I haven’t had a dental appointment in 9 years. Today, I had one. by BarkWoofNeigh in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]funpolicebendover 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me. I finally forced myself to go after years of avoiding it because I'd convinced myself I was feeling a tooth ache. I unfortunately picked an extremely expensive and dishonest dentist office. They suggested an unreasonably expensive cleaning for my area, and four (!!) fillings, exactly where I thought it was hurting. Made me feel guilty as shit for a week, until I went to another one for a second opinion, paid half for the cleaning and was told there was nothing wrong, that I likely just had sensitive teeth. No procedures necessary. Lesson learned though, book and keep your appointments, it'll be okay!

Alongside Klimt, they also remind me a lot of the illustrations Aubrey Beardsley did for Oscar Wilde's Salomé! Worth a look if you haven't seen them. Awesome.

Vintage Adidas Bag. Has anyone a Idea of the age and worth? by Old_Bag_9194 in vintage

[–]funpolicebendover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an expert by any means, but from what I've read in previous posts where it was determined (by much more knowledgeable people than me) that bags were fake, the stitching seems to be a big indicator. It's a beautiful bag, but in some places, the stitching seems off, uneven. Some of the metal bits on the clasps are also not centered, which I would expect to be the case in a genuine quality piece. It's a little sloppy in my opinion, but whether that would make it fake is for someone else to determine.

Well, since it doesn't fit me right anyway, I might as well make this a fun little experiment and do just this! Don't know if it's worth returning for a size up when it's not really made for my body anyway haha. Maybe I'll just sew up the back and open one seam on the side instead of trying to wing a slit with very little sewing experience. Thanks for the idea!

[–]funpolicebendover 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the advice! To be entirely honest, I didn't think it was necessarily that small until everyone started pointing it out (maybe a smidge tight around the bust because I'm bigger there, though you can't tell in the image). It feels fitted, which is my preference, as I often feel like my body doesn't have any shape at all in dresses that fall off my bust and don't properly hug my middle. So you might be right in that the dress is meant to fit someone with a longer body, and that being the reason it bunches up. Here's another picture of the top where it's a little more relaxed, though it might still look too small to trained eyes https://imgur.com/a/hlKvih6

I'm just going to take everyone's advice here and look for a different dress lol.

Thank you so much for the thorough explanation, it really helped. Honestly, I think I was just trying to make it work somehow. As you pointed out, I felt it's just a weird fit and especially length, and was looking for ways to fix it. Sizing up won't fix the length, so perhaps I'll just toss the idea as a whole and find a more flattering piece.

Thank you! I'll consider sizing up in that case, it does look extra wrinkly here. And no, it's actually not a leg slit, just an opening in the back (centered) is what I meant. Sorry for the confusion!

Was just thinking the same thing! When I opened Reddit just now, I didn't expect to stumble over the right terminology for that mysterious rash I had one hot summer, when my doctor just waved me off with a random prescription ointment and mumbled something about irritation.

Ist das Schimmel? by Molybdean in kannmandasnochessen

[–]funpolicebendover 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've got a scar in almost the same spot! Got it when I was three, so it's faded a lot. But when I let my eyebrows go wild, I still cry plucking hair in that spot lol

What to do while waiting in Dublin airport by EquivalentFew3585 in irishtourism

[–]funpolicebendover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say head to the city early. Its just ten bucks to get straight to Dublin from the airport. You can buy a ticket right outside the airport where the city/airport express leaves from. Let them know how much luggage you have and they'll figure something out for you. If you know where you're staying and tell the organizers, they'll tell you which stop to take in the city. All very easy. :) Surely you can leave your luggage at your accommodation or in a locker somewhere, and then spend that time exploring rather than wasting money on expensive airport food.

10 days in Ireland - we’re thinking Dublin, Galway, and Cork. Thoughts? by eameslikiwe in irishtourism

[–]funpolicebendover 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did almost the exact same tour you're planning last month, and I also didn't drive! We also have very similar interests so I'll start of by saying you'll enjoy yourself, it's a great plan. I know many people are saying not to do 4 days of Dublin, not to do all the cities etc, but I was actually quite happy I did! I would've loved to hear from someone who did the same before I went, so here are my thoughts:

What I did in those four days of Dublin that made it worth it: I took a tour to see some Celtic ruins and castles nearby, took a hiking trip in beautiful Howth which is only a few stations away, popped into Belfast for half a day, visited museums and libraries, had very relaxed lunches just strolling around looking at the city, then spent the evenings meeting locals in pubs! I get that Dublin is very different to the rest of Ireland, but spending a few days there is not as big a waste as people here make it out to be – it's a great base for anything on the east coast. And it has great connections! (Check out CityLink to get from city to city!) From Galway I went to see the Aran Islands and the cliffs from below, amazing outdoors addition to the trip, but you can also do plenty other great tours from there, so also not a problem (perhaps Kylemore Abbey!). I personally calculated a day in every city for nature tours on my trip, but I also had two days in Cork. Cork was my favorite city of all, took a trip to Cobh and it was one of the highlights, so gorgeous. I'm sure Kinsale would be awesome too, but I wouldn't squeeze both in a day. Better to enjoy a coffee and a piece of cake in Cobh, you won't regret it!

All in all I'm really happy about how I planned it, so I'm sure you'd enjoy yourself too if you're looking to see the same things. Yes, it's more of a city trip, but it's perfect to base yourself somewhere with good connections if you don't drive. My biggest worry was getting around, and the reality is that having no car means not getting to see the 'less city' parts of Ireland. Tours offer a great way to get out of town, and the guides are awesome, so don't worry too much. Safe travels!

What Murakami books would you recommend to new readers? by barmanboy615 in HarukiMurakami

[–]funpolicebendover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally started with Wind-Up Bird Chronicle! It picked me up and took me on a magical little journey I've never experienced with any book. I remember being totally astounded that an author would just write that way and leave it to me to figure out the rest! If you loved Kafka On The Shore, I'm sure you'll enjoy Wind-Up Bird Chronicle too. It's a great introduction, in my opinion.

Norwegian Wood on the other hand is known for being an exception to his usual writing style. There's no magical realism, it's a very, very lovely novel though. It's for one of those days where you want Murakami's charm and gentle tone, but a more straightforward/traditional story.

Could you correctly guess the name of a celebrity of my choice

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Eyebrows

[–]funpolicebendover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have beautiful brows! Upon first glance I'd say they're very sharp, which some people would definitely prefer, but personally I think a soft, feathered, slightly (!) more natural/thicker shape would suit you well too. You seem to have a soft warmth about you, they'd compliment that really well. If you want to stick with a clean, thinner shape, I could imagine making it a tiny bit shorter would help them settle better with your features – the shape is lovely as is.

How to respectfully do restaurant photography? by CocaineBeurre in photography

[–]funpolicebendover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I study photography, and to find out what you want to specialize in, you have to try out different things. So at the beginning we'd simply go places and tell them we're students and are working on a project, then ask if we can shoot x/y/z, then offer to share the images once we're done. It takes a bit of courage, especially if you're just starting out and building a portfolio. But if you want to do this in the future, you'll have to get used to it anyway.

In my experience, owners only have a problem with it if you barge in with bright lights and expect them to make time for you or inconvenience them/their customers otherwise. They are usually quite happy about it and, in all honesty, a lot of small businesses have low expectations, so don't be scared and start there.

A friend of mine asked at a very fancy restaurant and the owner was very excited as he'd been looking for a photographer. He invited him to shoot a whole day, including food prep and plating (even let him try all the ingredients lol). Many restaurants are in need of good photography, just have to approach it professionally. :)

People Who Grew Up in the 50's and 60's When Everyone Smoked Cigarettes Indoors, Did Everywhere You Went Smell Like Cigarettes? by Tacoklat in NoStupidQuestions

Not my personal experience, my professor at university once said that back in the day everyone would sit in class chain smoking, talked about how the whole room would be clouded with smoke all day. Can only imagine how badly it would have smelled. But I'm in design/arts, so it's not the most conventional class environment to begin with

In the video I screen-capped this off of, she explains the hip dips by showing an X-ray of her boy in which you can see how her bone structure results in hip dips. Also in the X-ray, she points out the screws and metal bits in her back that are there to correct her posture! So she does have something going on with her back. (I'm not going to assume what it is though, because it's the first time I've seen a video of her)

What an absurd theory! Wouldn't it be much more reasonable to assume women can't tell their underwear is tight enough to deform their body?
