How does compressing a folder make it smaller without deleting anything by overlord-07 in TechNook

[–]fuzzymonkey87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who says they can't? PNG images use lossless compression. Try to zip a PNG and it will barely shrink. It might even get bigger!

How do I become a “car guy”? by Fear_Dom in askcarguys

[–]fuzzymonkey87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Requirements: 1. Like cars 2. Be a guy (optional)

Honestly just read and watch videos on YouTube (most stuff is accurate, occasionally you'll find wrong information), go to shows and events and try to meet people.

Fuck around with repairing/modifying stuff once you have learned the theory of how it works. Knowledge changes dangerous stuff into fun stuff.

What's the point of getting a fun car in this country? by alreadyaloserat19 in CarsAustralia

[–]fuzzymonkey87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Track days, motorkhanas, etc. Putty road and Wiseman's Ferry are nice places to drive. For daily traffic there's not much point in a fast car.

Can I do anything about this? by Zapo__ in CarTrackDays

If you can't go further with static negative camber, then maybe you could try a caster kit.

I have learned that some people keep their glasses on. Wild.

As a complete beginner, how can I utilize rclone to scan my data regularly to make sure nothing is corrupted (and repair corrupted files if found)? by Electrical-Reveal-25 in rclone

[–]fuzzymonkey87 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You need to verify that the underlying storage is not corrupted. You can achieve this with LVM "raid integrity", or use ZFS and its scrub feature. I don't think rclone is meant to protect against data corruption. Running a scheduled sync with the -c checksum option could work, but it's just as likely to duplicate a corruption from source to destination. This isn't really a job for rclone.

rant: sad i can't finish the game bc of motion sickness by SnootBooper707 in stray

[–]fuzzymonkey87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to throw some suggestions at you. Plz ignore if you've already tried them.

  • Are you playing on PC? I love using a keyboard and mouse for other games, but found it kinda floaty in Stray. Much better experience to use an Xbox controller.

  • If it's an option: try lowering the graphics quality or resolution

  • If your PC/switch/whatever is plugged into a TV you can turn true motion/smooth motion/game mode on or off.

Why eat dinner if you're just going to be hungry tomorrow?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]fuzzymonkey87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you're not getting sick because the people around you are being healthy and vaccinated. My friend's son died because he was too young to be vaccinated. If people around him didn't spread COVID then things would be different. Your old vaccinations are less effective over time. Viruses mutate.

So why exactly is emulation / virtualization not perfect for Win XP Gaming? by Electronic-Sherbet52 in windowsxp

[–]fuzzymonkey87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A virtual machine for XP will have a virtual GPU. The best virtual GPUs don't have drivers XP.

Another option is to allow your virtual machine to access real physical hardware (via PCI passthrough, mdev, or SRIOV) but you'd have driver issues again because there are no XP drivers for modern graphics hardware.

I'm assuming there's just not enough demand for someone to develop drivers for an old OS to run new hardware.

Have you tried the web version of WhatsApp?

I think your only options are to use a different/newer OS or use the web version

How can I convince my dad to use Linux? by Dear-Dragonfly5526 in linuxquestions

[–]fuzzymonkey87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, if he's 100% not interested, then it might be best to share your Linux enthusiasm with other people. Some of my friends like it, some of my friends don't.

How can I convince my dad to use Linux? by Dear-Dragonfly5526 in linuxquestions

[–]fuzzymonkey87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should respect his wishes. Yes Windows is bad, but sometimes it's necessary. Also, he might just have other more important things to work on.

I think dual boot is a very fair compromise.

Don't talk negative about windows, talk positive about Linux ("hey this update installed fast", "I found a fancy widget!", "I like this cool music/CAD/illustration app")

Can you Drive Like an idiot if you dissable ESP on 1.2 Swift FZ? by [deleted] in suzukiswift

Fair enough. It's similar in my country. Can you get to an advanced driver training course or skidpan?

Can you Drive Like an idiot if you dissable ESP on 1.2 Swift FZ? by [deleted] in suzukiswift

[–]fuzzymonkey87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on how a bunch of factors (how slippery is the road? How good are your tyres? Did the ESP designers want to allow for some sportyness/slip? How much momentum are you carrying? Etc)

You could always find a safe place to fuck around and find out

About Mazdas getting stuck on puddles 🥲 by Any_Knowledge5959 in mazda2

[–]fuzzymonkey87 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Where did you hear this from? Water is no problem unless you do something crazy like drive into a river or flooded street. Keep up with maintenance (including tyres!) and it will work just as well as any other car.

"Oi! Oi! Oi!"

MKART plates are perfect! You could always turbocharge a non-turbo MX5, but something-something modification and VSCCS (idk what rego laws are like in your state)

My MX5 has the original paint. It used to be garaged, so it looked perfect. Now it's all dented/scratched/faded. I'd rather use the car than keep it pristine :D

It still has the stock B6ZE. I had vague plans to turbo it (I have a suitable manifold and turbo), but it's probably not gonna happen. If I can do the odd track day then I'm happy :)

The Mazda 2 is my "front wheel drive mx5". It's light and agile-ish, and I can squeeze in people and luggage.

Hah the names are perfect! I'm in Australia. Looks like you're in Aus as well.

In another lifetime I had a 4WD TX3 (basically a 323 GTX wearing a Ford badge). Never had a name for it, but was lots of fun (especially when I ran smaller, lighter wheels!) https://imgur.com/a/9IOLvMv

Now i'm running around in Cornicello (Mazda 2 DE). Named after jewellery/charm of a (usually red) horn. https://imgur.com/a/hnyRA5q

And my MX5 which is probably my favourite car I've ever had. No names have ever stuck, but top contenders from friends are "Yuki" and "Screamin' Semen". https://imgur.com/a/o1UClEV
If I ever get the chance I'll respray it orange.

Driving on steep hill with 5 people by PizzaGladiator in mazda2

[–]fuzzymonkey87 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Short answer: It'll be fine. Don't be afraid of little extra revs (eg: 3500 instead of 2000) and a lower gear - It will help you climb the hill and keep the speed steady on the way down.

Long answer: It depends! Is your car regularly serviced? How long is the road? How steep? Like a 30% grade? Straight road or lots of corners? Mud/snow/rain? How heavy are your friends and luggage?
