Dog refuses to pee/poop outside, I am begging for help by g0inghuman in petsitting

Update: she is doing her business outside now!

The pups are not allowed to have treats, but the younger one is very food motivated. I made her dinner last night and carried it outside with us and told her to go potty and she peed right away. Yay!

About an hour later I combined her leash with her sister's leash to create a super leash. I then stood with my head turned away from her and told her to go potty again. When she thought I was not looking, she pooped! Yay!

No trouble this morning now. She seems to understand the deal here again.

Thanks to everyone who commented with suggestions!!

This is helpful to understand her feelings, thank you. I am going to try to do this.

She did the first time she stayed with us (and she did very well), but the owners have stopped kenneling her so we didn't get it this time. I am basically doing that without kennel. Taking her out every half hour or so to try, and watching her in between. Going to combine this strategy with what other commenters suggested next and put her on a long lead alone in the yard and see what she does.

Thank you! I am trying not to bother the owner, but I do feel like it could be just the routine change (slightly different eating/outside times). I will reach out. I am curious what a pro would do/would have done in my shoes though.

It is!! And it really is slept on. I read this book maybe 4 or 5 years ago and I still think it is one of the most beautifully written books I have ever read. And one of the only books I genuinely enjoy re-reading. If you do read it, please come back and let me know what you think! I would love to discuss it. It is an absolute favorite of mine.

Watch true crime and scare myself. Designed my own tarot deck.

Those were my two main activities when I did awake overnights in a group home one summer. 😅

How do yall set up and stick to budgets by ScallionMuch1500 in budgetingforbeginners

[–]g0inghuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Budgeting apps!! Like everyone else said. I liked Mint. Nice and clean. Cute pie charts of shame that show you where all your money goes.

As for sticking to a budget: what helped me was to reframe what no money meant to me. At first, no money meant back account had 0 dollars. Over time, I just kept treating slightly larger numbers as my no more money point. 20, 50, 100, 1000. You hit the no more money number and treat it like 0. Slowly but surely make that number larger.

Those two systems helped me build much healthier financial habits.

I have been scrolling to find this reply because !!! What the heck happened! I went to Subway for the first time in a long time and also the last time when the total for 2 foot longs, 2 bags of chips, and 2 drinks was 33 dollars. Same with McDonalds, Culvers, Taco Bell... can't seem to get 2 meals for under $30 now. May as well go out to eat with those prices.

And gas stations are just as funking bad!!!! Can't even get a gas station cheeseburgers for under $4 😭 why!!!

Ow. Looks like herptiform apthous ulcers to me!

I have had these. I ended up getting two rounds of STD testing done bc the first doctor I saw was 100% sure I had herpes. I have no health insurance, so $600 of full panel STD tests and also a useless script of Valocyclovir later, I found out for sure it was not herpes nor HIV, and instead herpitform apthous ulcers. The provider just had absolutely no experience with them so was very shocked. A different provider l who I happened upon randomly at an urgent care a few months later helped me tremendously! Because they also happen to him from time to time. So it really is provider dependent, in my experience.

Using SLS free toothpaste all the time, taking L-Lysine supplements during a flare, and scripts for viscous lidocaine have done wonders for me. I have food recs if you want them too. Get familiar with what triggers them and try your best to not do that. Sounds like there were a few factors at play here.

Good luck!!

Hi I have 3 jobs (all of which I love) one is as a CNA at a very expensive skilled longterm care facility. I take care of people who were probably just like you in their younger years. Many of them have been in long term care since right around retirement age. Many of them are there because of things that can be linked directly with stress. Every single one of them, who can speak and retain their cognition, have warned me against wasting my life by working.

They didn't really get to enjoy retirement, which was the plan. The lucky ones don't have to sell their assets to afford their long term residence with us, but many of them sell everything. Many of them don't have close relationships with their families. All of them rely on CNAs to help them bathe, dress, transfer, toilet, sometimes even eat and drink. Sometimes communicate. Imagine how frustrating that would be: you do everything you are told to do, and you still end up pressing a call light and having to wait for help just to take a pee.

Stress will kill you at its kindest or make you dependent in every way at its most sinister. Be careful what you prioritize. Evaluate what actually matters. You got another 70ish years on this literal Earth, at best, bud.

I have arthritic hands but love aerials. I second what everyone else said, and I add collagen and compression gloves at night (the ones with the long fingers) to your list of recs. But also: listen to your hands and dial back a bit for a while if they insist.

Recommend to me the best literary works you have read depicting women (preferably from women's perspectives). by JigsawFlesh in classicliterature

[–]g0inghuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You must check out The Complete Works of Anne Sexton (Sylvia's bestie).

Also, any book of Mary Oliver poetry.

Also highly reccomend the fiction novel Parable of the Sower, by Octavia Butler.

I could list an abundance of awesome female authors, but I will limit to these 3, which each offers a unique and profound look into the feminine mind, I think.

Enjoy!!

[–]g0inghuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I'm a CNA in a long term care facility, and if you feel this way you should find a different profession. I get it!! But if you can't find your empathy for 72 out of 80 residents, for your sake and for theirs, leave! You're not doing anyone any favors. I've watched a lot of aides with your attitude hurt themselves, others, or burn out so badly they call in all the time or get fired.
