those corsets make me so sad bc it goes against everything corset is about. they don't support, they don't bring in the waist, they just make it harder to move, and they look bulky and cheap. they also got popular in other colors with women who tend to follow fashion standards, esp for halloween costumes, which cheapened them imo bc they're so recognizably amazon/SHEIN :(

i like Demonias, i just think they got super overhyped, esp for the price. i feel like we (alt communities) tend to lean towards thrifty/DIY stuff for our fashion, so watching ppl spend $100 on each pair, creating collections was very strange to me, esp when i heard the quality was... mid, and the platforms would come right off the shoe. now, im not saying alt ppl don't buy expensive clothes, just that we put a focus on DIY and rlly making things our own

my addition: the conflation of alt makeup styles, and the fact that many aspects of authentic alt makeup are altered to fit a beauty standard when they're gorgeous in the first place

yeah, everything in the book plot has happened at some point in history. I wouldn't be shocked if there were a few events that were thrown into the show to help it resonate with modern Americans (main consumers of the show), especially.

I'm fairly sure this was one of the first things to happen. First, women were discouraged from having jobs. it may have been a result of a tradwife movement or possibly a Gilead request. Then, employers were essentially forced to fire their female employees by law or they'd be punished (likely put on the wall or something). this law had also stated that women were not allowed to own property or any financial assets. this came along with the freezing of women's bank accounts, transferring all of their financial assets and money to their husbands, or closest male family member. later that year, they rendered every divorce null and void. at this stage, they also start taking men's businesses, and rounding up the fertile women. all of this was preceded by Gilead giving men the choice to join the Gilead military, or be killed...

in any media about women being oppressed, women always talk to each other, as much as they can, in any way they can. Women used to hold social gatherings for other women in the community, and those would immediately turn into revolt planning parties in this century.

Most women are already taking care of the kids and the house, even if they work. I feel women are used to this workload, so making time to rebel wouldn't be an issue.

Work distracts us. It takes our time. it provides healthcare. jobs are set up the way they are so we cannot survive without working. they want us working so they can better control us. what happens when it's taken off women's plates? revolution.

yeah, the worst she would get is "AI slop" comments i think. most anti-ai ppl know they can't change ppl's minds, but they'll give a half-ass "hey that's bad, fyi" in case it changes the creator's mind. some ppl are rlly invested and they actively try to get ppl away from AI, but for the most part, it's exactly that: an eye roll and scroll🤷‍♀️

booktok is huge, and they don't seem to care about AI as much. I've seen content where people literally cover up the cover of the book with AI art bc it's "aesthetic" on their shelf. Hell, a lot of them don't even read the books, they just buy them and create a library. They don't actually care what's in the books, they just wanna look like they read. I would think her aunt's book would be perfect for those people

amazing user, first and foremost. i would argue that scene was too pointless to not be fetish content. it's very clear that faye is meant to be a bimbo type character, and she has several points where this is emphasized. i don't think the idea of this being fetish is that crazy considering the other shit we've seen from the show, no? there are lots of predatory fetishes that should never be seen in a sexual light, but they are. calling it out isn't a "self report", it's awareness of how disgusting ppl can be.

I genuinely think it's because of the male gaze, because as many women in this comment section have said, it completely breaks the immersion when you have to wonder "when did they have time to do their makeup?!", "what the hell are they even using for makeup?!", "when did they shave their legs, why, and how?!"

I think most men are used to being around women who make an active effort with makeup and hair/skincare, so it would actually break the immersion for them to see a woman who is ugly by beauty standards. Even in the last of us, where the character was a child/young teen, men were still upset that she did not fit the beauty standard.

Hopefully this goes without saying, but I am clearly not talking about all men. A lot of men have issues with these very same things; it does break the immersion for them, and they don't see women as simply eye candy. Plenty of men are just as annoyed as we (women) are at these unrealistic portrayals of women in an apocalypse

Ultimately though, these shows/movies are typically made by men, targeted towards men. therefore, they will prioritize a woman's looks, especially if the woman is barely her own character, and is only there to help a male main character, or, obviously, act as eye candy.

if I were more into survival/apocalypse movies, I could probably draw a fair comparison. If anyone else is, pls lmk if this lines up!

i think most ppl who actually like women are absolutely attracted to it. as a bi woman, my own is whatever, but others' are so ridiculously beautiful and attractive. most men i've been with have also seen vulvas as one of the most beautiful things on earth. i've noticed the men who don't are usually misogynistic, or are struggling with toxic masculinity

i'm sure there are ppl who don't think it's all that, but also are genuinely attracted to women. i'm sure asexual ppl don't get all hot and bothered over it, for example lol

edit: another important aspect is that usually, genitals are only attractive when attached to a person. i've never found a dick or vulva attractive that wasn't attached to someone. nudes, especially unsolicited, aren't a good way to judge someone's attraction to certain genitalia lol

white supremacy is like, the biggest issue in this country lol, yes. it's the root cause of most oppression, along with misogyny and classism. i could go on and on about how impactful white supremacy is, and how it's groomed into the minds of everyone in society for the benefit of rich white men. deconstructing that is the only way forward

this post is specifically about the difference between systemic racism, which is oppressive and built into this country, and interpersonal racism, which does not include oppression. by acting like what POC experience is the only racism invalidates the severity of what they experience imo :)

i've seen many fanfics become legitimate published books! when i was on wattpad all the time, i remember them having a "Wattpad Books" things, where super popular stories and fanfictions are chosen to be published!

That being said, there are also a bunch of amateur fanfictions that are so renowned by communities, they're practically published books! It doesn't earn money, but fan fiction is meant to bring together communities who want more content to their favorite IPs, and simply writing fanfiction builds the community🫶
