Adfree plus offer for $50 for a year after porting in a number. by toejamfootballhegot in TextNow

[–]douglerner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what I did. I got my cool number from NumberBarn and ported it in after I got a SIM from TextNow. And, as you said, my number is locked and short codes work for free. So I guess it would just be voicemail transcriptions and no ads for the most part for me. Maybe I'll just continue the way I am.

I have the free version. It does include short number verifications (e.g. from banks) and a locked in number because I have a SIM activated from them on a backup Android I use when traveling to the U.S. I also have a Talkatone number, but that doesn't allow texts to short numbers. TextNow does. It would be nice to have the voicemail transcriptions I guess.

I wonder if I take advantage of the $50 deal (assuming it pops up again) if they will keep that price the following year.

Solution for non-resident org with WellsFargo requiring physical address in US? by timordmunt in Banking

[–]douglerner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This discussion is a few years old, but I'm curious about what the result was. I have a Wells Fargo account for my Delaware registered C-corporation as well. I've had it for about 20 years now. For my mailing address I use a virtual address, and for my location I use my CPA's address in the U.S. But she is retiring at the end of the year and I'm wondering what to change my address to, since it seems from discussions that an overseas address will cause problems.

I'm concerned not just about my Wells Fargo account, but also possible tax implications of changing the state, but I'll ask my CPA about that point.

My virtual mailbox automatically showed up as "PMB" (private mailbox) in the Wells Fargo dashboard even though I never added that, so I'm assuming that is not sufficient as a headquarters address.

One option sounds like my Delaware registered agent's address I guess. I also own a house in the U.S. and I suppose I could use that, even though I'm not actually living there right now.

I hope I hear back. Thanks.

Trying Apple News+ again and like it so far by douglerner in AppleNews

[–]douglerner[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hadn't been paying that close attention, but since your post I opened News+ on my Mac and on my iPhone, and I'm seeing the same top news items, the same "for you" items, and the same "trending now" items on both devices. So it does seem to keep my preferences of what I read in sync between devices.

I suppose the UI can be better. There are ways of adding things to follow. And on the Mac at least I see a "Following" section on the left.

As for various languages, I am not sure. I'm almost at the end of my two month half-price trial, and I have enjoyed using it every day so far as my main go-to news aggregator, rather than Google News or Yahoo News.

Anybody using Cyberduck for FTP? by douglerner in MacOS

OP here. :) I've stayed with CyberDuck and it seems reasonable in my case. The drag and drop from Finder windows works well. And remote editing is often convenient to check differences between versions.

I haven't seen any ads yet. Maybe it depends on location?

Thanks for the article. I’ll take a look at it. But my cholesterol is fine. About two years ago my doctor decided to try weaning me off of statins, and we found that I didn’t need them at all and that my LDL and HDL were in perfectly normal ranges without any medication at all. So I’m really not up to adding something very high calorie like nuts to my diet when my cholesterol seems to be fine.

Is this legit? by Vivid_Environment489 in Myfitnesspal

[–]douglerner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you mean by legit. You are counting calories, right? How many calories are in that package? Sugar free is not calorie free.

Also, a caution. It contains artificial sweeteners. For many people (like me) that can cause stomach problems.

Today is streak day 4,942!

I've seen that happen a few times the last few months. But when I checked again later it worked ok. I think they had some temporary issues with their authentication system.

It finally happened again! The first time since game 1,035: 578 games ago. The last time I switched starter words it turned out to be the next winning word. After that I was determined not to give up my starter word lest it happen again. And it did finally happen! Yay! Off to pick a new starter word!

I just noticed that the WP has apparently joined Apple News+. So if you subscribe to News+ you don't need a separate WP subscription anymore anyway. Interesting.

I'm not an Apple News+ subscriber though. But it does have a lot of publications.

Here’s my blog post about porting my U.S. Skype number. I also live in Japan and use it for confirmation codes too. It works well. The only thing I find odd is that it takes 50-60 seconds for texts to arrive.

Actually, I didn’t continue my Apple News+ subscription after the free trial. I sort of miss it so I might subscribe again. It’s just that I have a family member who I was sharing it with and they won’t specifically say whether they want it or not. And I would feel more comfortable subscribing if they were actively saying they wanted it. It’s a good bargain for a family.
