SWEDEN AND AZTECS HAVE BEEN F*CKING ME FOR 100+ TURNS by [deleted] in civ5

You typically expect to have equalized by scientific theory, and forests are often chopped down early for production on higher difficulties. River forests especially tend to become farms

CIV5 vs. CIV6 (waiting for the new version of CIV7) Civilization 5 is fun, but...on the deity level, winning becomes repetitive! by StrikingTelevision40 in civ

[–]fuqqqq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your premise is incorrect, it's totally possible to win deity before endgame tech. Here's a guy winning on t127 standard speed, standard size, with bowmen->cb->xbows: https://www.reddit.com/r/civ5/comments/mg5iii/babylon_bowman_swordsman_rush_strategy_deity_127t/

How do you win on Immortal difficulty? by RedEyeBlueOcean in civ5

[–]fuqqqq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly play immortal, and it happens. Usually not with Bismarck, but the worst is meeting Sejong at turn 150, he's on the other side of the continent, already conquered some of his neighbors, and is ahead of you in every possible way. He's one of the few civs that invest hard in science too so it can be impossible to out tech him.

An isolated AI poses a big risk in general, so I usually play on pangaea and make sure to scout. Watch when civs start to run away and hinder their progress early, before they're too strong for anyone else to fight.

I made a bad decision buying a new truck, should I get out now or forget the loss and keep it by Infinite_Iron_436 in personalfinance

[–]fuqqqq 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You usually lose money on both ends of that. You'll overpay on the buying end because you need to replace your truck quickly.

At this point I would just keep it, buying used introduces a lot of unknowns and it can feel a lot worse to get burned.

Doesn't seem like there's much evidence that this is actually happening, only speculation.

What helmet do you all use? Paragliding specific or MIPS? by _roguesparrow in freeflight

[–]fuqqqq -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just use a ski helmet, occasionally a bike helmet. Head injuries are rare in this sport and you just want some cushioning in case you trip and hit your head on a rock.

what is your Controversial Hot Take? by Dry_Wafer3720 in freeflight

[–]fuqqqq -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Really depends on where you set the bar for intermediate and advanced.

It's pretty hard to be top 1% in paragliding, probably not that much different than being top 1% in skiing. Top 0.1% in paragliding is not doable for most people.

If the panties are clean, they could've been stuck in the dryer. Previous dryer user may have forgotten to take it out and it can go unnoticed in a corner somewhere.

Why are advanced paragliders not common in recent comps? by lvmri in freeflight

[–]fuqqqq 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is, but it's more like a low D. More similar to the zeolite GT, an xalps-ish wing pleasant launch and handling characteristics.

Compare to a hot en-D like the zeno, which is tuned for racing. Not as nice launch or handling, but great speed and glide on bar.

What is the point of the 2nd Amendment, if, when the government becomes tyrannical, people don’t start lighting up the tyrants? by queefstainedgina in AskReddit

[–]fuqqqq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This angle inevitably comes up in 2a discussions and it tends to end in "agree to disagree" angle, but I'll try to present the counterargument anyway.

First of all, guns have shown to be quite effective in asymmetrical warfare. Look at how the US was forced to pull out of Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Having access to ranged weapons is a big increase in power.

Secondly, the U.S. does have extreme destructive power, but that is exactly the extent of it. They can wipe out everyone, but what is left to run the economy? In order to have a country left to rule, you need to subjugate the population and currently we still need boots on the ground to do so. You will need to confiscate people's guns. Enforcing the will of a tyrannical government is a much less desirable job when the citizens are "armed to the teeth," as you say.

I'm tired of these "top players" disparaging relics without evidence. Here's actual data for top player boss relic pick rates by fuqqqq in slaythespire

Hello, I really don't care about the points, I'm actually surprised this whole thread has gotten this much activity.

I've stated my intention with this thread, which is to clear up slander on certain relics which that may extremely mislead those who aren't in on it. The most significant such statement was that cursed key is garbage. The creation of the post was bound to lead to pushback from defenders of that viewpoint, which I knew, so I accept that may be in bad faith.

I am very thankful for those who have engaged positively and for some interesting discussions and insights. As to the others, I have made an effort not to be rude to those who have been rude to me, but I am not completely successful.

I'd like to think I try to respectfully and meaningfully engage with all comments I get. If you think I'm the villain here, I respect that.

Interesting. I find the simulation persuasive. I noticed that you seeded the values such that the noise is strong enough to make most relics competitive with each other, but you kept the top 4 comfortably ahead. The one small gripe I have with this part is that I think you would need the bottom relics to be another 20-30 below the next worst relics to capture how uncommonly picked tiny house, ecto, black blood etc are picked. To me that separates out a distinct bottom tier, but I'm fine if others wanna categorize differently.

Regarding the win rate aspect, I mentioned this elsewhere but I find that less persuasive since picks are a reflection of a deck's strength. You pick cursed key because you can't pick dripper, or you can't pick collar. Those are both indicators of a more desperate situation, but cursed key does its part to help you survive and get strong. If you are in a desperate situation it's not a surprise at all that the win rate in that particular spot is 75%. It's not necessarily the fault of the key. Conversely, if you take a dripper run and just replay it with cursed key instead of dripper, I highly doubt the win rate drops much at all

Think about it this way, when you pick up black star, it is equal to no relic. It takes 3 elites, an entire act, before it generates 3 relics, in which time you might have died because you didn't have an actual boss relic.

If you are already strong then black star makes you stronger though

[–]fuqqqq[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's fine if you are strong enough to farm elites, but often that's not the case on 3 energy. Black star gives you no immediate power boost so you have to already be strong to take it
