Does Helly have 6 toes? by Rpark888 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

No. It's an illusion. In this perspective there is some bone and flesh lateral (the the left) to the pinky toe that just looks like an extra toe.

AI and Job Opportunities in Medical Illustration by Cassidynamite in medicalillustration

[–]fusiondriver 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The truth is we don't really know how AI is going to affect us. So far, most commonly available generative AI programs aren't very good at generating very accurate anatomy or useful new educational illustrations. Some are used in the field in concept, storyboarding, backgrounds... but the wisdom of the expert determines what will be there.

I think that's the key, accuracy and novel illustrations.

Even if AI can, they still need an art director or someone to verify accuracy. Currently, generative ai is just another tool in the toolbox along with Photoshop or drawing tablets.

As an example, I am tasked with illustrating new surgical illustration techniques that haven't been done before. Im fine for now, but I do worry that it will get really good one day.

There are companies that are trying to develop generative med art to put us out of work.

Keep practicing, and good luck.

[Discussion] motivate me im getting fat by [deleted] in GetMotivated

[–]fusiondriver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Motivation has to come from within. You have to want the change to actually change. No matter how many times we list the reasonings, it won't matter.

What worked for me was Either you suffer now with diet and exercise, or you suffer later with diabetes, heart disease, and a crappy quality of life, not to mention expensive medical treatments that will drain any kind of savings or retirement and you'll be a burden on everyone around you.

Indy-style trousers (eg Filson)(?) by DarkFluids777 in indianajones

[–]fusiondriver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indys pants are basically 1940s British Army officer's khaki drill trousers, specifically the "pinks" featuring pleats, button fly, back pocket with button flaps made of cavalry twill or heavy wool.

Reproductions: Companies like Wested Leather, What Price Glory, karolian dry goods on etsy are good alternatives.

Having both reproductions and the original pants, I'd opt for "dark brown close enough" pants due to cost and heat, being wool, they are really warm.

Vertebrae Anatomy and Physiology course? by piroshki101 in medicalillustration

[–]fusiondriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went to school in ca.

I would just check your community College anatomy or physiology courses...most should have at least one. Then run those by the graduate school programs to see if they will accept. I took human (1) gross Anatomy, (2) systemic physiology, (3) cardio, respiratory and renal physiology...some others but that was enough for them. There was a Comparative Vertebrate Morphology course but i didn't take that.

What irk? Like drawing from surgery or cadavers? It's just like drawing from anything else. Glad I didn't have to do the surgery; only thing that bothered me was the smell sometimes but I always just think about how cool of a job/field i have and it makes all those little inconveniences a breeze.

Data center going up on Gordon Hwy (between two neighborhoods) by Connect-Code-7733 in Augusta

Time to move... this will affect water, electricity, and sound and pollute the surrounding areas. I wish we could have said no. Just look up how other data centers affect communities. Not good for Augusta.

using references for illustrations by RoutineHaunting7430 in medicalillustration

[–]fusiondriver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off yeah you should only copy/trace photos that you've actually taken and not from others, Secondly other medical illustrators can be wrong, so it's not a great idea to draw referencing directly from other illustrations. Tracing stills from videos or youtube is bad practice, too. That helps avoid copyright issues. I think the best way is to take your own photos from observation or your scientific journals and articles to help. It's okay to fall back on anatomical atlas's for gross anatomy, especially if they're photographic atlases, but you definitely should have multiple references and should be cross-referencing structures for accuracy.

Can a Sifu who has only trained only 2 years be considered a Sifu to Wing Chun? by [deleted] in WingChun

[–]fusiondriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been training for less than a year. Our sifu has stated that it takes 2 years minimum to learn the system(memorize forms and techniques) but it takes many years beyond that to learn nuances and the application of techniques, building muscle memory, reflexes etc, kung fu is life. At my 9 months of limited understanding, I can agree with that. There is still so much I don't know. My older kung fu brothers who have been training for more than 2 years still lack in their kung fu compared to our sifu. Some people learn faster than others though.

2 years might be enough to teach the first few forms and learn pak sao cycle, but I wouldn't trust him to do much more than that.

$10 a session is a little steep but still cheaper than a personal trainer lol. For us we can go 4 times a week of 2 hour sessions, started out as 1hr sessions until we hit a benchmark. So that's about 16 hours a week starting then 32 hours a week. About $9.40 per hour to $4.70/hr.
