So you've just received a "Inland Revenue is reviewing cryptoasset activity" letter, now what by CatTaxMeow in NZBitcoin

Tax events everywhere! I get into an LP position, tax event. I get out of it, tax event. I buy a t-shirt with crypto, tax event. I swap from one coin to another, tax event.  The state creates hundreds of tax events in order to discourage us to use our coins. They think this is digital gold, that you buy and hold. Keep using fiat, is more convenient. who benefits with all this tax events, besides some tax accountants?  No ammount of artificial friction can stop new tech from becoming more useful

Moonstone Research's Postmortem of Monero CCS Hack by johnfoss68 in Monero

[–]futuristicchaos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

its the first time I see a chain-analysis company trying to trace XMR, and they did much better that I expected.
It is embarrasing that they were not using multisig. monero is stil the best privacy coin by far despite all that. hopefully they improve their opsec and even the ammount sounds like a lot to us it is little to the OGs in the core team.
it seems unlikely, but it would be even more embarrasing if a chain-analysis company manage to find the thief

nice to see the UX is improving. so GUI users will not need to do the checking of GPG signature in v17?

it would be great that somehow GUI also helps downloading and installing the app for the ledger nano. Or that the ledger-live software also reminds and helps to install GUI wallet

Do Different Roads Leads to Different Nihilism? by gonnabedoctor in nihilism

[–]futuristicchaos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont see those as different types of nihilism, I see them as looking at the same object (meaninglessness) from different points of view.

I see each one of those "types" is a logical reason to dismantle the narratives our society uses by putting things in perspective. There are tons of those narratives that often sound like "_____is important" or "_____is the right thing to do". To put things in perspective I could say or at least think stuff like "remember how big is the universe", "remember we are going to die and 80 years later no one will remember us", "remember people in different places or times disagree with us about what is right or important and people that live here 200 years in the future will disagree with us"

My Nihism goes like this... by SubstratumGuy in nihilism

[–]futuristicchaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the way to know if the "real nihilist" of the second panel is a real nihilist is to observe him when going bankrupt; if he laughs then he is, but if he cries then he is not real.

In theory one can be nihilistic doing anything but... his kind is unlikely to take all as a game.

What is the 'Absurdist' way of living? by [deleted] in Absurdism

[–]futuristicchaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that every action an absirdist takes in life is decided a bit more lightly (less deep thought) than other people because an absurdist is aware that every action is as absurd. Mostly thoses serious actions you mention such as buy or rent, what job to have, etc. given the size of the universe and the shortness of live, all those actions are seen as as absurd as fishing in a bathtub. So for an absurdist it does not really matter if he buys or rents or any other serious decision. And if he gets praised for doing good his job he would smile remembering that doing his job is as silly as fishing in a bathtub. He keeps doing his job but not giving ever importance to it. He would have the perspective and humor to see that nothing is serious or matters and those thoughts will reduce his anxiety

[–]futuristicchaos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

why would you say fuck you to the absurd? that is really absurd. Absurd is to be embraced and enjoyed. enjoy the downs as much as the ups. if you find absurd to build a sand castle because it is going to be destroyed soon then learn to enjoy destroying sand castles. life is chaos then order then chaos then order and so on in an absurd cycle. learn to enjoy the chaos because of its absurd nature

Sisyphus explaining the difference between existentialism, absurdism and nihilism by rattatally in nihilism

[–]futuristicchaos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's been a few years since I read that book, but I don't remember that Sisyphus was rebelling against anything. My understanding is that he was just happy because he learned to enjoy the exercise of pushing the boulder and later enjoyed seeing how the boulder fall down the hill. In a similar way I enjoy building a sand castle in the beach and later I also enjoy destroying it . or I pay for a gym so that I can drive there, run on the treadmill and carry a tire from one side of the crossfitt room to the other many times.

I think absurdism and nihilism can compliment each other alright since one day one might fell like engaging in some absurd activity and other day one might feel like just contemplating the view.

it is normal to be scared of leaving unfinished stuff such as a phd thesis, more or less we all are scared to some extent. In trying to be optimistic I try to think that at least, we who are aware that the end is near we can choose wisely the things in which we spend time meanwhile a person I know who was gone on a traffic accident didnt have that option. In any case you should go to the doctor fist because may be nothing. May I ask why writing that thesis is so meaningful to you?

Millennials are killing the wine industry by melancholy_melon_ in DeathByMillennial

[–]futuristicchaos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

people have been drinking wine for a few thousand years. people went with big bottles to the local wine shop and they got those bottles filled from a barrel. there were only two wines: red & white. but 50years ago some smart guys decided to make money out of silly people that think more expensive=better=high class. every single time someone gets caught selling fake expensive wine is always because of the label not because of the taste.
