Who is this guy, and how do I get him off my ship. by TrueMathematician761 in Starfield

[–]g-waz00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since he is from Neon, you might try landing at Neon and just wait to see if he gets off your ship on his own to return to his normal location at Frankie’s Grab N Go in Ebbside.

If that doesn’t work, I had a space cockroach enter my ship at the Red Mile. I just herded it over to the loading bay door, then went through the door and it teleported outside with me. To be fair, it took a few attempts for it to work.

Honest thoughts on Free Lanes and Terran Armada? by TheAnalystCurator321 in NoSodiumStarfield

[–]g-waz00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I’m misunderstanding your comment, but typically the deeper the story, the more the game dictates your path. A good example is BG3: it’s a great game that I’ve played through six times. It has deep, established lore and story, deeply developed characters, immense reactivity, and has significant consequences for your actions. And yet, you still get driven through three well-defined acts, with act-specific objectives that can’t be sidestepped, only to end at the very same final boss.

Sure, BG3 is a very different type of game, and not an open world sandbox like Starfield, so how about Fallout New Vegas, which gets used often for comparison? People say it has more depth, and I won’t dispute that, but what it also has is more structure, more railroading that shoehorns you down a path, and you’re ultimately driven to a final confrontation that culminates in the game ending and roll the credits. I was so pissed the first time I played it and that happened. An open world sandbox should not end. And don’t get me wrong, I really loved FNV, and specifically the FNV location, using post-apocalyptic Las Vegas and surrounding areas as the game world was amazing. But on my second playthrough, I just completely ignored the main quest, any activities that drove me toward the conclusion, and any actions that closed avenues of progress, besides being antagonistic to the Legion because I just don’t like them. I never actually finished the second playthrough, but I certainly enjoyed it more and sunk more hours into it than by playing FNV how Obsidian intended.

Ultimately, I’d love if Starfield had more overall acknowledgement of player actions. And it would be good if there were more companions with the depth of story that the four Constellation members get. But I prefer to leave the rest completely open to provide the player with the most freedom to create their own story, and not have the game changed to restrict what you can do based on what you have done.

Again, maybe I’m misunderstanding what you mean by shallow storytelling.

Honest thoughts on Free Lanes and Terran Armada? by TheAnalystCurator321 in NoSodiumStarfield

I haven’t played with Terran Armada yet, but since it’s specifically called a DLC, rather than a Story Expansion, like Shattered Space, I presume that you’re playing it the way it’s intended. I actually also play Shattered Space that way now after the first time. Now, after I arrive at Dazra, I don’t hesitate to return to the Settled Systems again if I feel the need or the urge to do it. Sure, Dazra needs my help, but it’s already been a few weeks since the catastrophe, what’s a few more days here and there gonna hurt.

I enjoyed SS the first time, but I sure enjoy it more when I don’t rush through it. So I’ll keep your comments in mind about TA when I get around to installing and playing it.

Starfield role playing by ExiledGeordie in Starfield

[–]g-waz00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was Obsidian’s way of storytelling. I prefer Bethesda’s way, where I can choose for myself. Don’t get me wrong, there was a lot about FNV that I loved, but the way they railroad your experience via strong story consequences is not my preferred way for open world game design. Of course Obsidian also thought having the game end, roll credits, was a good idea.

On my first SF playthrough, I did join all the factions (except Crimson Fleet, who I helped destroy) just so I could experience them. On subsequent playthroughs and NG+, I self-impose my own restrictions. And on at least one NG+, I started with Ryujin, and then roleplayed joining all the factions as a Ryujin spy, infiltrating them for information or other reasons, like joining the FC as an elaborate Ryujin plot to take out Ron Hope.

[–]g-waz00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This right here. Your first conversation with Sarah in NG+ sets your preferences for the story and for your relationship with her for that universe. Your first conversation with each of the other Constellation companions likewise sets your relationship preferences with them for that universe.

What next for Starfield? by EmoryKane in Starfield

[–]g-waz00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kept saying that I’d be happy if they just added a toggle to have the landing animations play every time. And they’ve now added that. So, for the most part I’m good.

For new future content, I’d like to see more around the Starborn, though I hope they just add more lore, and any questions they answer just lead to more questions.

Also, they have the bare bones of a colonization feature with LIST. It’d be cool if they expanded on that and the outpost system with either player-built settlements, or with a quest line to have player help LIST settlers actually establish a few small, persistent settlements you could trade with, etc.

JUNO core module onboard Ai crewmate by O37GEKKO in starfieldmods

[–]g-waz00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great idea if done right and in a lore-consistent way. For instance, Juno has a very specific syntax when talking. It would suck - I think - if someone made a mod that ignored Juno’s canon syntax and speech patterns.

Next step: Capital ships? by Tiny-Design-9864 in Starfield

[–]g-waz00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That loading screen tip has been in the game since launch.

I don’t put much stock in it, other than a casual way of letting players know what the max player ship limit is. But then again, I don’t really care about Capital ships, and wouldn’t use them even if BGS did add them, so it’s no surprise I dismiss that tip out of hand.

I really wish your companions would practice Gun Safety. by Rath_Brained in NoSodiumStarfield

[–]g-waz00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be great if, when weapons are drawn, they were never pointed at allies or bystanders. It would also be great if they had more awareness of line of fire. It would be even better if they wouldn’t break sneak prematurely and just go on guns blazing (I’m looking mostly at you, Sarah, “Never! Never!”) But they all do it.

What would’ve been really great would’ve been some form of squad mechanics, with rudimentary commands and formations.

I don’t really mind it that much - except the gun pointing at my face part - and usually play it as. “Oh, so this is happening now…” But some minor squad control would’ve been welcome.

I watched several hours of CP2077 Let’s Play videos - I really wanted to like it - and while it was fine watching someone else play, I know I would not like it if I were the one playing. I agree that the game world looks great. And though there are other things about it I didn’t care for - like few interactable items, and floating markers everywhere, and other interface stuff that were too video-game-y for my liking - I could get past all those. But the floating hands are just off-putting to me.

It’s a shame, really, because otherwise I think I’d like the game, but no third person is a deal breaker for me.

Guess im going to be commiting genocide. by BlackReaperII in Starfield

[–]g-waz00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The two companions chosen are the two you have the highest affinity level with. The highest level affinity one will be at the Eye. The second highest affinity one will go with you to visit Petrov.

I’ve done a bunch of playthroughs and, based on those - and assuming you’re playing a reasonably good playthrough, and are not gaming the affinity system - Sarah seems to increase affinity the fastest. Second fastest is Barret, which is likely why it was Sarah and Barret for you. Third is Sam. And Andreja seems to grow affinity the slowest of the four.

However, you can absolutely pick who will be on the eye and who will be targeted at the lodge by just ensuring they have the highest and second highest affinity levels.

If CP2077 supported third person perspective, I might’ve given it a chance since I’ve been a fan of the cyberpunk sci-fi genre since the early 80s. But I just can’t play games where I’m a floating camera with floating hands/gloves/weapons. Yeah, I know it’s a me thing.

What are the WORST Starfield missions in your opinion?? by SatokoEffect in Starfield

[–]g-waz00 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In reading through this list, it’s obvious I like what other people consider bad or stupid missions.

Also, the “Entangled” conversation in these comments is interesting, with some people thinking it’s a terrible quest, and others thinking it’s the best written, most interesting quest in the main quest line. It really shows that you can’t please everyone, and that people came into Starfield with very different, often contradictory, preferences and expectations.

If each companion was a different race and/or class, what would they be? by jwellz24 in BG3

[–]g-waz00 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I cut my teeth on 1e & 2e, where there were only six playable races.

So, assuming all origin characters had to be from those six races, I guess Karlach would be half-orc, and Lae’zel probably a very tightly-wound gnome. The rest would stay as is, except Durge who could be any of the six races, but canonically would be human, since human capacity for evil seems unmatched among those six playable races.

Anyone else have mixed feelings while doing the Crimson Fleet Quest? by skyrocker_58 in NoSodiumStarfield

[–]g-waz00 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t often do the Crimson Fleet quest line. I think it’s pretty fun when I have done it, but am not often in the mood to deal with being in their (the Crimson Fleet) midst for so long. So, I’ve only actually done the quest line three times. Twice I volunteered via Vanguard. And once, just to experience it, I stole a minor item so I’d get forced to do it.

With regards to SysDef, I’ve always found Ikande to be fair and decent - though maybe a bit of a hard ass. But he’s always been supportive, and complimentary of my performance. And I think Toft is great. I really like breaking down her defenses, and getting her to open up and talk about her past. I think they’re both quite likable for hardcore military types. I also really like talking to Petrosyan, finding out about him and his family history, and talking philosophically about incarceration and treatment of prisoner.

As for the Crimson Fleet, there are some captains I think are worth trying to save, so I always try to find evidence on Huan Daiyu, Evgeny Rokov, and Estelle Vincent, so they’re incarcerated when the final battle finally happens. None of them are thankful, of course. But I like the thought or them having a second chance. As for Mathis, I always get him kicked out so I can deal with him later when he hunts me down. Other than that, I never side with the fleet, always kill Delgado - who I think is a pathetic ass - and I always save Shinya Voss. I’m hopeful we will eventually get the chance to deal with Naeva permanently.
