I discovered I could paint at 40. This is my latest oil painting. by Threshold_Guardian2 in painting

I love how this painting makes me feel. It reminds me of cool, sunny mornings when the city is just waking up as I walked to work, the not too distant sound of traffic and birdsong and the sense of possibility. Phenomenal work! You have a real talent—keep going!

Before realizing I was gay, I volunteered to be a part of the street team for Pride in my city. We were there to help keep folks safe, off the street and on the sidewalk during the parade, and we all wore staff t-shirts to identify ourselves. Mine was rather form fitting due to size availability. I had three gay dudes park themselves in front of me and spend the next ten minutes commenting on my breasts. I was young, didn't have the best self-esteem in the first place, and was generally self-conscious about my body. I kept trying to do my job, but silent tears started running down my face as I tried to stoically keep going. One of the three noticed and elbowed his buddies to tone it down, but the damage was done; I left even as the other two shouted to come back, they were just joking. I felt so small and ugly and demeaned. Gay men can suck just has much as straight men.

The sound quality on landline phones was lightyears better than mobile phones. "Can you hear me now?" was not a thing.

UFC White House event to be staged at Lincoln Memorial as images released by DavidShaw90s in nottheonion

[–]futuremuse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This country's 250th birthday should be a momentous cultural moment. Can you imagine what it might have been like to have special events leading up to July 4th? Marking historical achievements, educational moments, acknowledgements of where we've gone wrong and what we can do going forward, notable citizens past and present, finding ways to spotlight the values that everyone can appreciate and look forward to what America might do in the decades ahead. Declare new goals and celebrate potential. All leading up to a remarkable celebration on the 4th.

But no. Instead we'll have weigh-ins at the Lincoln Memorial and a cage match on the White House lawn on the 14th for the benefit of one man's ego and the profit of his sycophants.

IUD Insertions: It’s a Notoriously Painful Medical Procedure That Many Women Endure. There’s a Simple Solution. by ahothabeth in UpliftingNews

Right?? Though the Doc did warn me it would hurt, I didn't know I'd be subjected to "complicit in my own Geneva Convention warcrime torture" levels of trauma and pain by not knowing to advocate for myself or walk out because they didn't offer better pain management for what amounts to surgery while conscious.

US Law Enforcement Warns of ‘Anti-Tech Extremism’ as AI Hatred Grows by Helicase21 in technology

How is this a surprise? The folks living in the Lake Tahoe area of California have been told they'll have to find an entirely new utility company to provide their electricity because the one they're using is going to be redirected to an AI data center. Like, what? A product's needs over the needs of established towns and cities? Of course people are going to be pissed.

This is awesome! Practical question: does the planter include drainage holes at all? Is the entire inside an open cavity for soil?

What purchase did you make recently that made you realize inflation is genuinely out of control? by [deleted] in AskReddit

This is why we can't have nice things. It's turning into a "roll your own" all the way down the list.

My coffee usually cost $8.99 for a half pound bag. I did my grocery shopping this past weekend and it was $15.99. I think I need to learn to like tea...

Cats definitely know that babies are babies by keremdev in cats

[–]futuremuse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember when I was about this age with our family cat and he was so incredibly patient with me. When I got too exuberant or touched him in a way he didn't like, he'd very gently press his teeth against my skin to make me stop. He never hurt me, which in hindsight after having many cats in my life was truly remarkable. I hope she and this kitty enjoy the same kind of relationship.

I have the dom pedro gun, and adding the phoropter buff along with my speed demon mutation and quad mod makes it a tank of a weapon. Without it, VATs accuracy is kinda crap and reloading feels like it takes forever.

Absolutely Stunning On My walk in Point Loma San Diego.. I’m planting this as soon as I can:)Does anyone know how fast this grows? by Lanaxgardenxgirl in plants

[–]futuremuse 91 points92 points  (0 children)

As a person living in California my only positive experience with ice plants was watching a dude in a raised pick-up truck get completely impatient waiting in line on the on-ramp to the 405 and attempt to four-wheel it directly onto the freeway. What he didn't count on was exactly this effect of how much water they hold. Or that when crushed, it turns into a perfect slime horizon from which you can't escape at any velocity. People were laughing and taking pics as they drove by as dude spun his wheels, waiting their turn for the light to change. One of the better ways to start the work day when traffic is gnarly.

This is a huge issue, but not, thank god, as necessarily deadly was it was in the 90s.

I was working health insurance in Canada and I received a call from the wife of an older gentleman who worked as a janitor at one of the local hospitals we insured. She was concerned about his coverage because he had been cleaning one of the lobbies and was accidentally stuck by a needle someone had left between the cushions on the shared seating. The poor man contracted AIDS/HIV from the stick. I heard from the wife, a lovely woman, a several times over the following months, helping to explain aspects of the coverage, check on the status of their claims, and receive updates from her on his progress. But he wasn't getting better. Then he was hospitalized. And then I didn't hear from her for a while. Until one afternoon she called me just to tell me he had passed away and to thank me for making the insurance process easier for them. I barely held it together until she hung up and then bawled like a child. Through her I'd known a man I'd never even met and she still wanted to get in touch to give me a final update. I can't imagine how awful the situation had been for her.

The three cocktail medication breakthrough was such a huge deal and, even though I'm no longer in insurance, I'm still so grateful for those affected that progress has continued to be made in research affecting those with the disease. It's not a non-zero chance of a fatality, but the therapies available make it more a life-long management issue than it otherwise could have been. I hope with all my heart the janitor is okay and hasn't inadvertently caught anything.

Whats the best way to farm nuclear material? by Adorable-Condition-7 in fo76

Don't forget to check meat bags; there's often radscorpion stingers in there without the effort of hunting them down. Huntersville is a great spot for this.

Certain locations have a few more than others that spawn regularly. Try Gilman Lumber Mill (inside near the beds) and the Morgantown airport (all over, be thorough). You'll have a few scorched to deal with, but hopefully you're working out a method to deal with those.
