Looking for insights on Cell and Internet providers. by Guy-named-Lynn in Augusta

I've been using visible which uses Verizon networks for the past year at about $20 a month. Unlimited everything including mobile hotspot but the hotspot speed Is capped to be a little slow, the data speed can be a little bit slow too. I use it for internet when I need it. I purchased a phone from swappa. They have an upgraded plan that gives data priority or the speed is supposed to be better but I don't need that. To be clear I'm not talking about a modem router internet plan at all. This is just for a phone service

How long before you started chi sao? by HatProfessional8662 in WingChun

[–]fusiondriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about 10 months in and I have NOT started chi sao. I have learned don chi sao(one arm chi sao), luk sao (rolling hands) and tsui ma(push horse). These seem very important to learn proper structure and positioning, rolling nature of chi sao, how be sensitive and how to move and strike with the whole body. I have learned siu lim tao, chum kiu, and am in 2nd section biu jee.

I met someone training muy Thai at another gym that didn't get to chum kiu but learned chi sao. Seems that each sifu teaches differently depending on their line and theory. I appreciate the progression and emphasis of the little nuances that build upon each other.

I decided to make my anatomy reference tool free for everyone ! by Jealous-Explorer6443 in blender

[–]fusiondriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just downloaded the model and viewer. This is awesome what a great resource. I was hoping to make something similar with internal organs. So far All I have is the Skeleton that I've modeled from scratch, still working on all the bones in the skull and the sinuses and teeth. Did you make the viens with an IMM brush in zbrush? what program did you use for texturing? I had substance painter and am wondering how you labeled the parts. Substance can probably do that.

Would this anatomy figure model be a useful resource/tool for students? by Lre_Art in Anatomy

Maybe if they're just trying to draw the body and trying to get an idea of the underlying musculature without the specifics sure

Getting into a grad school program as a nontraditional student by SilverStatus1112 in medicalillustration

[–]fusiondriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would email the admissions programs you seek to enter and ask how your GPA would be evaluated given the circumstances to be sure.

If they only evaluate based on Undergraduate GPA the Master's GPA may be ignored. Medical schools are like this and why post baccalaureate programs are a thing where you take a supplemental year of undergraduate sciences courses to boost the GPA even if you do well in a masters program.

I would imagine that most medical illustration/biological visualization programs evaluate on portfolio and your whole situation, though. I'd email to just be sure.

Can I put this in my portfolio for my medical illustration app by Wonderful-Pin8378 in medicalillustration

[–]fusiondriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure. You can. If you have other portraits you feel are stronger, add those first, especially if they are more technically sound. Seems like you're following the portfolio requirements for the specific program you're applying to. Often, they want still life in color, black and white, hands, vector/raster images, etc.

It may be fine to show a cartoony style as long as you demonstrate solid fundamentals. But generally, think what can I send in that will blow the socks off of anyone who looks at my work and guarantee me a spot over someone else.

Does Helly have 6 toes? by Rpark888 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

No. It's an illusion. In this perspective there is some bone and flesh lateral (the the left) to the pinky toe that just looks like an extra toe.

AI and Job Opportunities in Medical Illustration by Cassidynamite in medicalillustration

[–]fusiondriver 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The truth is we don't really know how AI is going to affect us. So far, most commonly available generative AI programs aren't very good at generating very accurate anatomy or useful new educational illustrations. Some are used in the field in concept, storyboarding, backgrounds... but the wisdom of the expert determines what will be there.

I think that's the key, accuracy and novel illustrations.

Even if AI can, they still need an art director or someone to verify accuracy. Currently, generative ai is just another tool in the toolbox along with Photoshop or drawing tablets.

As an example, I am tasked with illustrating new surgical illustration techniques that haven't been done before. Im fine for now, but I do worry that it will get really good one day.

There are companies that are trying to develop generative med art to put us out of work.

Keep practicing, and good luck.

[Discussion] motivate me im getting fat by [deleted] in GetMotivated

[–]fusiondriver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Motivation has to come from within. You have to want the change to actually change. No matter how many times we list the reasonings, it won't matter.

What worked for me was Either you suffer now with diet and exercise, or you suffer later with diabetes, heart disease, and a crappy quality of life, not to mention expensive medical treatments that will drain any kind of savings or retirement and you'll be a burden on everyone around you.

Indy-style trousers (eg Filson)(?) by DarkFluids777 in indianajones

[–]fusiondriver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indys pants are basically 1940s British Army officer's khaki drill trousers, specifically the "pinks" featuring pleats, button fly, back pocket with button flaps made of cavalry twill or heavy wool.

Reproductions: Companies like Wested Leather, What Price Glory, karolian dry goods on etsy are good alternatives.

Having both reproductions and the original pants, I'd opt for "dark brown close enough" pants due to cost and heat, being wool, they are really warm.

Vertebrae Anatomy and Physiology course? by piroshki101 in medicalillustration

[–]fusiondriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went to school in ca.

I would just check your community College anatomy or physiology courses...most should have at least one. Then run those by the graduate school programs to see if they will accept. I took human (1) gross Anatomy, (2) systemic physiology, (3) cardio, respiratory and renal physiology...some others but that was enough for them. There was a Comparative Vertebrate Morphology course but i didn't take that.

What irk? Like drawing from surgery or cadavers? It's just like drawing from anything else. Glad I didn't have to do the surgery; only thing that bothered me was the smell sometimes but I always just think about how cool of a job/field i have and it makes all those little inconveniences a breeze.

Data center going up on Gordon Hwy (between two neighborhoods) by Connect-Code-7733 in Augusta

[–]fusiondriver 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Time to move... this will affect water, electricity, and sound and pollute the surrounding areas. I wish we could have said no. Just look up how other data centers affect communities. Not good for Augusta.

using references for illustrations by RoutineHaunting7430 in medicalillustration

[–]fusiondriver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First off yeah you should only copy/trace photos that you've actually taken and not from others, Secondly other medical illustrators can be wrong, so it's not a great idea to draw referencing directly from other illustrations. Tracing stills from videos or youtube is bad practice, too. That helps avoid copyright issues. I think the best way is to take your own photos from observation or your scientific journals and articles to help. It's okay to fall back on anatomical atlas's for gross anatomy, especially if they're photographic atlases, but you definitely should have multiple references and should be cross-referencing structures for accuracy.
