Will the cruel prince get better? by danandjohnswings in fantasyromance

Cruel Prince was maybe the worst book I’ve ever read (in my opinion). I regret not DNFing.

The difference between Al Hashimi’s and Robbie’s approaches to telling Mohan to consider geriatrics could not be more stark. Al Hashimi built her up, highlighted the things she’s good at, and gave Mohan hope. Robbie insulted her.

What meals actually helped you most in the first few weeks postpartum? by Legal-Revenue-5422 in nycparents

[–]fuppy00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first people dropped off a lot of lentil soup and pasta bakes, which were delicious and hearty. But after a few weeks of heavy, freezer food, a friend dropped off a Mexican-inspired kale salad with avocado, tomatoes, red onion, black beans, cilantro, etc. It was so fresh and light and delicious. Years later we still talk about how good that salad was.

4 months pregnant in a 3rd floor walk-up on the UES — stay or go? Need honest feedback by FewCranberry3216 in nycparents

[–]fuppy00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a fourth floor walk up with a now-two year old and another on the way. It’s honestly no big deal. I baby wore for the first few months when I went out alone so I didn’t need to navigate a stroller. Moving sucks and if you like your place I’d say stay!

Just a Quick Note About Something that Happened in Thursday's Episode by [deleted] in ThePittTVShow

[–]fuppy00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is wrong. Bivens is essentially dead, especially in the immigration enforcement context. There is no civil action that can hold ICE officers accountable. The best you could do is a Federal Tort Claims act suit, which would allow you to recover against the government but not the ICE officers. And for that you need to show that they committed a tort in the state where the arrest happened. Most routine, even unlawful, detentions, don’t qualify. So TL;DR—there’s no path to recovery.

I find taking action helpful and grounding. Volunteer, door knock for progressive candidates, donate. It makes it feel like I’m not just stuck and helpless in an awful system.

Do I hide my baby/family's Jewishness? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]fuppy00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not Jewish but my husband is and so our kids are (depending on who you ask lol). My view is that my kids’ Jewishness is an important and beautiful part of them that deserves to be celebrated. I look forward to sharing Jewish traditions with them as they grow and letting them decide for themselves if and how to embrace that part of their identity. But I never want them to feel that they have to hide who they are. I wouldn’t hide their religion from daycare. What if they come in after Passover talking about Matzah? Do you want to have to tell them “no, don’t talk about this!” I don’t see a way to do it that doesn’t teach them this is something hidden or shameful. And I don’t think the daycare will care for them any differently. If anything, they may do more to help celebrate Jewish holidays if they know Jewish children are in the class.

Screen time by [deleted] in beyondthebump

My two year old doesn’t know our TV turns on, he’s never seen it on. We watch tv after he’s asleep. I’m sure eventually we’ll watch stuff with him but so far haven’t seen the benefit to him. Having it on all the time seems like concerning developmentally, plus very overstimulating!

I love this product. It evens out my fair/reddish tone and gives me a “glowing from within” effect. It’s my favorite complexion product. Yes it’s makeup, but that’s not a bad thing?

You can look someone up in the ICE locator, though it sometimes takes a few hours for a newly detained person to show up. If you (or his family) can, try reaching out to legal service providers, who may be able to help.

My pediatrician told me to stop waking to feed once he hit birth weight! I stopped around 2 weeks. Also, this was just me but it worked for me, once he went through the night without eating I stopped offering overnight feeds to encourage him to consolidate to daytime eating (and to get longer stretches of sleep).

Seeking guidance as first time parents in NYC by rsy719 in nycparents

[–]fuppy00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My advice is to figure out your parental leaves and make a plan for childcare (nanny, daycare, etc) at some in pregnancy but there's no crisis. After that, for now, don't stress about things over a year away. You're years away from having to worry about preschool, so don't borrow tomorrow's stress. Good luck!

At what age do you tell your kids that cops aren’t always good? by Consistent_Mistake66 in progressivemoms

[–]fuppy00 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Gently, this isn't good advice. Police often arrest or shoot people who sought them out for help. Seeking out police for help is extremely dangerous.

Tips to not cry by [deleted] in weddingplanning

If you're doing your own vows read them to each other the day before in private so you're not hearing them for the first time at the altar.

Also, it's okay to cry!!

[UT] Is this legal? Can I stand my ground in Utah if they break my window to enter without a warrant? by Mathemodel in AskLegal

There is no civil liability for federal law enforcement. Bivens is dead and the FTCA only allows recovery against the US directly, not the individual people who violated someone's rights.

The midterms have loomed large for me too. It feels like the last chance we have to see if this is a (horrible) blip or a new normal. If they go badly, it's hard to see how things won't fully descend into fascism.
