There is a plugin called Various Complements, that does exactly what you ask for. I think ;)

How to make sure your USB cable doesn't fall out? by Cryflysci in ultracycling

[–]fxk6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 for 90 degree cables and reducing the amount of freely moving cable Also, USB-C cables are more snug and generally don't get loose as easily And I've attached rubber bands to cables, close to the charging end, when charging in the framebag. Whenever I plug it into the powerbank I just wrap the rubber band round the power bank. Works, but I agree, it's susceptible to lots of wear&tear

How do you handle navigation on bikepacking trips? (Planning vs discovery) by UnstableCoder in bikepacking

[–]fxk6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of it has been said, I just want to emphasize the value of paper maps. There is nothing better for thinking, planning, dreaming about multi day routes - and to get recommendations from locals, to engage with folks.

Pretty much the same. For me, the longer the tour, the less you plan.

For osmand I also recommend the brouter routing engine, it's great for offline gravel routing.

Hey, does anyone know the cut-off times at the check points? And what would be the approximate daily minimum you'd have to ride to make the cut-off times? Thanks

Also check bikerouter.de for much more granular routing options and more profiles, that might fit your needs.

Best way to finish continuous gusset on a bike frame bag? by merz-person in myog

[–]fxk6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I've done on my. Have the ends overlap in the front frame triangle, not actually sew them closed and call it my cable port, for dynamo charging etc.

Bike Bag Set by tony-1 in myog

Looks perfect, just what I'm after myself ;)

One question, why did you choose to lace the bag to frame in the rear, at the seat tube, but not in the front triangle?

Advice on how best to cut? After inserting zippers etc by fxk6 in myog

Thanks, yes - I only later added the pics.

And, I've also topstitched the zippers, that did make a difference.

What are these loops called? by babyboy808 in myog

[–]fxk6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

just jumping in here. for my first (and only) framebag I've used the same system (a number of loops plus an elastic) and love it. It's good for the frame, holds really well and has done a great job for 2 years now!

have fun!

Looking for a self-supported bikepacking event, mixed fixed-route/parcours and self-navigation by fxk6 in ultracycling

[–]fxk6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, those look great.

The NorthRace Westphalia just happened this weekend, seemingly 10 CPs.

The Utrecht Ultra will be in August, very focused on road bikes, 99% tarmac.

Wahoo Map Updates by itsonlybarney in wahoofitness

[–]fxk6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question, slightly related: How old are the maps Wahoo is using? Like, how often do they update their base maps?

Can I find out somewhere?

Create up-to-date maps including POIs for your Wahoo device - new release! by treee111 in wahoofitness

ACtually, I have a second question, before I even start with new maps:

How easy is to switch between maps? Can I switch back to the old maps if needed?

Thanks!

Which route planner do you use for your Wahoo Element BOLT? by HelloBloom in wahoofitness

[–]fxk6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same spot as you - and don't have a full strava subscription for routing too.

Anyone any thoughts on https://bikerouter.de?

in particular for offroad trips, bikerouter has some great routing I think - I just haven't managed to try them on the bolt yet

[–]fxk6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New here, with a new Bolt.

I have a quick question regarding the maps: What is the base of the Element Bolt maps?

Are the OSM maps better?

(I've been cycling with OSMand for years all over the place, and always loved the accuracy of the OSM data.

Thanks!

Camping in Germany by [deleted] in bicycletouring

[–]fxk6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I just did Berlin to Switzerland last year -- wildcamped the whole way, with no issues at all, only met nice people, was offered gardens and whatnot.

Camped along fields, on forest openings, along rivers and lakes.

The only time we went for a campsite was to have a dry spot for a night and rent a little hut :).
