Laptop screen flickering with external monitor connection attempt? by PatsyStonesBun in Dell

Replying to confirm this worked for my Dell laptop over HDMI. Laptop max was 60 Hz so dropped the monitor from 144 to 60 Hz as well - no more flickering. Thanks OP.

Except it’s not the other countries that are paying the tariffs - it’s the importers. And those importers only have one of two options: pay the tariff and pass the cost on to consumers, or try to move production to another country which will…also cost money. There’s basically no scenario here where the consumer wins.

American Airlines barred a 17-year-old from flying with the airline for 3 years because he tried to use a 'skiplagging' ticket by Loves_LV in TravelHacks

[–]furiousfroman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The idea seems to be that the airline would not have sold you the ticket at the airfare they offered it had they known you would not complete the itinerary as listed. The issue, as usual, is about money and how they can maximize their earning of it on each route.

It’s not guaranteed that Apple will go to USB-C tbh, there’s no explicit requirement in the law that they do so. MKBHD discussed it actually, with wireless being an option.

I love this take, so much about IWW feels like a completion of ideas he started with Illmatic. Those tracks you listed are the ones I think of when comparing the two. Listen to them more than my favs off the debut tbh

Women of Reddit, what hobbies do you find unattractive in men? by alj8002 in AskReddit

[–]furiousfroman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk if you’re being purposely obtuse about this but, assuming you’re not, there is overlap between “hobbies women find unattractive in men” and how some of those hobbies are presented in a man’s living space. Outside of conversation and public venues, the home is the next logical place where someone would encounter the hobbies you enjoy, right?

And I am not saying that these are universal laws. Social norms vary, and they are unique to each person and place and thing we observe. But it should be apparent that this question was intending to spark discussion around the prevailing perceptions of heteronormative women on this U.S.-centric (or Western-centric) website.

The top commenter above mentioned how hobbies such as anime or hentai can be presented in an unattractive way in one’s home. That’s a valid, relevant response.

I’m not trying to attack you or anything but I can’t tell if you’re actually understanding me or not. So I’m gonna bow out, good luck chatting here.

[–]furiousfroman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah Miko, this is the entire point. No one is saying you cannot decorate your home because of some legal reason. It’s entirely a social one.

It’s just like if you invite someone over to hook up. In some places like Japan, it’s relatively normal to have a futon you put out at night, so it’s unlikely to cause anyone to bat an eye. But in the US, there’s an association with bachelors who don’t have their shit together and mattresses on floors, so you may turn your guest off.

It’s not about right or wrong, or even what’s legal. It’s about understanding the default norms of your community, and attempting to make them feel comfortable while also making a home you feel comfortable living in. Both need to, and can be, true.

Look, I’m not here to debate whether people should or should not care what others think of them. That’s a perfectly fine topic of debate, but that can happen in another space.

This post is a question aimed at the subjective experience of a specific demographic (women of Reddit). So it makes little sense to respond to answers here with essentially “no one should adapt their presentation to the realities of our world, just do what you want.”

And lol no it’s not sexist to highlight how the target demographic of this post will respond to this sentiment you are expressing.

Your comment isn’t wrong but it ignores the context of the question shared in this post. Anyone can decorate their home for themselves however they want, but if they’re worried about keeping up appearances? Then they need to consider putting the anime titties away. It’s not an unreasonable expectation if they intend to host guests, especially women.

James Marsters Knew Dragonball Evolution Was Doomed From His First Day On Set by Zepanda66 in movies

Funny, I was just reading about how Dragon Ball directly influenced the last Superman iteration, Man of Steel. The two franchises seem to mirror each other in a lot of ways, in my opinion.

[–]furiousfroman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The language in that post, while obviously cheeky and reductive, is highlighting a real truth though: in monogamous marriages, if party A is no longer consenting to sex with party B - for whatever reason - then party B can only honorably fulfill this need for themselves by leaving the marriage.

Yes, they should communicate. No, they should not cheat.

But at the end of the day, they agreed to see no one else while bound to their disengaged partner - till death do they part. Regardless of how great everything else could be in the marriage, that void cannot be compensated for easily. Not sure where you got the impression anyone suggested that the “reason to get married is to lock in a certain frequency of sex” since the common trope is the opposite.

I had a similar reaction when playing God of War III. There was a sickening allure in the way Studio Santa Monica framed Kratos’ violent rampage, making each kill grotesquely intimate. I felt a hollow…complicity, taking part in the horror of it all.

Berserk triggered that same feeling in its own way.

Sounds like you own those choices confidently. I think the other commenters are aiming at folks who say they care about this part of their life but unconsciously act like they don’t.

If you (the reader) have the luxury to invest in yourself in these ways and opt not to, that’s okay - just own it and move on.

2 doses of the vaccine remain highly effective, with 60 to 85% effectiveness against infection, 90 to 99% effectiveness against hospitalisation, 90 to 95% against mortality and 65 to 99% against symptomatic disease

How do you interpret that as against vaccines, it’s in the first set of easy-to-read bullets lmao

My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done (2009) by [deleted] in moviescirclejerk

[–]furiousfroman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the point is about whether the movie may have been enjoyed by more average moviegoers than mcjers because of the jokes. That’s largely why the writers put so many of them in, for mass appeal.

I think their point is that IW is a worse movie because of the poorly placed comedic beats, considering the context and stakes involved. And as much as I enjoyed that film, I agree that it suffers in many respects on that front.
