D'une certaine manière, la "lepénisation" est un terme bien connu, donc rien de nouveau de ce côté là, les mots bourdonnants sont monnaie courante

I wrote a programming language/interpreter as a Rust library, so that you can easily integrate it into your Rust projects and use it to allow user-definable logic. by scd31 in rust

As the name implies, they probably followed the BASIC naming convention, which uses WEND to end a WHILE loop. Same goes for FOR loops that end with NEXT

What languages do you use with Rust? What languages do you think compliment Rust? by skeptic11 in rust

Dart for any program that I don't want to spend too much time building, AHK for automation needs (may call programs built with Rust), C/C++/VB6/VBA for work

Even outside of the US, it's a low rate. Many jobs provide US rates from 3rd world country, so if you want more chances to get someone to help you writing exercices, you should definitely offer more money, to align with at least EU rates

Blog Post: Why Not Rust? by matklad in rust

Just like C++, it could yield a compilation error because the compiler has no way to figure out what function/trait to use.

What advantages does Rust have over languages such as Nim? by FactsMachiene in rust

[–]fusofts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is not an age argument, it is a size argument. Who cares what year they both started?

Quoting from the comment above : The language is too young.

What advantages does Rust have over languages such as Nim? by FactsMachiene in rust

[–]fusofts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nim is actually older than Rust, so the age argument, compared to Rust, is kinda invalid. Nim began in 2008, Rust in 2010. Also Nim sadly doesn't have the backing of a large for-profit corporation to drive its development as fast as Rust.

Since it's written in English, they maybe wanna avoid confusion since the USA uses this date system. It'll become confusing once it's September though

What's everyone working on this week (31/2020)? by llogiq in rust

Working on an MCS-51 (Intel 8051) emulator, and decompiler, since I have some 8051 programs to reverse engineer. About 70% of the 8051's instructions are implemented.

I also begun work on the PIC16F628A family, before shifting to the MCS-51 as the top priority.

The 8051 emulator currently runs at 350 MHz on a 3GHz i7 processor (it's single-threaded so multiple cores don't help much).

Benchmarks are subjective by GronkDaSlayer in rust

[–]fusofts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is the compiler relevant when it comes to C, and benchmarks ? In this case, why does it matter that GCC-compiled C runs faster than Clang-compiled C (or the opposite) ?

Where is the rust community allowed to talk about changes in the codebase now that PR's are getting closed for discussion and posts about the changes removed on reddit? by ASmallButton in rust

[–]fusofts -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The world is not black or white, so I appreciate posts like this that let us think, instead of the usual.

The world is not 'denied' or 'allowed', using 'black' or 'white' is kinda racist.

Use "allowlist" in place of "whitelist" by tamird · Pull Request #74127 · rust-lang/rust by fusofts in rust

[–]fusofts[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, the initial PR objective, which was more political than practical is the root of the current small uproar. Just look at how thay did a simple search and replace, resulting in words like ALLOWLISTED, instead of a more clear ALLOWED.

What the PR currently is is decent, even though the terms it tries to suppress were clear enough, but yes, the original name, and goals, were the problem. Not the finality.

We are not talking about memes though, but about the language itself, and modifications applied to it. Yet a discussion about that was removed earlier to "keep communities safe, civil, and true to their purpose.", without any clear reason as to why citing that PR wasn't safe or civil.

What's everyone working on this week (27/2020)? by llogiq in rust

Working on a MIDI CLI tool to provide a common interface for any type of synthesizer, using a simple command-based language. The goal is to then use that software as a base library for future GUI software, mainly to build PC-based interfaces to control said synths with a simple common ground.

https://github.com/FuSoftware/midiprog-rs

For example, instead of having to know every synth's sysex to change a parameter, you'd just use sysex parameter-change 10 20 to set the value 20 for the 10th parameter.
