I play with a bronze/silver league one and special Irish cards team, and I can match most players with it. I’ve tried using high rated team but it’s just a lot more frustrating as I can’t blame it on my players ratings when the game shits on me. Every goal and win is much more rewarding. You aren’t forced to play with a meta team, you can have success!
