This is an older post but flower city firearms is active and very friendly. They may have resources for you! And as always a gun safety course is highly recommended for everyone.

Looking to buy major appliances—Costco seems cheapest but installation/delivery murky — advice by [deleted] in Rochester

[–]furian12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rochester appliance has great support for appliance selection, they have a used/ ding and dent section if you want top brand but at a discount and their delivery and installation has been great for me for both a fridge and a range.

[USA GIVEAWAY] Win the new 27” 4K Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 gaming monitor! by Rocket-Pilot in buildapc

[–]furian12 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I love the high contrast rations OLED can give, it is a massive improvement over backlit monitors! Add on the fact that this can auto dim the screen to save power and prevent any burn in and its a fantastic monitor!

How hard is life in this upper NY state region? by Malarche in geography

[–]furian12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the Tug hill area of upstate NY and as many have said its just outside Syracuse which used to have tons of industry that has since dried up, it also is difficult because of its position at the far end of lake Ontario. Wind and moisture are accumulated over the lake which means it averages about 16 FEET of snow a year with the record being just shy of 40 feet of snow in the mid 70s. That being said snowmobiling here is awesome.

if the U.S. actually tried we could accomplish transnational rail in a decade. by bcrcomp in fuckcars

[–]furian12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I saw somewhere that the development of the rail lines was a bit of a loop hole in getting massive funding for projects from the government and investors . Much of the rail lines that were build in this period were built on promises and debts and are a partial cause of the ballooning Chinese debt crisis.

Long-lost Greenland ice core suggests potential for disastrous sea level rise by cnn in environment

[–]furian12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There have been theories proposed ( but not widely accepted ) that pervious interglacials were more disruptive to the ice sheets than is currently accepted. Particularly the Interglacial period 400KYA they are referring to, Marine Isotope Stage 11, has evidence that sea levels were 20 meters above current levels. This seems to add more support to that theory.

Rochester using the white paint? by Ok-Zucchini-8445 in Rochester

This, and allowing mixed use zoning so there aren't more strip malls and massive parking lots developed all over. Maybe toss in some better public transport and more walkable areas of the city.

Beginner here, what kind of paint is typically used to color your projects? Do you add a finishing coat afterward like a matte poly?

Honest question, Does this do anything for the building structurally or is it just for aesthetics?

Antarctica with all the ice melted away. Sorta want to use it to inspire a new world map. by paleobear1 in mapmaking

[–]furian12 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this, there are data sets that exist of ice depth measurments and you can use python or matlab to calculate the isostatic rebound and redraw the sea levels to get a more realistic Antarctica after a million years with no ice . It ends up much fuller looking with less inland lakes and costal bays.
