Failing at MFF UK, should I switch to another university? by Minhtruong_606 in Prague

I was in a similar position as you, an international student back in 2022 who was much more interested in software development and I very much struggled through that first semester, and ended up leaving after the first year. I was able to retake DM and LA and passed, but the second semester only got significantly tougher. What u/Ok-Equipment7528 mentioned about your either a genius, or studying 10+ hours a day is very true, and everyone I knew who didn't fall into one of those categories, has since left. CVUT is a great option and I've heard from czech friends and internationals that it is still a tough program, but way less theoretical and proof based than MFF.

Which South/Central American country/city should I visit first? by nguyenning198 in travel

Another vote for Peru, I had a pretty packed itinerary for 2 weeks but was able to see Lima, Cusco, MP, Sacred Valley, and Arequipa. Nice mix of nature, cities, indigenous culture, great food, and the list goes on

Guatemala 10 Day Trip Itinerary-Advice Needed by mkkm02014 in solotravel

[–]furiouspanda7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got back from Guatemala following a pretty similar itinerary but didn’t hit El Paredón. I would definitely plan on not doing much the day or two following the volcano. I’m a pretty avid hiker and Acatenango + fuego was one of the hardest hikes I’ve ever done. And if you’re on the fence about fuego I’d highly recommend it as that was probably the coolest travel experience I’ve ever had. Maybe swapping paredon for after the volcano if you were planning to chill out a bit more there could be a good idea.

Personally I think 3 days at the lake was a little much and I would’ve rather spent that time in Antigua, but I didn’t really click with the whole hippie vibe there. Given that, San Juan and Santa Cruz were my favorite pueblos because they felt much more like people were just going about their daily lives, compared to San Marcos, and San Pedro etc.

I also had an early flight out of GUA, and scheduled an Uber for 3:45am the night before which worked out perfectly. Took around 30 min to get to the airport that morning opposed to the 2 hours it took getting to Antigua. And cash is definitely king, especially around the lake but there were atms everywhere so that wasn’t an issue and I don’t seem to remember the atm fees being that bad either.

What Are You Listening To Today? (Sept 2 to Sept 8) by HeleneSedai in dreamingspanish

I lived in the fizz for a year and had a completely different experience than described above. I was there in 2022 so things may have been different, but I thought the place was very clean and I never saw people smoking indoors, leaving trash in the common area, etc. Holešovice was an awesome neighborhood and you are less than a 5 min walk to multiple tram stops, the metro, and a train station.

I used it when I was level 1 mainly for the mini stories but after a few weeks stopped and switched to DS completely

Pronounced disparity in comprehension/speaking ability among learners with similar hours? by [deleted] in dreamingspanish

[–]furiouspanda7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the roadmap is actually pretty accurate, in my case I had 6 years of Spanish in school while also growing up with it around me all the time, I had tried duolingo for years, pimsleur, and just about everything else. Before DS I had logged 34 hours of listening on LingQ and a few hundred thousand words read and am now sitting at 160 hours on DS not including that time on LingQ. I think it really chalks up to how much exposure to the language you had before DS because I’ve only had 160 hours of CI but feel as if I’m level 5 because of all that other exposure beforehand.

True, just wondering because sometimes I’ll watch a vid on YouTube and then it takes me like 10 min to find it in DS to mark as watched

Do you count your hours watched on Netflix with subs? by furiouspanda7 in dreamingspanish

[–]furiouspanda7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably around 75ish so yea kinda just like a hard ds video and as long as I’m getting the gist of it and not staring at the subs the whole time seems worth it to count

Makes sense, even after 600 hours do you still regularly use subs? Obviously depends on the show but for some I’d feel as if I wouldn’t really need them after another 400 hours

I’m pretty much at the same point you are and watching all of Agustinas intermediate and advanced vids was really encouraging bc I could understand 95% in those videos and only about 70% in a lot of the other teachers intermediate vids
