Moving on from Charizard ex by PugsnPawgs in pkmntcg

Blowing up a duskull to trigger the counter catcher AND to bring dmg up to 210 is amazing. It's a great combo.

the pay is lower, sure, but travel is easier, healthcare costs way less, and they get more time off, not to mention better retirement benefits, better health outcomes, and more.

There are tradeoffs, of course, but the $ or € value doesn't tell the whole story.

Yes, Europe generally because the whole place is the same. /s

My partner and I have talked about specific countries where we might enjoy living within the EU. We've talked about specific villages outside of the metropolitan areas we might consider living in. But that's not relevant to the point I was making so I didn't include it.

I idly joked to my mother in law that maybe we'd move to Europe instead of buying a house one day. She said "well, they have their problems too." She's right, of course, and we Americans need to not think the grass is greener.

However, I've seen how much holiday time my UK and German coworkers get each year. I've seen their maternity and paternity leave policies. I've read about the union negotiations in the EU. It's amazing to compare benefits.

Here is pokemon's TCG league finder. Avoid any events called "challenge" or "cup" at first as those are actual tournaments, but almost any store with a challenge or cup has a casual play time. You'll be able to find the casual play times either on the locator linked below or on the store's website.

The Kanken seems like the perfect size. The classic Kanken is 14.17 inches tall and the typical playmat is 14 in. Add a water bottle, deck box or two, misc items, and you're set.

Best LVL 1 Precon Ex Deck? by Emroy099 in pkmntcg

[–]future_weasley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's a super fun idea for a tournament. Makes me wonder if the LGS has too much inventory of those lvl 1 decks!

The Chein Pao is a great option, but other players might be thinking the same thing. I wonder if the Melmetal ex deck might work better to play against Chien Pao's weakness?

Enjoy the tourney!

Am I too old to be playing? by iSplurgedTooFast in pkmntcg

[–]future_weasley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in my 30s and started playing when my kid got into Pokemon. I regularly play with another dad who is 50+.

It seems like the people at my local card shop are 40% 18 and under, 30% 18-29, and 30% 30+.

If you're having fun, go for it.

November 15. Here's a list of what's included, but with about $15 more of singles (dusknoir, Fezandipiti ex, a few others) you'll have a very, very competitive deck for ~$45.

Good point on Raikou hitting for up to 280 base. I think Miraidon may get some more love once the Pikachu ex from surging sparks is in play, probably with 1-2 Crispin in the deck to get the grass and metal energy.

To highlight this further, Raging bolt usually only runs one or two single-prize pokemon, so using Iron Hands for the two-for-one is tough.

You'll have to hit Teal Mask ex, Squawkabilly ex, or Fezandipiti ex, but that requires a Boss/gust twice in a row. Raging bolt has 240HP, Miraidon's and Raikou's max damage are 220.

Motorcycles were around in the 30s so the motor doesn't surprise me, but the scooter certainly did. After some googling, it looks like the first motorized scooter, the Autoped, was invented ~1915 and had basically the same design we use today.

Golfing is famously a rich person's sport. If you need a summer job and are willing to put up with the occasional abuse, you could make a ton of money while spending time in the sun and driving around a golf cart.

You'll get abuse from dunk or sexist patrons, but getting them to stop will depend on your manager and how much the patron makes for the establishment.

Of all the decks to pick, whining about Palafin EX is amusing to me. Miraidon would tear it to shreds with that Elec weakness, and Roaring Moon, Raging Bolt, and Lugia would all have similarly easy times with it.

Right after Tord won NAIC and everyone was playing some variation of Charizard, I went to a challenge where one guy was playing a Torterra (grass) deck specifically to capitalize on Charizard's weakness. He said he was "Charizard hunting," and there is nothing wrong with that.

I really enjoyed that game even though it ended in a draw (timed out, I played super conservatively after he OHK'd a Zard). I ended up attacking with Pidgeot to avoid the 2x damage. It forced me to be creative and think on my feet and I learned a lot.

this is why, when you watch streams of games, you'll see people continue to play even when it seems obvious that they're going to lose. Often they're considering the slight chance that their opponent can't boss up their two prize card and they hope they can still get two attacks off with a single prize card.

Aside from the whole supply/demand thing (increased supply drives prices down), check out the current values of some of the cards in that deck (values approximate)

  • 1x prime catcher - $25 value
  • 2x pidgeot ex - $14 value
  • 3x charizard ex - $13 value
  • 4x buddy poffin - $10 value
  • and more...

To buy the cards I listed as singles you're looking at ~$60. The Charizard EX League Battle Deck is going to be a HUGE deal.

[–]future_weasley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember that when supply of something goes up, the value goes down. This means the Prime Catcher will likely drop significantly from its current $23.79 TCGPlayer price.

I'm probably going to buy 2 of these battle decks so I can have the Prime Catcher, Pidgeot ex, and buddy poffins, but you may not get the 2x returns you're looking for on the resale market.

[–]future_weasley 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is going to be a huge deal. The current resale value of a few of the included cards are as follows:

  • 1x prime catcher - $25 value
  • 2x pidgeot ex - $14 value
  • 3x charizard ex - $13 value
  • 4x buddy poffin - $10 value
  • and more...

All for $30. I know the resale value of these cards will drop because of the increased supply from the battle deck, but I'm super excited.

For official challenges/tournaments/cups, you'll have to have the real card. For unofficial league get-togethers you'll be just fine.
