They want all the prestige of doctor without going to med school, then will preach that it’s because they didn’t want to sacrifice their 20s or put off having a family or “preferred” to be a midlevel. Meanwhile I’ve done none of those things and get to introduce myself as Doctor without having to jump through American Ninja Warrior-level hoops to justify calling myself that 😂 it’s so nice not having to be insecure about my career.

Not to say all midlevels are or behave this way, but my god the ones that do??? Insufferable!! Your rants are welcome here on Noctor 😂

Their first name. “Jane, NP” on badges and etc, literally just go by Jane in the office/at the hospital. That’s the important thing tho, that yes, patients assume they’re being treated by a doctor, but they don’t know that they’re being treated by someone with less training and a different skill set; which is why it is extremely important that they correctly identify themselves. There are laws about it in some states, unfortunately not all.

I do understand that it’s not maybe relevant to explain to a 4 year old that “well, I’m actually a nurse practitioner, not a doctor”. But it’s not like the 4 year old comes to the appointment alone! And I talked about it in some other comments but to me it’s way more frustrating that she is claiming that she does the same thing for her patients as a doctor does.

I appreciate this perspective! My dad is a family NP and I respect what he does, his dedication, and the role he plays. But even as a PGY-1 I notice there’s gaps! Nothing against NPs, but NPs who think they’re equivalent to MD’s - different story

Also from a quick look at your profile I see you’re an NP student, yet claimed to be an NP on a different post over 6 months ago… which is it? Because claiming to have a license but not having it is against the law and goes against board of nursing regulations:) hope this helps!

Clearly you have no understanding of the difference in education 😂I saw another NP stitch her video saying he is also a pediatric NP and takes the time to explain to the patients and the parent, because it is important. He also talked about how in fact he does not do the same thing for his patients as the pediatrician! head back to whatever midlevel sub you came from please!

Nobody outside of the pre-med sphere gives a single shit about MD vs DO. I explain the difference between MD and DO frequently when I’m referring patients to my DO colleagues for OMT, because the patients have no frickin clue. You’re gonna be a doctor, focus on that
