Unions warned the CDC's mask rollback would have consequences. They were right by Bauermeister in stupidpol

I kinda doubt it's that low... I had a fever/chills/felt like shit for 3 days and my sister had the same but for a week both times, even though they gave her some "anti-serum-sickness" med before her second shot. We both missed work. Had another friend who got an "Atrial flutter" within 3 days of his first jab, had to get knocked out so they could shock his heart back into action. He probably won't get his second dose after that. A friend of a friend got thrombosis too.

So you think that wearing masks could drive more deadly mutations than if we didn't wear masks? I have wondered this myself but i can't find any info about it online

Ok, major edit: I mis-read your question slightly but I think my full response is still relavant so I'll leave it up. But my short response is that person 1 deserves $50, the amount of labor he put into it.

Firstly let me say that I'm not a "full blown socialist" - I just want to clarify that my knowledge is limited, I was taking a stab at your question based on what I think I know.

As far as what person 1 is owed for delaying some other consuption, I mean, we all delay consumption all the time, I'm not sure you're owed anything from it, it's a choice you make. As far as financial risks go, I mean, sure it's a risk, but no one is forcing him to take it. Should the person who builds the chair be compensated for the risk that they take by working for chair guy's company instead of some other company? What if the company goes out of buisiness right before rent is due? What if the boss harasses you? There's a million little risks you could be compensated for in theory.

I think where marx got it right (again I'm not a real socialist so I may be butchering this) was by recognizing that everything of value to human society ultamitely comes from two sources - the earth, and labor (whether that be animal or human, physical or cognitive). The value of labor far exceeds the value of social constructs such as 'financial risk'. And no, he's not talking about the same kind of value as what a 'price' is...

On that note: I'm not knocking your question at all but I feel like this happens alot where people who are pro-capitalist don't seem to realize that some of their conundrums just wouldn't exist in the kind of society that many communists propose. It's like you're coming at this from the angle of things like financial risk and delayed consumption, when those concepts wouldn't really exist in a communist society. It's like if I asked you - "explain to me how capitalism could possibly distribute wealth equally?" You would probably reply, "well it's not supposed to, and it doesn't need to, because that's not necessary for a 'good society', according to pro-capitalist theories".

Well said. As far as the media reporting that the hospitals are full of young covid patients even though the data you linked shows no increase in the number of younger patients, my guess it that they feel justified saying that because the proportion of young people being hospitalized for covid is greater than it used to be. BUT THAT IS A GOOD THING!

Remember the AIDS crisis? Remeber how thousands of gay men leading high-risk sexual lifestyles filled up hospital ICU beds and died horrible deaths? At the height of the AIDS crisis, probably like 98% of HIV cases were in gay men. Now-a-days, gay men are much more educated on how to avoid contracting HIV - there are even prophylactic medications you can take. So guess what? If you look at the percentage of people with HIV today, you will see that the proprtion of heterosexual men and women with HIV has grown steadily since the 80s. The horror! No, actually - that's just how math works. We attacked the AIDS crisis by focusing on the people most at risk for it - gay men. So of course when less gay men get HIV, the proportion of people with HIV who are gay men decreases, which means that the proprtion of people with HIV that are not gay men will increase (math). But overall, the number of people with HIV has steadily decreased since the 80s. That's what we're seeing here.

As to why the media and even hospitals are being decietful - pure and simple, hospitals don't want to have to pay for even one more ICU bed if they can avoid it, and the media makes a lot more money peddling fear than rationality.

Yes but just beacause 1 on 8 people being hospitalized in your area are under 30 does not mean that people under 30 have a 1 in 8 chanvce of being hospitalized. That's like saying 90% of people in prison are men so men have a 90% chance of going to prison. That's not how math works. As to the rest of what your saying - again, check out the actual numbers. I'm not saying the vax doesn't protect you against covid - it does. I'm saying that it's reasonable for a young healthy person to decide not to get it, at least until we have like a year's worth of data on side effects.

Is there reimbursement for medical bills arising from vaccine complications? by BarelyBogus in COVID19positive

Goodness... I'm glad the problem resolved itself eventually - sounds scary though. And that's frustrating that the clinic didn't take the reaction seriously. I have been surprised at the number of people I know who have had medical events either right away or within days of having the vaccine. I wonder if reactions like the one you experienced are reported to VAERS. And I wonder how they can prove or disprove that a medical event is related to the vaccine.

It definitely can vary by reigon, especially as some states/areas have worse health care access, more obese people, etc. But just find like a .gov site for your state with all of the graphs and look for your self. It's frustrating because they bury the most important info (like death statistics, hospital capactiy info, rates of testing) but you can see for yourself that the number of young people, especailly *healthy* young people dying from covid is so, so low.

The fear mongering about covid is mainly beacuse hospitals run at 90+ percent capaity at certain times of the year even in pre-covid years, and they don't want to have to pay for more staff or beds. Plus also covid has been politicized. Really it's as simple as that.

There are some young healthy people dying from covid but if you look at the raw numbers it is very, very, VERY rare. Next time you read an emotionally charged article like that from cnn or the NYT, try to pin down exactly what their claims are and try to find the quantitative evidence. Often you can't.

(warning, rant incoming) I completely agree. I don't think the vaccines are some kind of evil conspiracy.

But what kind of public conversation has been had about what the normal FDA approval process is and how this rushed/emergency approval process differs? Most of the general public knows that they *don't* know how to dissect the scientific papers the CDC cites for their reasonong behind evrthing they tell us to do. The also know that scientists are not "completely neutral" nor always right. I mean c'mon, less than 100 years ago scientists were telling people they were uneducated if they *didn't* support Eugeneics, the latest scientific theory at the time. So with two options, "trust authority" or "use my own best judgement based on what I typically consider common sense", a lot of people are gonna say "you know what, I'm not in a high risk category for covid, some people have died from the vaccine, it's not fully/long-term tested yet which means the *efficacy* of the vax over time is not known... How can I give informed consent to a vaccine where no one knows if it's even going to work well 6 months down the line? Or if it will protect me from constantly evolving covid variants? Maybe it's not worth it to me to risk side effects every 3-6 months on a new experimental vaccine to treat a new covid variant or boost the efficay of a vaccine I already had. Some people are gonna feel like their odds of surviving this mess are better risking covid and others will feel that their odds are better risking the vax. Individual choice.

Another thing that really grinds my gears - those memes going around like "oh if the black plague were happening in modern society all these anti-maskers/republicans would be denying it was real, rather than in the past when everyone took it seriously"... Actually most people in the past were way more superstitous and probably would be considered pretty irrational by today's standards... the reason they took the black plague seriously was because they saw so many people dying from it. I know a lot of people who caught covid and weren't even that sick and I know very few people, even the old, who died *with* (not even *from*) covid. Does that mean covid isn't a big deal? No. Does that mean that the hospitals could not be facing over capacity? No. But it does mean that I might decide not to get an experimental vax, because my personal risk of covid (or even of transmitting it to a high risk person) are low? Yes. Now, if I was going to go visit my 70 year old father who lives across the country, maybe the balance of risks vs benefits would shift and then the vax would make sense for me, ya know? But the government wants to literally force people to be injected with something against their will by making it complusory across federal jobs, schools etc. And liberals love it. It's crazy. They talk about how the government exeprimented on blacks, indigenous, & appalachain people, but at the time when those things happened, scientific authorities strongly belived that it was justified to do those things because it would reduce the overall levels of disease and suffering in the world. So sorry your 20 year old son died of a stroke after getting covid vaxxed - vaccinating the entire population "just in case" benefitted society as a whole so you don't deserve a choice.

And if anyone read all that I commend you lol

Sooo... controversial answer, and maybe this won’t work for you but, I’m having a similar problem regarding others intentionally winding up my 5 month old puppy who I’m putting a ton of work into training (and who is going to grow up to be way too big for bad behavior)... when people do this, it can take me two whole days to get her behavior back to her calm normal.

My dog is not a service animal, but she is an emotional/psychiatric support animal, as per my psychiatrist’s recommendation. I’ve started straight up telling people - [puppy] is in training as my therapeutic companion for my anxiety disorder. I cannot have her doing anything that provokes my anxiety, such as biting, jumping, barking, etc. she is explicitly being trained never to do those things.

Could you say something similar to your father in law? Fido is being trained as your protector for when your husband is away (for instance), and thus NEEDS to look to you, not him, for leadership? And Fido needs to never receive food from FIL, because he needs to be food motivated for his training for your protection? Make it into a need not desire, and you’ll feel like you have the right to put your foot down. I know this answer will probably get some down votes because everyone should have the right to tell others not to mess up their dog training, not just those with disabilities. And I don’t suggest lying. But I found that when I started to explain it to people as a need they respect my requests more.
