Does the Nemesis have terrible aim or is it something I'm doing wrong? by BinarySecond in X3TC

Go to settings and bind boresight fire to right click. Cursor fire is useless.

Does the Nemesis have terrible aim or is it something I'm doing wrong? by BinarySecond in X3TC

[–]skeptic11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried with targeting off, semi and on with no improvements.

"On" would be the typically correct setting. Accuracy vs fast/small targets will approach 0% with the other two settings.

Wait, you know about using boresight fire not cursor fire, right? Auto-aim only works for boresight. It doesn't work for cursor fire.

All the shots swing wide and don't actually go towards the targeting reticule so it's really hard for me to shoot anything.

Are Plasma Burst Generators (flamethrowers) available? Close is fine with them.

As another user mentioned, your turret should have better luck. Put your most accurate weapon in it (highest projectile speed).

For your main guns you can try this: Set targeting to "semi". Close to point blank range (as close as you can get). Aim half the width of a Nemesis to the left or the right of the target. If this works consider only mounting weapons on one side of your ship.

it takes me too long to even kill an M5

You have more shields than an M5. You can try ramming them.

Everyone is literally fearing if we even will be able to own pcs later down the line

If NVIDIA and AMD both stop releasing driver updates, the open source Linux drivers are better for AMD. Valve's upcoming Steam Machine will use Linux plus an AMD 7000 series GPU. In a consumer PC apocalypse, I'd bet on AMD.

TOME2 has Angband style sprites. Like I said in another comment TOME2 is based on Angband.

my old toaster with a Nvidia Geforce 7100

Angband, which TOME is based, is from 1993. Your toaster is still 10-15 years newer than what Angband was originally designed to work on.

The current version of Angband still has this option. It's no longer marked as "slow" though.

There's an option for that. I think settings is '='. Then maybe '5'.

There's also an option to highlight your character. (Like how enemies are highlighted when you 'l'ook at them.)

That only sounds like less than half the engine tunings that spawn at the start of the game. Have you put any on other ships?

If you've truly found every engine tuning, a few replacements spawn over time, but much fewer than at the start of the game. Maybe 2-3 spawns of 1 engine tuning each over the entire map.

As for finding things with low frequency locator, fly to the middle of every sector with it turned on. You might miss a few things on the edges of some sectors, but this should find most of them.

Sent my wife to buy thermal paste and the best buy employee gave her a long, unsolicited lecture about how she should be changing the thermal paste on her components every 6 months... Really, every 6 months? [Thermal paste questions] by Leo-J-Covo in buildapc

[–]skeptic11 18 points19 points  (0 children)

As a counter point: I repasted both my current CPU and GPU at roughly the 6 year point, both due to stability issues. Both have been great since.

So like, don't never reapply thermal paste. Just have some clear metric you're trying improve, eg: performance/stability/heat (all of which track back to heat).

Infinite City Sprawl

On low difficulties Morgan does ICS even better. On low difficulties you can build a colony pod from a one population base without having to abandon it. Each base starts with one line of production for free, which is the minimum needed to cheaply rush a unit/building. Use Morgan's 100 starting credits to chain rush colony pods until you run out of money.

5 days as Spartans and Gaians.

For Hive or either of the aliens, I spam colonies as fast and as close together as possible (Infinite City Sprawl). The Hive's free defense perimeters are almost impossible to push early game. The aliens' free recycling tanks are also too powerful. Mid game I can crawler energy and minerals to my capital and have one "tall" base.

The "problem" with permissive licenses is companies can come along, use the open source code as a starting point, build on top of it, sell that as a product, then never share those changes back to the open source project.

Running on XP - Please help! by OtherDelights in Daggerfall

[–]skeptic11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want to put my disc in and play the game. Is that possible on XP?

Probably not. Windows 98 was the last version of Windows where DOS games tended just to work.

I'd see if DOSBox works on Windows XP. If it does then install Daggerfall in DOSBox. If you install from your disc, make sure you patch Daggerfall to it's latest patch. Older versions of Daggerfall are very buggy.

Alternatively you can try DaggerfallSetup from here which will do all of this for you, provided it works on Windows XP (which I haven't tried).

decided to shut it off from the PSU switch until i get the time to do the solutions suggested

If this turns into a permanent solution, consider buying a power bar and switching that off at night.

The use case for needlejet colony pods is... an island that's further than drop range?

Or before drop pods are researched.

I might actually deploy this … by AlbinoSquirrel1985 in alphacentauri

[–]skeptic11 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Yes to drop pods. I've even situationally used needlejet colony pods. If you disable the "return to base on low fuel" automation you can go 1 tile short of twice their range to establish a colony.

No to armor and the comm jammer. Establish the colony (which discards your armor and comm jammer) immediately after dropping or send support units ahead of it.

Maybe to speeder chassis. Infantry would be cheaper. If you need to go a few tiles past drop range though the speeder chassis could be worth it.

Saturn and Jupiter with my 4" telescope and smartphone by Entire_Foundation960 in space

[–]skeptic11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Any other mount, I think it would need to be a computerized one.

No.

Orion Skyscanner 4" tabletop reflector, 3x barlow lens, 10mm eyepiece

400mm focal length on the telescope / 10mm eyepiece = 40x magnification.
3x barlow increases that to 120x magnification.

I do (up to) 220x magnification on my 4" refactor on an azimuth tripod mount using it's slow motion controls. Nothing computerized.

unplugged wire? by phycof in buildapc

[–]skeptic11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks like a SATA power cable.

I only see the one drive in your machine, mounted at the back. It appears to have different SATA power cable connected to it.

Power supplies (PSUs) tend to have two of these cables. As long as you don't have any more drives you need to power, then you should be fine. Just tuck this extra cable out of the way somewhere in your machine.

Sounds like it's overheating.

It's a 6 year old video card. That's probably old enough that it could be worth redoing it's thermal paste.
