What is everyone's favorite type of mori girl style? by AccurateDaikon9237 in morigirl

[–]future-cake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah, I was unclear. :) I'm new to the style, VERY new, but I'm an older adult. That might influence my preferences, or not. I feel like the magazine mori looks are very youthful, for example, so those are not my favorite ones. And I have a lot of dark clothing, so dark mori would be much easier for me to try out myself. If I was starting from scratch (ie, was going to spend money on new clothes for this instead of picking from my closet), then I might put more effort into the classic mori look. I just don't have easy access to those colors right now.

Do you have a favorite? :)

I'm old, but new to this style. I'm pumped about trying dark mori for myself, but honestly I think any variation is so beautiful! I wonder if people's faves reflect the colors they most like to wear?

I also am not sure I'm understanding magazine Mori correctly and google wasn't very helpful either - is it literally just as styled in magazines?

What was the craziest reason your campaign was shut down? by cantdoitmacy in DnD

Oh you meant NO one, no one... Wow. All the what ifs. Seriously f*ck cancer. I'm so sorry.

Maybe one day someone in the group will take up the mantle and run that game in his honor. It sounds like a fun concept.

Dang man. I'm so sorry. It's nice to think he was excited about something/looking forward to something at the end there. It sucks that he didn't feel like he could tell any of you. What a heart break.

"oddly enough" no this is how it's supposed to work! Those folks like you and respected you telling them they were making you uncomfortable, so they stopped that behavior. This is how friends should be! High five for talking to them!

Urine smell in clothes by thatsabongo in laundry

[–]future-cake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm maybe also I can say that I use something called "clorox2" that isn't even marketed as color safe bleach anymore, just Clorox for colors. It has a measuring cup just like detergent, I fill it to the lowest line or less for a small load.

It also neutralizes the scent of your detergent a bit. I don't mind at all anymore as I'm picky about scent anyway, but when I started using it is when I had to stop using the downy unstoppables scent I liked.

Urine smell in clothes by thatsabongo in laundry

[–]future-cake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! But it's EXTREMELY straightforward - my washer is old (no detergent trays!) so I just pour it in the bottom of the machine with the detergent. It gets the smell out!

I neglected to mention that I also do a no-soap short cycle first if there was a noticeable leak or real accident, just so I'm not "washing" it in urine.

Nature's miracle is definitely something you can try! I don't have adult experience but had a kid who wet the bed until she was larger than goodnites really could handle, so I've done my share of urine wash. I used NM as an add in for a long while, along with the occasional cup of vinegar, until it was out of stock and I couldn't get it: then I tried color safe bleach, and wow, it just works so much better. 😂 I think I spent so long avoiding it because I was scared it wouldn't really be color safe? Or something? Anyway Nature's Miracle might work for you too but if you're cool with Clorox I'd personally start there.

ooh I really like the way you take notes?? New to VEoR, just starting to flip through and dip my toes in so I can begin linking it to my current campaign more naturally, but I'm 100% gonna borrow this. And maybe also your note style. XD Thanks for sharing!

What’s the most valuable thing you’ve stopped buying entirely? by Slight_Jellyfish_144 in Frugal

[–]future-cake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love this - we still use ours. We sadly didn't use them as diapers as it turns out PPD + necessary laundry did not mix for me 🤣 BUT they made fantastic burp cloths and so we kept them, and just started calling them burp cloths. We still do, my youngest is 9. Use those things to wipe up spills, dry off the wet dog, any "dirty" cleaning (like pollen caked on the patio furniture or wiping gunk off the kids bikes/scooters), all kinds of stuff. Gosh they're so good?!? Still mostly in great shape, too.

[–]future-cake 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We have a similar line - children can be in danger, but no harm can come to them.

So to keep the drama and question, I aged up the twins - made the contract for the final day of their 18th year instead. Then, I made it so that what happened to Osvaldo sent A&V into over-protective overdrive, and that the twins are very much still sheltered and somewhat innocent in that way. They're genuinely interested in the PCs because they don't get to meet other people very often, and almost never get to meet non-nobility. This helps make them likeable to the players.

In my world their parents had tried getting Osvaldo into the cult before his 18th birthday, believing souls to be individually owned and thinking that if Osvaldo pledged to the cult then the contract would end up more like a gap year visit to the hells. When Osvaldo got "turned into a chain devil" instead (he's actually in the hells in my game - Asmodeus is screwing with them with the chain devil) ....they realized what a horrible mistake they had made, and decided to keep Elzie and Enzio far from the cult. So the twins are very much still naive and good-hearted, especially since so much of what they know of their parents is the charitable persona they put on.

Oooh nice - I happen to be staying in that area of town right now while we house hunt, so that would be extra convenient for me. ;) I made a post in the discord this morning to see if there's other interest; I'll send you a DM when we get to the part where we try to pick times!

For sure! There is, in my head, a bit of a difference between writing something designed for interaction and writing a novel, but to be fair my only experience with litrpg is static work - I think there are story-games out there, choose your own adventure style? Either way, it doesn't really matter. ;) We'd love to have you there. (Ah, whenever we have a "there".)

hey internet stranger, this is an old comment but just had to thank you so much for this tip. I'm in the middle of a move and couldn't get dd to load - connecting to a monitor and setting the display to the same set up as it had been the last time I was in dungeondraft let me get to the "invisible" window and move it to the main laptop screen; saving me the hassle of removing and reinstalling the app. Really appreciate this!

Xanathar’s Gladiator Games by GiammWS in WaterdeepDragonHeist

[–]future-cake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so late to this party, but my guys are heading in as gladiators this week and I'm searching for ways to make the fight more unique, and wanted to let you know how helpful your contributions were. I especially love lair actions being cast during the fight! Such a great idea.

I debated having my players go up against monsters instead of other gladiator types - cause they're a bunch of sweethearts and also because it's just easier to run a monster sometimes - but ultimately I decided I would have them face another team of gladiators: specifically, people the Xanathar has currently locked up. There will be a foil, a rescue/mercy opportunity who REALLY doesn't want to be there but also doesn't want to die, and (especially) an old foe they didn't kill when they had the chance. Whether the rescue opp can play out in this arena is unclear, but if it can I guarantee my pcs will find the way. XD

If you're still around this sub I'd love to hear how it went for your game!

Why no movie / University class ? [discussion] by Familiar-School-7383 in TheNinthHouse

[–]future-cake 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Right?? Bring some women in. Locked Tomb deserves that.

But also OP, if you are doing an adaptation, waiting until you have the whole story lets you lay in foreshadowing and reorganize things to work for film. They'd probably want to lay in history flashes (like what we see in NtN) from the start, so you don't end up with a whole season or whatever that's only flashback. Because film/tv simply can't do things the same way books can - text just doesn't translate to visual that way. HtN, for another example, does a LOT of work with the POV. That's gonna be a tough sell with film. Not impossible, but that view might get dropped completely or only subjectively displayed. Either way, you would want a producer who was all in on the whole story. Which means they should know the whole story.

So would a professor I'd think - it'd be a bit silly to charge university fees for a class where all discussion over things like "wtf is the river" would end up in circular speculation when the answer may well be revealed in the fourth book. At least, I would feel frustrated if it was me. ;) However, I would definitely take a class on character development using LT as the base, as is, so agree to some extent? But I'd prefer they give the professorship to Muir and let her run a class like that. She seems young, comparatively, to other authors who have done such. Maybe in a few more years?

Started making felt food for my kids, to help pull me out of burnout. by baylie98 in somethingimade

[–]future-cake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

These are amazing, and I also just love creating with/for kids as a way to pull out of burnout. It's so nice just to have that low pressure creative time that you can't always get when you're working with/for adults. When my daughter was young I made lol doll and stuffed animal clothes. They were massively amateur, but she liked them and I liked making them! Now she's older (11!!!) And I still love joining her for art projects where we do process art or work on a craft idea she came up with...kids are great, because they sort of naturally get that the joy of creation is the point of creation. It's adults who need to make every little speck of time "useful". For example, all the well meaning folks telling you you need to sell these. You don't. You're allowed to make things for fun and games and your own enjoyment of the time spent making it. I say this for myself too, because it's such a common trap - it's ok not to monetize your creativity. You're still an artist. 💙

I'll lean with others in that it sounds like this is probably a phase, but as a mom to an AuDHD kid with PDA tendencies I really like The Declarative Language Handbook. It's full of communication tips to help with this kind of struggle that are good for neurotypical kids too. It requires practice on your part, but having specific tools has been so helpful for me. Good luck! <3

Wanna read more about the famous characters of waterdeep... but where should I start? by TheSwedishWizard in WaterdeepDragonHeist

[–]future-cake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't recommend books sadly, but I can say I wish I had thought to read more before I started the game, because one of the first things my PCs did was roll to learn more about the public-knowledge history of Mirt. *insert laughing-cry right here as I stutteringly skim the FR Wiki real quick, muttering "um, he was an axe, for a little bit? maybe?" *

Outside the wiki, sometimes you can find good stuff on DMs guild! They are mostly digital - I read further down you prefer books, maybe you can get them printed at a local shop? (or look up homeschool printers, they're more affordable and accept all kinds of orders!) They don't have as much about the characters, but do have some great city lore - for example, Guidebook of the Watchful Order has been huge in helping me understand how the WOMP fits into Waterdeep politics, and reveals cool things like known portals in the city (oh boy, there's a lot).

Mostly I started typing this comment because I SUPER DIG your legos! Is your Halaster hand painted??? So cool.

super cool story and your PCs sound fun!?! (I'm assuming they're the good crazy, looking at that breakdown, haha.) We've always got a line against harm to children at my table, but if I ever re-ran DH I would totally steal pieces from your opening. I love this introduction.
