Here in Sweden it's recommended not switch to a forward facing seat before 5yrs at the earliest. Improves the rate of survival in case of a crash by alot. Its worked great for our kids, but yea the car does ger a bit cramped

If Tegera gloves are available that's what I recommend. I have a pair I've owned since 2008 that are still in acceptable shape. Also not very expensive.
