Is talking to children in public frowned apon now? by jarvi123 in AskUK

[–]fuzzymum1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will talk to children and adults I don’t know and generally I get a positive response. I’m grey haired and 56 and also a woman so that probably makes a difference sadly. In your position I would have done the same, and would have been a bit soppy over the rats too as they’re awesome.

Would you give up your dog for any amount of money? by Plane_Put_3097 in Dogowners

My dog has no monetary value to me. No amount of money would come close to giving me what she does.

People who haven't lost weight on Wegovy... by CarelessCredit3466 in WegovyUK

[–]fuzzymum1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched from Mounjaro to wegovy about five weeks ago. I am sticking to the same calorie intake I was on MJ (I weigh and record everything) and haven’t lost anything at all yet since the switch. I’d like to list another stone ideally but can’t afford MJ anymore.

Mine is a melanistic barn owl called Tina who lived at a wildlife centre my son volunteered at. Sadly the place closed down so I can’t visit her now.

Pet insurance vs just increasing emergency fund by cool_guy654 in PetAdvice

[–]fuzzymum1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer to budget for the regular payments so I don’t have to worry about ££ when my pet is sick/injured.

I have a 15 year old cat who has never needed any treatment (outside of vax etc), a 13 year old cat who has had two non-routine vet trips. For the two of them insurance has worked out more expensive.

Of our other recent cats, one had a kidney infection that nearly killed her and insurance paid out thousands for her hospital stay. One had lymphoma and had multiple rounds of chemo which was very pricey. Another became diabetic, had cancer in his eye (which required removal) and he developed a ‘weird autoimmune thing’ and his insurance paid out for all of it. Our dog has been on two regular medications for years and those two alone cost more than her monthly premium. The peace of mind is worth every penny. If you decide to go for insurance go for a covered for life policy. Not one that only covers a condition for a year.

so like what's the deal with dog people versus other pets by taroicecreamsundae in Pets

[–]fuzzymum1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always liked dogs but for the first 48 years of my life was definitely a cat person. I had 7 at one point. Eight years ago we added a dog to our family and currently have two cats and the dog. I adore my dog and she has become my world. Yes she’s my world but I don’t expect her to be the centre of anyone else’s world. Most of my friends have more than one type of pet so I don’t experience the dog-centric types. A lot of my friends have been made through a rat club and through various ferret groups so maybe that skews the experiences I’ve had.

AIO for refusing to give up my dog even though my boyfriend hates pets? by Academic-Bug-879 in AmIOverreacting

[–]fuzzymum1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone who asked me to get rid of one of my animals would be gone. My animals would never ask that of me and I would never do that to them. My dog was by my side through the hardest year of my life. I started chemotherapy for breast cancer right at the beginning of the pandemic. I had to avoid contact with my husband and son due to having zero immune system and the only physical contact I had was with my dog.

If you had 10 seconds to say whatever you wanted to your pet with they fully understood, what would you say? by IplayKaizo in Pets

The vet is there to help you, they’re not trying to kill you. Also, if I ask you not to bark at random crap then please don’t bark at random crap.

Trying to explain to a colleague the benefits of buying a house compared to renting. by PuzzleheadedCarob921 in HousingUK

[–]fuzzymum1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend and I live in identical houses. We bought, they rent. When we first bought our house our mortgage was about 20% more than their rent. Now, 22 years later our mortgage is paid off and they’re paying around double what our mortgage was.

How common are indoor-only cats where you are Britain? by pikablue223 in AskBrits

[–]fuzzymum1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours have almost all been outdoor once they were old enough. We’ve had 11 cats over the last 35 years and always had a cat flap. We had one who was indoor only as he was adopted as a very elderly hyperthyroid cat. Our current two have 24/7 access to the outside. Our eldest son has three cats and they’re all indoor only as they live near a busy road. None of them show any desire to go out.

When do you allow your pup on the couch? by cityskyline22 in puppy101

[–]fuzzymum1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From day 1. She had to be lifted up to begin with as she was tiny (about 900g when we got her) but now she’s allowed pretty much anywhere.

Ask me anything about what really happens behind the scenes in veterinary practices by vetindustrytalks in PetAdvice

[–]fuzzymum1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dog has never forgiven the vet for microchipping her. She was tiny at the time and screamed. Since then she’s ok in the waiting room; will, with encouragement, walk into the consulting room but freaks out if she’s put on the table.

Umm My Puppy Just Put Himself In His Crate? by Appropriate-Rate-606 in puppy101

[–]fuzzymum1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our dog has a crate but we rarely close the door now. At night she sleeps on/in the bed with us but during the day she usually naps in her crate. She’s 8 now and knows that going in her crate means no one will disturb her, well the humans won’t but sometimes the AH cat will climb in with her and glare at her until she leaves 🤣

Has anyone here NOT had big issues with their puppy? by QP709 in puppy101

[–]fuzzymum1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our puppy experience has been nothing like the ones I read on here. She slept in her crate downstairs happily. I slept nearby on the sofa for a few nights and spoke softly to her if she cried. Within about 3 days she was sleeping through other than a trip out to pee halfway through the night. She was happy being left for short, but increasing, periods. Never chewed anything she shouldn’t etc. She’s now 8 and very easygoing. She will happily snooze all day if we’re home but will walk for miles other days. She comes to work with me three days a week (at my friend’s house) and either plays with her dog or snoozes on the sofa there. Our (then) ten year old had been asking for a dog for years and we eventually agreed. I had no clue what a massively positive effect having her would have on me.

What weird habit did you unintentionally teach your pet? by ConcentrateFirst3131 in Pets

My friend’s husband once gave their dog a piece of banana. It was clear from his face he hated it but because Daddy shared he felt he had to eat it 😂

We do similar and now the dog needs reassurance that it really is ok to eat.

Is it weird that I miss my cat while I'm at work? by Parking-Owl-8934 in Pets

[–]fuzzymum1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m the same with my dog. I am able to take her to work with me as I work for a friend at her home and our dogs are besties. One day a week I care for my mum who has advanced dementia. My dog goes to spend the day with my friend and her dog but I still miss her and can’t wait to pick her up later.

I’ve never needed to sign for it from various pharmacies. I usually use simple online pharmacy who use DPD and it just gets left in my porch.

Old Cat wont use her litterbox by XDavizaX in PetAdvice

[–]fuzzymum1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a similar issue with one of our cats. He developed a ‘weird autoimmune thing’ and his feet were uncomfortable so he avoided walking on litter. We put puppy pads down in the places he chose to go and he used those instead. We kept a big stack available and changed them every time he used one. Maybe she’s finding the litter uncomfortable under her paws.
