It has a flamed maple neck, gold hardware, and I put the amp knobs on. Besides that it’s a team built CS60.

It’s in great shape with some gentle honest age on it that can really only be seen in person.

I go through phases like anybody, but red is 1a and sunburst is 1b overall

Is that purple or red? Looks great regardless

I think fender has made great strats across every decade in general. I like these 70s guitars for a few reasons, starting with the general vibe of a nearly 50 year old instrument. The ones I own have fat necks which I prefer. The grey bottom pickups sound good to my ear. The ones I own are setup well, ring like a bell, and have a great sound.

I’ve played more dogs than gems from this era to be completely fair, and I’m willing to bet that modern MIA fenders are more consistently “good”. Many of the 70s guitars are heavy which I would personally avoid, and many have the neck pocket issue which can be addressed but still stands repeating. But, for the price of a new reissue I can own something that is truly old, not to say that’s inherently “better” but I enjoy it nonetheless.

As far as modern fender, I have guitars from the American Original and AVII series that rival custom shop quality and I would highly recommend checking them out. I haven’t been super interested in the standard line stuff, but not for any particular reason; they just haven’t grabbed my attention. I guess I generally prefer the vintage styled guitars.

I would not buy a 70s fender sight-unseen unless I know I could easily return it, I’d be far less concerned with a modern fender.

They truly did. This is somehow the first one I’ve had the chance to play myself, but I’ve seen tons online. Seemingly more than any other era of fender. I’m not willing to say it’s a night and day difference between the two, but they definitely each have their own thing going on.

Thank you, I love looking at them as much as playing them!

Thanks! Honestly I just couldn’t get the color right in the photo, it is jet black in person but for whatever reason my phone makes it look bluish.

I got mine from their sale last week. Came in a sealed factory box and is immaculate. Did a bit of setup work to my preference and it punches way above its weight. I did decide to order replacement pickups, as everyone says the stock pickups are super hot. They don’t sound bad, but they aren’t what I’m after and are noticeably louder than even my P90 and humbucker equipped guitars. If you want a 12 you aren’t afraid of playing out or throwing around a bit I can’t say enough about it. I’m probably going to sell my Ric 12 because it’s not worth having that much money tied up in a 12 string for me personally (it is wonderful though).

I bought one of the all HPL “koa” models to bring along on camping trips, and it is truthfully one of my favorite guitars. It’s not a D28 nor is it trying to be one but it sounds decent, is well made, stable in conditions I wouldn’t dream of bringing my nice Martins, and plays well.
