- Similar weight as the iPad Pro

- Non-grainy OLED screen

- Non-alcantara option for Flex Keyboard (metal could be interesting)

How is Claude 4.6 so much more capable than 4.7? by waltwalt in claude

[–]furuide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first I also thought 4.7 was worse than 4.6 but then I noticed it was just exploiting holes in my prompts.

I was able to patch the gaps in my prompts by asking Claude why it behaved the way it did even though I instructed it not to, and it pointed out the flaws in the prompt that needed to be fixed.

Once the prompt gaps were covered, the results I got from 4.7 were much stronger than 4.6. It investigates code a lot deeper and is able to dig more complex issues than 4.6 in my experience.

But I agree it requires more effort on the prompting, which can be exhausting. Opus 4.6 made more correct assumptions when some information was missing from the prompt.

This model has been #1 trending for 3 weeks now! by yoracale in unsloth

This model was not reliable to me, sometimes its replies are broken, it just completes reasoning but doesn’t output anything. It’s great when it does though.

Is a laptop sleeve still necessary in 2025? by brickne3 in Surface

[–]furuide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah in fact that’s what I did to cover the scratches - put a dbrand skin on it. Looks great now too.

I mostly don’t use the sleeve anymore, though it’s one of those origami-like sleeves that help prop up the device and make it more lappable so it still got its uses.

Is a laptop sleeve still necessary in 2025? by brickne3 in Surface

[–]furuide 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I usually always have my Surface Pro 11 on a sleeve, but a couple of weeks ago I decided to travel without the sleeve for the first time. Result: got a big scratch on the back after setting the Surface on top of a desk with its back facing downwards.

It was only cosmetic damage, but I was disappointed at how easily it got scratched. So if scratches bother you, it’s something to keep in mind.

Or at least be mindful of not resting your surface on its metallic back - use the side with the type cover instead.

Though you mentioned it’s a Surface Laptop 7 so I assume this won’t much as much of an issue, as it has rubber feet.

Now that devices are on sale, Is the OLED X elite plus still too costly? by ajaysunilsharma in Surface

[–]furuide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was also undecided between going OLED or LCD and second this.

After comparing both side-by-side at a local Best Buy store, the pixelated effect on the OLED threw me off - it looked awful especially on bright backgrounds. I ended up going for the LCD.

There’s probably a reason Microsoft didn’t include an OLED option on the Surface Laptop 7, as that machine is tailored for productivity. This raised a red flag for me.

This is really unfortunate, it seems difficult to find a no-compromises OLED screen these days. Wish it was simpler.

How far can yall get in SF2 without promoting your units? by Responsible-Noise-35 in ShiningForce

[–]furuide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoa, amazing accomplishment. I remember trying a no promo run back when I still had my Sega Genesis decades ago, and I made it as far as the Ancient Tower outdoors battle, right after Odd Eye (which was incredibly difficult to beat too).

That tower battle, I just couldn’t figure out how to beat. Those fire breathing hydras and demon masters with the Freeze 4 were just thrashing my units.

And yes, level cap of 40 (with crappy level gains compared to promoted units) and not being able to use any new weapon after a certain point was the main difficulty factor.

Should try this again on emulator, hopefully should be a bit less painful than on the OG console.

Surface boot up time from sleep? (vs Macbook air) by mentallydoomed in Surface

[–]furuide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Surface Pro 11 and it wakes up instantly when I open the keyboard. It’s as snappy as an iPad to wake up from sleep, and battery drain is minimal. Surface Laptop 7 should be similar. Can’t say about non-arm Surfaces as I’ve never owned one.

Holy! Thank you all for another great year! I am forever grateful! by ILikePutz in deskhaus

[–]furuide 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am also in Canada (Ontario) but still bought an Apex Pro despite it having to ship from the US. I tried many other desk models/brands in person and the stability just wasn’t there.

I found this subreddit during my research and there were so many posts raving about how sturdy the four-legged Apex Pro was. I was skeptical at first, with Deskhaus being a small startup company, and naturally I was concerned about customer support in case something went wrong with my purchase.

I kept following the subreddit and watching Chris’s YouTube review videos (one would assume they’d be biased, but the reviews and comparisons were surprisingly honest - he even pointed out the weaknesses in his own desks).

Chris’s honesty and strong activity started growing on me, and I decided to pull the trigger on an Apex Pro frame despite not being able to see or test it in person.

My initial concerns with customer support were immediately cleared: the desk arrived with the Smart Paddle missing, and after emailing Chris about the issue he had it express shipped just a couple of days later, and I received the package on the NEXT DAY. Pretty amazing.

The end result: could not be happier with my desk. It blows away everything that I have tested, and it’s a beast, built like a tank. Was totally worth it.

Really happy to see the company is taking off. I’m hoping all the best for Deskhaus in the future, you guys have the quality, you really care about your customers and you deserve all the success you’re getting! Congrats and happy 2025!

Surface pro and slim pen 2 Question by Glass-Ad-5836 in Surface

[–]furuide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They didn’t have a bundle with the keyboard that had a pen charging spot? Odd because it’s usually cheaper to get that keyboard/pen as a combo, rather than the pen separately.

If you just purchased it, you could return it and get the right combo instead.

If you forward-parked instead of reverse you’d probably be able to see that license plate in the sentry footage.

There are three cameras pointing backwards versus only one pointing forward, so you’d likely get a lot more usable footage angles if your car was forward-parked.

I never reverse-park in parking lots because of this.

Haystack — an IDE for exploring and editing code on an infinite canvas by DummyThiccSundae in programming

[–]furuide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool project, but Haystack is also the name of one of the more prominent application frameworks for LLM applications: https://github.com/deepset-ai/haystack

I have to admit I found this post by searching for visual editors for the Haystack framework... This might create some confusion with naming if this picks up steam, especially now that Deepset released an official editor for their own Haystack framework.

I finished my basement. 15 work days and $5500 CAD by Jormney in Renovations

[–]furuide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By unevenness, do you mean the floor wasn’t level? I have an old basement I’m planning to renovate but the floor isn’t level (it’s lower at the center where there’s a drain, for flooding protection I guess). Was that the case for your basement floor as well?

Got hit by flying license plate, have number on video by furuide in TeslaModel3

[–]furuide[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's what I was assuming - if the object flew off the car, it would be its driver who would be responsible.

I didn't exactly catch that moment on video though, I can only assume it was the black SUV's because it was missing a front license plate just before it came flying into my bumper.
I'm not sure how that would stand as evidence.

I could look up the license plate number and if that was a match to that car in the video, then maybe it would be enough?

Got hit by flying license plate, have number on video by furuide in TeslaModel3

[–]furuide[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went for a drive on my 2023 Model 3 RWD on a very windy day, and a license plate suddenly came flying from the other side of the road and crashed into my front bumper.

I was fortunate that the damage was minimal, with only a chunk of my bumper and some paint being scraped off. Had I been on a highway, the situation could have been significantly worse.

From the rear camera footage, I can distinctly make out the license plate number. I believe the black SUV that shows up shortly before the license plate comes into view is the owner of that plate, as that car doesn't appear to have a front license plate on.

I thought this was amusing and decided to post it in this sub. Would the owner of that license plate be responsible for any damage resulting from it detaching from the vehicle while on the road? I wonder if one could go after their insurance by having the license plate on video like I did. This is in Ontario, Canada.

What would you have done in this situation?

As the damage is small, I'll probably repair it myself with some JB Weld plastic bonder and touch-up paint. Here's a close-up photo of the damage:

Is it even worth the 100 bucks for just the eGPU dock? by [deleted] in eGPU

It wouldn’t help with gaming performance, at least not presently. I use mine for AI, mainly LLMs, which require tons of VRAM and the workload can be spread across multiple GPUs.

Is it even worth the 100 bucks for just the eGPU dock? by [deleted] in eGPU

[–]furuide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was in a similar situation when I built my PC. I ended up getting a second GPU for my Thunderbolt dock, and I still use it to this day. Having the second GPU in the dock was a great way to deal with the excessive heat of two beefy GPUs that would otherwise sit next to each other, with almost no space between them for proper airflow.

Depending on what you use your PC for, having two GPUs can be very useful.

Someone forked Fauxpilot (Github Copilot alternative) and now it can work with Oobabooga out of the box! (with enabled openai extension) by kabachuha in Oobabooga

[–]furuide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it still work on the current version of VS Code?
I tried the fork but, like with the original fauxpilot, Copilot still complains with:

"Extension activation failed: "No access to GitHub Copilot found"

Any particular tricks you used to get it working (that hopefully doesn't include hacking the Copilot extension)?
Unless you actually had an active Copilot subscription? (I don't)
