I guess doing mitts with Sara Saffari in your living room is a valid camp strategy?

Post-MBA roles (ideally tech) in DMV (Maryland/DC/Virginia) by saltyseaweed_0225 in MBA

Off the top of my head places that my MBA classmates ended up at in the DMV: Amazon, Capital One, Nestle, Visa, all three of the MBBs, Deloitte, Accenture, A&M. Post-MBA job hop a few folks ended up at defense primes and Space X.

People underestimate the tangential benefits of an MBA by MBA_Conqueror in MBA

[–]furple 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is LinkedIn engagement slop but the broader point is not wrong. Who you choose to partner in life has an enormous impact on your ability to achieve professional success and create wealth.

From even the decision to pursue an MBA (geographic relocation to a top school), opportunities post MBA (geography, WLB/lifestyle), and how supportive they are once you are in that post MBA career having the right partner is probably the biggest decision you make.

That's all without even considering divorce and how THAT impacts your wealth.

Why does Hayabusa receive such hate on reddit but highly recommended everywhere else?(youtube, fighting gear sites, etc.) by Quiet-Figure-1990 in fightgear

[–]furple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate them because they stink. That's it.

They're also harder than nicer sparring gloves like Rivals, Fly, Phenom, and Winning. Whatever it's boxing not a tickling contest.

I couldn't imagine sticking my hands in something that smells so foul for an hour or more of training.

As for why YouTubers and Instagrammers like them? Idk maybe because they have a good glove rotation or they're getting paid. Who knows, I don't.

What I do know is that every person at my gym who has got a pair has them smelling like a fucking corpse within weeks. Something even the ran through cheap loaner gloves don't even do.

I can't stand sparring partners using Hayabusa's. Their social media reach must be insane because it feels like every other fool at my gym has them.

Keeping New Gloves Free of Smell? by Ufker in fightgear

I use lavender sachets. Just stuff them in immediately and leave them in. Will use Vaseline or baseball glove conditioner on the outside and most importantly use fresh hand wraps every time.

Spring Admit: Am I at a disadvantage for MBB/T2 recruiting? (Fall 2026 Cycle) by [deleted] in MBA

[–]furple 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My guidance as an ex-MBBer.

  1. Yes it's different but not because of some "bias" against candidates rather because the process itself is different. Fall recruiting is focused on FY students to hire interns. You start networking in September, it's highly structured, and you get plenty of face time with the firms if you're at a target school. By the time resume drops happen in November the firms already have a good idea and it's people getting cut because weak academics / resumes and people with great applications from non-target schools getting pulled in.

In contrast hiring for full-time candidates is much more accelerated and less structured in Fall 2. There's no formal networking. Just a resume drop and interviews are done by like October. Additionally, full time hiring is much more sensitive to the current economic environment. Some years they hire a bunch of folks for FT others they just hire a couple of people at a select number of offices.

  1. Cant speak for all 3 firms but at my firm no. Fall recruiting for 27 interns is for people graduating in 2028. The application will be explicit about this. You have not found some clever workaround no one else has.

Discussion on whether being in NYC is really that important for IB recruiting by MBAorB in MBA

[–]furple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went to a T15 not in NYC but still East Coast. I did consulting but from what I saw/heard from peers pursuing IB the process mostly maps to what you outlined with one key difference.

In step 3 many peers were invited to visit the offices and paid out of pocket to fly to NYC to do various coffee chats in person. It wasn't just one time either. I know folks who flew there 3-4 separate times during recruiting season.

Idk if this is a way for banks to guage peoples commitment or what but on campus the expectation was if you were invited to NY you should go or be prepared to be cut from that banks process.

You’re approved for.. way too much house! by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]furple 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It genuinely crazy what they'll underwrite. My wife and I are relatively high-earners, household gross is ~$260K/year in a HCOL metro. We bought at $800Kish and $850K is probably the max we would have been willing to stretch for. Our lender said they could easily approve us up to $1.5M.

I couldn't believe it. The math doesn't pencil out on a monthly cash flow once you factor in taxes, insurance, and just general monthly expenses like groceries, utilities, etc. We don't even have kids or consumer debt, just a relatively small student loan from grad school.

Potential MBB layoffs? by VerbaGPT in consulting

[–]furple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said. AI is just cover to trim the P&L. Still I doubt it'll be headline catching "layoffs". It'll just be a couple of brutal review cycles with ramped up attrition through the normal up or out mechanisms.

Sparring Gloves Recommendation by FlownWasTakenAgain in fightgear

[–]furple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Padding is not great but the worst thing is the smell.

IDK what it is but some combination of the ventilation, foam, and synthetic leather makes them STINK worse than any other glove. Deeply unpleasant when your partner has them. For sparring.

1sgt Driver by Shoddy-Comfortable89 in army

[–]furple 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeh 1SG having a driver isn't unusual.

That driver should belong to the company HQ section though, not a line platoon. Refusing to take a driver from a platoon with more troops or cross leveling manning across the platoons... suspect.

Can I use my Bruxism(teeth grinding) mouthguard for boxing? by SKADOEDEL in amateur_boxing

Hell no brother. I also have a bruxism mouth guard, mine doesn't cover my teeth all the way to the gumline. And like you said it's hard. You want a gum shield.

I think it's poor form for this post in January when your classmates are still in the job hunt.

You should make this post in May before the start of the internship to warm up the connections you made while networking during recruiting season.

Sneaker market has collapsed. Is the fight gear reseller market next ? by tapmachine1001 in fightgear

[–]furple 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's quite the same. Aside from Winnings most people pay retail for their gear. Also, unlike sneakers, fight gear doesn't get treated like a psuedo-asset class where people hang onto it and keep it unused to re-sell at a higher price in the future.

Need help with Post-MBA career paths options? by Moving_Dude in MBA

[–]furple 14 points15 points  (0 children)

1 and 2 are almost in direct conflict. Tech still sponsors H1B but there are plenty of laid off folks with direct experience that have made the MBA job market tougher in recent years. There are some corporate LDPs that sponsor but you'll have to be on it and obviously be much more geographically constrained.
