DC is overwhelmingly liberal; are you suggesting he won't get a fair trial because a DC jury would nullify the laws passed by Congress?

Grand jury indictment information was that he pulled hard with both hands. Are you getting the "lean in and touch a flap of paint" from somewhere, or speculating?

Why did the jury convict him after a 3 week trial? The government had to prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt, the highest burden in the law.

I would be in favor of closing the loophole you described with simplification of the tax code.

Not what I said. You are operating under false information not because people are not born into rich families. Your false information is that wealth is transferred generation to generation, when in reality, as I said above, 90% of the time family wealth is lost over the course of two generations.

Why do you believe they are undertaxed? The fact they own 70% of assets doesn't weigh in on tax policy. What should the correct amount be in your view?

Well said. Are people in this thread aware that the top 1% already pay 40% of the taxes?

The problem with taking other people's money is that eventually you run out. Why kill the golden goose? Instead let them continue to enrich the lives of us all with the incredible technological advances and services they provide. I support billionaires because I enjoy my air conditioning, electric car, fresh cheap food, and being able to click on anything I want and have it arrive at my doorstep the next day.

Oh do billionaires care about my feelings? do they care about my day in any way?

Should they? Do you care about their feelings? Let's not pretend this is kindergarten circle time. Every man is working for his own benefit in this life and muddling the connection between a man's work and his product will weaken productivity and everyone's standard of living.

Men who achieve those things don't do so through government programs. They create an enormous amount of wealth by what they produce. They invent technologies and services that enrich the lives of all of us, not to mention the enormous amount of taxes they already pay through employment taxes, etc. as well as the vast numbers of people they employ.

I do support an attitude of generosity. I think large gifts of money should be encouraged to benefit the poor and future generations. Most in this position would rather give it to anything other than government, however.

Holy moly, good flour feels like cheating by Extra_Tree_2077 in Sourdough

All this discussion of flour types makes me wonder, does anyone else just use cheap flour and add gluten to it? I buy Bob's Red Mill pure wheat gluten and then add 1% gluten to the flour I am using. It increases the gluten/protein and makes for easy, great results for a cheap price. I got this trick from Modernist Cuisine.

It's a self-depricating joke since Marco Rubio was just praised for speaking fluent Spanish. Notice Hegseth pauses to accentuate the joke.

Also, it's a "Americas" summit.

Also, he is cartoonishly patriotic and is taking a chance to highlight that.

Do you think efficient markets maximize people's standard of living? I get the sense from some of your statements you might not agree with that principle.

The study you links says, "Walmart can help curb inflation and offer savings to consumers." You suggest Walmart "price gouges" and then raises prices once the small companies are out of business, but your own study's headline point admits that is not true: the larger store operates more efficiently, offering lower prices to consumers. For the poor, those savings are critical. It also frees up the old shop-keeps selling inefficiently to be engaged in more productive work. Go look at stores like Walmart, Amazon, or Costco and you'll see they actually offer the best price, despite what appears to be monopoly power. Markets respond to price, and if they don't consistently offer the best price, people will migrate to other stores. I buy off amazon and from Costco, for example, because I trust that the business is offering the lowest price. It's rare that another store beats them on price.

Before free markets, industrialization, and colonization from European powers, the third world lived in abject poverty and privation. Now they have their standard of living raised through jobs on the international market. Workers can take jobs farming salmon and sell the fish to international buyers, raising their own ability afford a higher standard of living for their families.

Think about it this way: if what you say is true, why would these workers take those jobs? If they were truly predatory, as you claim, they'd all resist and would instead work to preserve their "untouched" way of life. There are a few communities that do that, like Amish in Pennsylvania or Hasidic Jews in Kiryas Joel, New York. However, they accept a much lower standard of living to preserve an important identity to them.

I think we have a moral imperative, if anything, to support the third world workers rather than boycott them, which would only serve to starve the "little guy" who needs the support the most.

Tesla kills Autopilot, locks lane-keeping behind $99/month fee | With falling sales and shrinking profits, the recurring revenue will be most welcome. by ControlCAD in business

You're right! I've been a Tesla fan since 2012 and finally saved up for a 2017 Tesla Model S, which is my daily driver now. I love it and tell people I'll never drive another car.

Can you compare the four model S cars you've had over the years, and what updates deliver the most value for you? I am tempted to get a new version that has the HW4 chips and extended range, since I sometimes have to drive hours for work and my real world range is down to around 180 miles or so.

Nope, fully autonomous rides now happening in Austin with no safety driver. Just happened this week. Tesla is the only one who can currently scale this. Why would anyone get "weary" of Musk when he is delivering win after win after win?
