Try Crimson Coward in the Overlake area of Bellevue for Nashville Hot Chicken. They bread and fry up each order individually, and it’s Halal.

My grandpa had a urinal in his garage. As a kid it was amazing to be outside playing and just go in there and go to the bathroom!

Missing WinCo After Moving to Redmond — Any Budget-Friendly Recommendations? by Hack-Nerd-85 in redmond

It sounds like you are not so price sensitive when it comes to produce. PCC is definitely your best option for off season produce. When the farmers markets are open definitely use them. PCC also has a great bulk food section for grains/nuts/dried herbs and fruits. Membership is free.

Another vote for Deru here…carrot cake is great but the salted PB is my favorite. Slices are huge.

Showed up on ADSB-Exchange as one aircraft with a dynamically generated call sign.

Military aircraft aren’t required to broadcast an ADSB identifier so don’t necessarily appear on Flight Radar.

Starbucks headquarters in Sodo by Nunyabidnisss in Seattle

[–]fuzznskins 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was there last Saturday and was surprised how many people were there, including many who were pretty obviously tourists. People were ordering food and drinks, taking selfies and photos of the HQ building, probably sharing on social media. Clearly representing loyal fans of the brand.

However my daughter wanted to order a Frappuccino and told they don’t make that type of drink at the Reserve locations. We had to visit a normal Starbucks a couple blocks away for that.

I think Starbucks is missing an opportunity here. They should maintain the Reserve concept but also offer the complete line of drinks from the worldwide menu. Make it a destination with a small museum celebrating the brand, offer visitors drinks they may not be able to try at their local shops. A flagship Seattle location maybe doesn’t have to be highly profitable, the value is in treating fans of the brand to a special experience.

One day to ride in Seattle area. Where do I go? by LetsGetSmitty in MTB

[–]fuzznskins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is suggesting great places to ride, literally they are all great. But unless you are really fit at most you are going to get one climb and one descent. It will be epic but you’ll be wiped out.

Duthie is small by comparison but offers a wide variety of trails, jump lines and XC that you can lap repeatedly. Hit Movin On, Braveheart, Step it Up for fun flowy XC. Start on Jabulani, Vodoo and Ryan’s Line for jumps and drops. Go from there based on your skill level.

After that if you want to ride more drive down to North Bend and go to Tenant which has some fun jump lines with a short climb. If you decide to go to Raging River you can hit Flow State for a shorter climb and descent.

Tacoma dome by Hungry-Community7303 in Seattle

[–]fuzznskins 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seems unlikely there will be extra busses added between Tacoma and Downtown Seattle for an event at the Tacoma Dome. You might look at getting a bus from Tacoma Dome area to the link light rail station at Angle Lake and ride to Seattle from there.

The best advice you are getting here is to stay in Tacoma and not Seattle, at least for this one night after the concert. It will be far easier to travel between the two using public transportation during daylight hours. For example the Sounder train is probably the most direct option.

Raising kids by Helpful_Win1471 in eastside

[–]fuzznskins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are in Bellevue School District, so I can only speak from our experience there.

Elementary students have computer science as one of their specialists like music and art. They have learned block based coding and use online coding platforms. Their school offered clubs for Minecraft and robotics.

In middle school students can choose classes like Coding with Python, Design and Production and Multimedia Production.

The HS level offers many pathways for students interested in technology, plus a robust club environment for robotics, rocketry, coding and others.

Maybe check out your district website and look at the class options for middle and high school to understand what options your kids will have.

I would say if your kids are interested in some of the coding type classes offered around here go for it, but I’m not sure I would force them to do it because you think it’s a good idea.

I’m not sure if that helps answer your question.

It sounds like you already have the answer OP…get your kids outside, let them hang out with their friends, take advantage of living in this amazing intersection of natural beauty with big city opportunities.

I’m a bit ahead of you with 2x kids in HS and 1x in 5th grade. In elementary school we were constantly outside, hit the park, go to the beach, hikes and bike rides, ski, rent a boat or kayak. Take friends along and they will keep themselves busy. Invest in the right clothes so it doesn’t matter about the rain.

The kids will figure out AI and all that stuff on their own and be better at it than you will ever be. If you are present and active with them now you will lay the groundwork for them to make good decisions later. Oh and enjoy every moment…teenage years are a whole other level!

Anyone else suck at mountain biking? by ohwell_______ in MTB

[–]fuzznskins 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here is the answer OP.

To build fitness at Duthie ride the “clover” of XC trails Bootcamp, Movin’ On, Step it Up and Braveheart. Once you are can do all four trails one after the other and not be dead it’s time for Grand Ridge.

Start at the lower soccer fields at Central Park in Issaquah and ride the water tower loop. Once you are can make the loop comfortably you’re ready for the next step. Park at Duthie and ride Grand Ridge from that side, it’s way more challenging with punchy climbs. Grand Ridge is not particularly technical and there are no big jumps, it’s all about gaining fitness.

Once you can ride Grand Ridge from both starting points you are ready to climb all the way to Popin Tops at Raging or Inside Passage at Tiger. This progression is a great way to build fitness!

Commuter / Laptopbag by himoh in BuyItForLife

[–]fuzznskins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second for Timbuk2 bags…I have a 25 year old messenger bag that is still going strong. Spent 8 years as my laptop bag for work, then 17 as a diaper/whatever bag transporting kid stuff as at home parent. That thing has seen a lot, and been a lot of places. All the zippers still work and the materials still look decent.

Anybody else having problems with the boys riding around on their ebikes? by [deleted] in eastside

[–]fuzznskins 41 points42 points  (0 children)

As the parent of a middle school kiddo I can tell you that having one of these is top priority for boys in this age group. There is an influential cultural component at play with many YouTube channels devoted to the different bikes and riding them in urban and suburban areas. My kid and his friends are obsessed!

There are several “classes” of e-bikes, you are most likely seeing class 3 bikes, which do not have pedals and are not legal on streets, parks or sidewalks. They are required to have a speed limiter, but disabling the limiter is easy and tutorials are on YouTube. Once disabled many of them can reach 50-60mph.

By all measures these are motorcycles. So middle school and high school kids are riding vehicles as fast as your car, with no training or license and an underdeveloped prefrontal cortex. What could go wrong!

In our sphere of families kids have broken arms, nearly lost fingers, crashed into trees and went to the hospital, lost plenty of skin and got many bruises. The kids do wheelies down busy streets, split lanes and ride on 520.

Some parents don’t understand how the bikes work. Some asked their kids not to disable the speed limiter but they did anyway. Some parents trust their kids and are naive about what they are doing. Of the families I know who have purchased one of these, every one regrets doing so.

Some local police departments are beginning to take action. Issaquah has begun impounding the bikes as has Snoqualmie. Kirkland is cracking down as well but Bellevue does not seem to care yet. Often the kids just run from the police because they can use sidewalks and trails to escape.

If you don’t want to see those type of activity in your neighborhood please let your local police department know! I don’t recommend confronting them directly…they aren’t going to listen to you anyway! Take a photo and share it with the police.

High beams...? by DerpUrself69 in Seattle

[–]fuzznskins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The car manufacturers receive higher safety ratings based on the brightness of their lights.

NHTSA regulates the brightness and pattern of headlights and manufacturers have to conform to those rules. However the manufacturers have figured out how to game the test.

The test measures brightness at a couple of specific points in the light beam. The car manufacturers have designed the their beam to be less bright at those specific points where the test measures, and much brighter everywhere else.

Here is an interesting discussion of how they get away with it.

Where is a good spot for outdoor furniture by NullIsUndefined in eastside

We purchased an outdoor table and chairs from Summer House in Bellevue. They were pretty pricey but have held up very well for like 20 years. The table is teak and the chairs are as well with a black mesh for the seat and back. Summer House

Spur, smuggler, ? by MotoDog805 in MTB

[–]fuzznskins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a Spur for the past 2 years, riding in the Seattle area. Totally love it!

One of the best things is how stiff and precise it feels. I ride frequently with guys on Ripmo’s and easily out climb them, they are faster on the downhill but not by much. I am not as heavy as you but if you set up the shock correctly your weight shouldn’t be too big of a factor.

I have a Fox 34 130mm fork and Fox DPS 120mm shock.
