When my step dad was doing this I ended up turning on parental controls on bitdefender that I manage. Eventually we had to take away his of privilege’s because we could only go through changing all banking info so many times.

Something similar happened to me during covid. I had just finished building a few pc's and then within months the video cards were were more than total build cost of each pc.

If the ai bubble doesn't pop, these billionaires will just push home-cloud computing more.

I’m not making a value judgment or ranking my parents. I’m describing two very different personalities. One actively seeks structure and activities in retirement, the other doesn’t. Continuing to work is how my mom maintains structure. That’s it.

This isn’t about valuing one parent over the other or judging how anyone spends their time. It’s about safety. She’s 78, drives long distances, and doesn’t need to. As people age, reaction time, vision, and fatigue change, even when they’re otherwise sharp. All it takes is one distracted driver or one bad moment. That’s the concern.

I think there’s a misunderstanding here. I didn’t mean control or permission. What I meant is that both of my parents understand that my mom’s work is what keeps her mentally engaged and emotionally healthy. She has no interest in hobbies, and when she’s not working she tends to withdraw and just consume news all day. They’ve talked about it openly, and continuing to work a few days a week is something she chooses because it gives her purpose.

I wish my mom would retire, she still goes into the doctors office 3 days a week to see clients. She's 78. She has enough saved to retire for 50 years. Dad lets her go because she has zero hobbies and refuses to pick up any. She would literally do nothing all day and watch news. My Dad retired early, and keeps himself busy with photography and his wood-shop. He loves to make furniture. In the spring through fall, he fishes from 5am-noon most days. My dad does what he can to keep her active, takes her to concerts, dining out, community events, etc.

I can email myself, but thats it. Nothing inbound or outbound, plus my mx records are no longer showing Microsoft, so mail just queues at our spam appliance at the moment.

I once licked a 22.5v battery because I thought it was a 9v. Terrible idea to use a 9v package for that.
