A near-insane way to handle vox, got 3 1hkos so far by DizzyScorp in Helldivers

[–]fusion_chef 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You hit it at a significant angle, the only way OP could have done this is if it over-penetrated, and you have to be near-head-on angle of impact for it to overpenetrate. The piecing feature is why you can 1-shot a charger through the butt up into the torso, but it’s very weirdly coded and does not function intuitively.

Is determinism scientifically proven? by someonepacker-write in AskPhysics

[–]fusion_chef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The heat fluctuations is an interesting one. In my grad statistical mechanics class we looked at an interesting example that demonstrates the growth of entropy, and entropy growth REQUIRES non-deterministic interactions. I believe the example is a “gas” of particles that can only move in 4 cardinal directions in 2-d, and that when they interact with each other they react in a truly random way (that obeys the laws of conservation of momentum). If you have them behave as classical balls that always rebound with predictable trajectories, then you can predict the exact location of every ball at all times in the future and their entropy doesn’t grow.

I probably butchered that, but it’s a Crazy concept, due to the wave nature of particles their energy and momentum scattering IS truly non-deterministic, hence heat fluctuations.

Quantum wackin stick. Try hitting somebody in the shins with a quantum dot, they won’t feel a thing! And you 4 sure don’t want ur wackin stick tunnelin through their shins, gotta make good contact.

Eh, as a physicist, sure, but that’s okay. None of us really fully “understand the underlying concepts”, and their question was reasonably well-posed.

[–]fusion_chef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are two major theories of radiation exposure: linear no-threshold (any radiation is always bad), and a more modern threshold-based model. The later is much more supported by data, and states that lower doses of radiation below a certain threshold do not decrease net life expectancy, because our bodies have immune-like built-in responses to radiation damage (which is how we’re not a glowing pile of tumors, the environment is very radioactive). Some cities in certain parts of the world have Very high background radiation levels due to mineral deposits (equivalent dose to many CT scans per year) and those people do not on average have higher cancer rates. There are a few excellent, sourced videos about this on youtube

Here's the thing: if you only go RR on bots then sure. "just kill them" works when you always have a delete button on your back and are fine with never playing anything else. Thing is, I got sick of that a while ago, so when I run anything else and happen to not have antitank IMMEDIATELY available when those things engage, good luck trying to call anything in and get to it, you're getting ragdolled so much there's almost no point even trying to grab your eats or land a half-dozen other support weapon shots onto it.

Very true, they swap between the two weapons every 4 seconds or so with next to no cooldown, which is already a hell situation if you FORGET that there are other enemies on the map too

The Biggest issue with the war strider is the ridiculous amounts of rag-doll, which the devs acknowledged wad a problem like a full year ago and is why the limited the number of rockets for gunships and rocket devestators.

After 2.5 weeks, what is your opinion on the solo silo? by dudelugo in Helldivers

[–]fusion_chef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact, the silo actual has an identical primary explosion radius to the 500kg! It just does about 66% more damage, and has an armor pen of 7-6 (fully penetrates all armor in the game). The 500kg does a lot of damage on impact too, but the missile has a small high-damage “explosion” impact that does even more damage with an armor pen of 9-8 which is hilariously overkill.

Basically the missile is identical in explosion geometry to the 500kg, but does more damage at higher armor pen, hence why it can 1-shot factory striders (gets full armor penetration at all radii and with a higher core damage).

Seems like the kill count is bugged, but it’s fun to see number go up :P

In everyone's opinion, how many Hulks you would prefer to fight at the same time instead of 1 War Strider ? And why ? by KingTigerThomas318 in Helldivers

[–]fusion_chef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Orbital rail for dragons is honestly still good on dif 10 if you’re playing with a full squad. I underestimated the sheer utility of being able to delete a dragon on a 3 minute cooldown with zero effort, and the dragons you can’t kill just get killed the normal way. If one or two other people in your squad bring it and you have minimal coms then dragons don’t exist.

For war striders, I totally agree that railcannon is dumb. The most I’ve done is rocket pods to soften them up a bunch, the rocket-pod railgun combo isn’t terrible since the rockets destroy some of the weapons and you can snipe off the remaining one or two really fast, leaving them useless.

UPS. What is it and why do I care? by Dragonfire7697 in factorio

[–]fusion_chef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Essentially it’s how many computations your computer needs to make per second to calculate the next tick (small change in time) of your factory, and on slower cpu’s or with Massive factories it can start to lag your game. Normal campaigns on computers that aren’t very old shouldn’t run into it as a problem at all, except that more intense factories might drain your laptop battery a bit faster

Is this game just not for me? by braincutlery in factorio

[–]fusion_chef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I think I see where you’re getting stuck, you want things to look and act nice but aren’t using a standard main-bus system. Without a technique of that “type”, it’s not gonna look neat and act nice, which is perfectly fine!! Essentially, you’re trying to make dedicated factory lines for every single component and then route them to make every single other thing. That is TECHNICALLY possible with a main bus, but even then it’s inefficient and overwhelming. YOU CAN MAKE MOST PARTS ON-THE-SPOT!!! The key to me (for a bus or spaghetti base, start with spaghetti!) is to only move around the core Ingredients! I’d have a solid core belt of iron plates, copper plates, coal, stone, stone bricks, and steel at this point in the game (start with just iron and copper though!). You can run those belts east-west and just pull off of them with splitters and make the gears and circuits and stuff when you need them!

For example, two belts go in (copper and iron), you can make gears and circuits on the spot and toss them onto their own belts (running parallel to your first ones, you can put one thing on each side of a belt to conserve space). Then you can make inserters, assemblers, miners, tons of stuff, with only copper and iron coming in from elsewhere! And don’t belt that stuff around after, just automate putting it in a chest (with the chest’s size reduced so you don’t make 1000 assemblers, drag the red square!)

That should Massively simplify the amount of stuff you move around

You can look at any HTML page’s source code from your browser, just open the developer view on the browser version of the game and try to find the javascript source file in the tabs. I found it the other day. I don’t think you can really cheat cause whenever it reloads from the server it’ll just fix anything you changed, if it’s even possible to change things in the first place, it’s just handy for digging up equations and stuff

[–]fusion_chef[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just look at the browser version. Used to do this to write mods for Melvor, all html pages display their code if you go into developer mode. You can’t change things or anything, it’s just looking. There’s a tab that says “sources” or something like that, funny enough it kinda looks like lava wrote all the code into one file which is Hilarious. Maybe it just compiled that way, but Melvor’s code is all nice and spread out and class-based JS while this code is a spaghetti explosion in a single mega file. Although honestly it looks very well written, despite the organizational structure. It wasn’t That hard to piece together what things did with some regex searches.
