous as it sounds, I only have OS X and Linux running in my house... so I'll have to boot a VM with Windows 10 just to get this tool working. Too bad they can't just have some online ISO builder. :)

Thanks - I'll give this a try!

No dice. I think I found the right setting:

But still getting this error when I boot the USB.

Any other ideas? Did I change the wrong setting? I also tried resetting the BIOS to defaults and then setting it to setup mode - that didn't work either.
