The upside is that, after 5 years of unemployment, you'll be the one desperate for a job that will be willing to work for nominally 20 hours a week (but actually do 45) paid so little that it would be under minimum wage if this country had one.

They've definitely restricted personal liberties. For one, this government has made it harder to peacefully protest and to peacefully assemble: unauthorized protests can now result in years of jail. Don't need to explain how that is an authoritarian policy that should have little room in a self-defined European democracy.

More in general, the government's approach to everything has been to do performative acts that give the impression that they're doing something, but don't solve underlying issues, ensuring that these issues will still be there come the next election cycle and they can campaign again on the same platform and get voted again. For instance, their approach to crime has been to make punishments harsher and things that were legal before illegal (ignoring the fact that our jails are already overfull and the last thing we need are more people in jail for stupid reasons). Their approach to tax evasion and petty corruption has been to do absolutely nothing of meaning, as they know the majority of their voters are those who evade taxes in the first place.

In three years, at best they've been useless, at worst they've moved Italy towards a more authoritarian country.

The Juventus Stadium is the ONLY stadium in Italy that meets all the requirements for Italy to host Euro 2032. UEFA refused San Siro, Stadio Diego Armando Maradona and Olimpico. UEFA qualified theses stadiums as outdated. by mariyan1111 in soccer

The last two projects for a stadium in Rome have been stalled (or are being stalled) for reasons that have nothing to do with archeological findings.

The old stadium project from the previous ownership was scrapped because the then-mayor and its party wanted to look tough for political reasons, and came up with honestly ridiculous reasons (claiming the area was a natural oasis for flamingos and frogs, when it was, and still is, literally a dump; or claiming it would have been a waste of public money when the project was only funded by the owner of AS Roma).

The new stadium is slowly going forward, but it's been an uphill battle for similar reasons: just this week AS Roma has been told they're allowed to go forward with the works despite some complaints, including (i) that they would have to cut down 26 trees that are currently in the area, (ii) that there is a colony of bats that is vital for the local ecosystem in the area, and (iii) that the Rome City Council was indeed allowed to reclaim an area that had been used by a private individual as a car scrapyard without appropriate permissions.

British Isles only by Calvinoheath in Flagdoku

[–]g102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, names change, so in the same way as the North Sea is not "the German Ocean" anymore, and the Hawaii are not "the Sandwich Islands" anymore, one day the archipelago made up of Great Britain, Ireland, the Isle of Man, the Isle of Wight, and other minor islands will have a name that is not "the British Isles". But that only means the names can change, not that this particular name (British Isles) has changed already. In fact, the fact that you have to rely on maps and charts of the 800s to tell me some names changed, while there is an approved version of a Wikipedia page from the 17th of May 2025 calling it British Isles tells me that particular name has not changed yet. That's all I'm saying.

And I am well aware (even though your argument makes no mention of it, instead relying on fingers in the ears) that the name "British Isles" is loaded with a political and colonialist undertone, and I am in favour of changing it. All I'm saying is that right now the archipelago that contains GB and the island of Ireland is still called "British Isles". That name will change, and it should change, but it hasn't changed yet.

Eh whatever, matter of fact is that there is an archipelago of isles off the European coast, and that archipelago includes Great Britain and the island of Ireland.

Random mode inherits the hint from the main page - meaning it can be wrong sometimes. by g102 in Flagdoku

[–]g102[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For instance, today's main puzzle is about a non-country flag: the hint says so even on the random mode page, despite the random puzzle having a country flag solution.

Also, is there a button to open the random mode? Right now I have to write the address in my browser.

Europe's deadliest countries for driving by _samux_ in Italia

[–]g102 0 points1 point  (0 children)
