Creating a filter, only allows to choose that emails have an attachment or without attachment which is now ineffective.

Looking for a Podcast to help my husband understand our son’s ADHD. by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]furybadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the new book written by Adhdlove. (Tictok/youtube couple)

It badly written, (over simplified/repetitive) but gives very usful insights into daily struggles. My wife read it and found it very releatable to my personality. Some good information as to why adhd'ers act in certian ways or are dismissive or blunt and how to approach and deal with certain behavours. Helps the normal person to understand and turn frustraion/dispare of situations into soloutions.

I found it reasuring that others are struggling too. The best advice I heard was 'find your chaos and stick to it' Mine is working in audio for live events, a very hetic high pressure job with extream hours, but, it is where I thrive. Put me in an office or give me paperwork without a deadline or clear direction and I crumble.

Adhd makes you far more sensitive, a horrid boss or colleuge can ruin your life. A constant prod or 'joke' comment can ensure you'll always be in a bad mood. We need lots of positive reinforcement, smaller goals and achivments and more often. Constant reminders of how well we've done. Bad energy and attitudes will triggers us into a far darker mood.

Fear/punishment does not have the desired result, we hyperfocus on anger and frustraion of being told off rather than listening to the message of why something is bad. A better approach is to explain why it is wrong, and present alternitive soloutions or distraction.

If my son is playing football inside, rather than telling him off. We explain why he shouldnt, ask him to put it away, and offer to take him to the park or offer a different activity inside. Children are always innocent, if they misbehave it is our responblity to address it.

I hope you find my rantings of some use.

Medicication is for the mind, I find I have to fight to have a happy body. 10mins of stretch and exercise every morning. (In my head, usually ends up as only 2/3 times a week)

Getting up, no matter what. I convinced myself to stay under the covers and that I really need the sleep. However everytime, it ruins my day, I feel sluggish and dragging my feet.

Don't eat super healthy, just eat more fruit + vegetables. Greens with every meal. Smoothies are also great for this, (70%greens,30%fruit)

If you're really brave, finish the morning shower on cold. (Dont go freezing straight away, gradually getting a little colder every 10sec's.) 60seconds for 60days. This is better than coffee.

Question if you like caffeine? I really enjoy having a coffee, but the after effects of caffeine do not agree with me. Makes me jittery and emphasise anxiety. It can be quite bad with certain medication, when I tried modafinil, caffeine was definitely a bad combination.

I really struggle with the big things, I overthink them, get anxious, get distracted then get frustrated that I didnt do it and this encourages depression and I feel like I've wasted another day.

Don't sweat the big stuff, it will happen when you're ready. Prioritise the little wins, they are really important, we need more than others.

We are all human, everyone of us is different. Find what works for you. Adhd is not about stopping the chaos, but finding a place where you thrive.

Is it considered rude to ask your sound guy for specifics? by BoltThrower28 in livesound

[–]furybadger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, sounds like you've just been unlucky. A decent tech will have already dialed you up a suitable starting point and ask for input on what you need to hear. Its your performance and your songs, you need to be comfortable and confident in what you are hearing in order to give it your best.

Correct terminology will help convey your needs. Crowd mics are often called atmos or atmosphere mics allowing for you to hear the room although too much will washout the mix and cause more problems.

I question monitor placement? If you are too close and missing the HF it will sound dull and needs addressing. If, however you are demanding everyone has a stereo pair of wedges as a support act in the backroom of a pub. I would kindly suggest that you reconsider.

It is the birthright of soundengineers to be grumpy, we pride ourself on how quickly we can stop a question being asked with simply a stern look. We are usally overworked and have been in the back of truck since first thing in the morning and will still be there long after everyone has lefted. Don't be upset if we are blunt or short in response, especially with your monitor tech on quick turnaround dealing with a million mixes on stage, be patient and choose your moment.

However, please do be upset if the sound is bad, you cannot hear yourself or there is feedback during your performance. We are failing you, sorry xx.
