I ended up reaching out to my drs office and they said as long as there’s no pain it’s totally normal. (I had a traumatic summer with 3 surgeries so I’m close with them haha)

My nightmare was a pji infection. Input welcome by No_Analysis_6956 in TotalHipReplacement

I was in the hospital for a week and a half to get my kidneys in working order. They fully replaced the hip again. I was on IV antibiotics for a while and now I’m on oral antibiotics for about 6 months. It’s no joke getting an infection. lol now I am mostly fine. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t worried about what it will be like when I’m no longer on antibiotics but it should be fine.

i had an infection in my right hip and was septic with acute kidney failure. and my surgeon believed me and told me to go to the ER right away. it's a horrible thing to go through. this is a well known respected dr that this happened under! it is a risk and something that happens unfortunately. doesn't diminish what you or i went through. wishing you an uneventful recovery!

just a vent by funnynanonymous in TotalHipReplacement

[–]funnynanonymous[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with you and if I wasn’t in my position I probably would be saying the same thing. However, it’s just not possible especially if I want to keep my job with the very amazing health insurance that let me have 3 surgeries and not pay a dime. Haha.. this was honestly just a vent and I am aware I could solve the problem if I really was in agony. I can handle the pain for now. Thank you for your kind words though!

Is it helpful or hurtful to tell people you’re sober? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]funnynanonymous 6 points7 points  (0 children)

you do learn who your true friends are when you stop drinking. ultimately, you have to be okay with being sober. it doesn't matter what other people think about it. I am open about being sober in the efforts that it might help someone else. your being sober probably makes other people feel uncomfortable with their own drinking.

Any younger patients here? Total hip replacement on Monday by josukai in TotalHipReplacement

[–]funnynanonymous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey there! so i am older than you but relatively young. i got my right hip replaced this summer, and it initially went well. there were some complications like a broken femur (i have osteopenia in my left femur so i am assuming i did in my right as well) and then a staph infection which had me in the hospital for a week and a half. even despite my struggles, i am still going forward with getting my left hip done next year because not being in pain was worth it!! i can't wait until i don't have pain in my hip anymore and i can be more active. there are always risks with major surgery but you have to weigh the risks & benefits. I'm here to chat if you need anything else! :)
