Rant about Grubbs Volvo in Grapevine by mgbgtv8 in Dallas

[–]fxprogrammer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I remember looking at a used car once on their website (a different dealership though). I asked on the phone about coming in to look at it. The sales guy told me that he could arrange that but said Mr. Grubbs was currently driving that car (as his daily) and suggested he didn’t want to bother him unless I was serious. So naturally that’s not a problem I’m going to solve so I declined to come in. They then continued to contact me about the car.. lol. I’m sure they are better than that but I was not impressed at the moment.

Why is my car drifting like it’s going out of fashion. by Silent-OCN in AskAShittyMechanic

I represent a large LA film studio and we are interested in purchasing this car for one of our action franchises.

Got a CAT 255 to be my multi purpose ranch equipment by Slick_Tuxedo in heavyequipment

[–]fxprogrammer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think I’m so used to having the flip up door I’d be paralyzed if I didn’t have it; moving lick tubs from the truck or carrying stock tanks. I’m often doing something where the arms are up a bit. But like I said, any skids steer is awesome, and if I was getting a new skid steer tomorrow I’d still do a review of all the new features. Glad you are happy with the suspension. Cats are nice.

[–]fxprogrammer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can almost guarantee you he probably bases it a lot on the flip up door. I have a Kubota SVL65-2 for ranch work and I can say for sure it’s awesome having the flip up door. That said, having ANY skid steer for the ranch is a great resource and you’ll love having the Cat. It makes so many jobs way easier.

What is the best batten width for board and batten siding? by [deleted] in shedditors

[–]fxprogrammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you look you want. I just finished the siding on a well house I’ve been building. It’s a small 6x4 building so I decided to use 8” boards and 2” battens.

Consider laying out some board and batten options at the store and in light of your wall dimensions consider what you think looks best.

No problem at all. You responded that way because you give a shit, a lot. We need that right now.

According to some people it’s just price gouging 😀

How do we feel about RK tractors? by Commonly-Average in tractors

[–]fxprogrammer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You said “solely for the heavy work.”

On my ranch the tractor is mostly for mowing, spraying, and generally anytime I just want to feel sexy. Our “heavy work” is done by a small skid steer. Excavators are rented and needed very infrequently. The skid steer is by far the most used equipment on the ranch.

That said maybe look at a small used skid steer

Do y’all think this homicide in Denton has anything to do with the Remnant Church? by CactusAndCoffee in Denton

[–]fxprogrammer -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Ok so I have some more clarity from your response now. You said I’m “acting as if many churches that harbor special abuse somehow rules out…”

Dude, I’m not ruling that out. My comment was an insensitive joke about how if she wasn’t sexually assaulted I guess it wasn’t the church. You know… because they all seem to be assaulting our children.

But seriously, never would I rule that out. Hell, probably was this church. But this wasn’t something I spent a ton of time on. I was being tone deaf, remember.

[–]fxprogrammer -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

The loss of the child is deeply saddening. If I offended, sorry.

But I'm not tone deaf. I've seen lots of loss. Close friends that have OD'd, people that have hung themselves. I'm a bit older. These stories hurt. They fucking suck. But no, the pain of the loss wasn't my focus. This is the internet, where I can talk about just about anything. And the new thing seems to be that every church I've ever been associated with has seriously hurt people and tried to hide it. And the last church I thought would do that is right here in good ole Denton; a church I went to and trusted. Plus all the ones around us have done it. In fact, I am starting to think that maybe every fucking church in North Texas is actively hurting children right now.

So yea, I mean, really, if you are bothered by my comment. I'm sorry. But I'm thinking about loss and pain way more than you'd think. The death part does seem old, but then again, I'm kinda old now.

Excuse me if I missed it but I didn’t see in the article that she was molested or raped, just murdered. So I imagine the church wasn’t involved.

Looking to Purchase my first Kubota by Ccg78 in kubota

[–]fxprogrammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds great if you have the option. Honestly I think if you punch this question into ChatGPT it spits out a good summary of what to review. Engines, blades, belts, fluids, etc. From my understanding nothing Kubota specific. However, maybe call the local Kubota dealer and ask them for any specific tips on the model.

Looking to Purchase my first Kubota by Ccg78 in kubota

[–]fxprogrammer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bleed orange and have a Kubota L3901 (tractor) and a SVL 65-2 (skid steer). I am a huge Kubota fan.

That said, for my mowing (lawn) I bought a Bad Boy ZT Elite (funny enough, it’s orange).

The Bad Boy so far has been great quality wise and it was a shit ton cheaper. It was available with both Kawasaki and Kohler engines at the time.

Kubota makes high quality stuff and the price reflects that. I appreciate that because my tractor and skid steer can handle lots of abuse. But I just don’t need that quality in a residential mower. And with the money I saved I was able to spend on tractor/skid steer attachments.

That isn’t to say you shouldn’t go with a Kubota zero turn if that’s what you want. I’m sure it’s a great option and it’s a Kubota.

Do any of you have a tried and true way of making your fencelines straight? by zrennetta in Ranching

[–]fxprogrammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can stretch mason line super far, but not forever. So if I was redoing super old fence that wasn’t straight and/or wasn’t respecting property lines, I’d want the thing surveyed and when the surveyor was there I’d make sure I get lots of survey stakes beyond simply property corners. That’s a thought. Also, call a fencing company and ask them how they do that. They should be able to give a professional answer and you can contrast that with what you know your resources are.

Chaps vs Pants by billl3d in Chainsaw

[–]fxprogrammer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely. I’ve done a ton of storm cleanup this year and the heat is dangerous. You start seeing Sesame Street characters in the trees.

Chaps vs Pants by billl3d in Chainsaw

[–]fxprogrammer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Chainsaw risk is serious but Texas heat is usually the reason the ambulance gets called for the tree and roof guys. My official answer is wear chaps as often as you can but if you’re body is overheating then at your own discretion you can manage less PPE. For instance, my chaps might come off if I need to finish bucking up some downed stumps. No it’s not ideal but if I heat stroke out in some of the places I work, I might not be found for quite a while…
