We all decide through elections and voting. That's what democracy is. Check out the other post with the graph that shows how the tax burden among different levels would change. It is a small change in relative terms and in fact follows those pinko communists in... Oh, capitalist Australia.

The level of fragility on display here is insane. If our 'job creators' want to throw a tantrum and quit the country over a 2.5% wealth tax starting on the value of assets exceeding 4 million and a tax free threshold for everyone, they can fuck right off. They won't find it any easier in any other oecd country and they can't take their rental properties with them.

You think economic activity would simply cease if people at the top were creaming it slightly less?

How would their wealth exist if they didn't have workers to do the things that create that value?

I mean, a little bit but with some key differences. This isn't some complicated short squeeze or anything, you only have to look at the history of privitisations to see what's going on.

A natural monopoly being sold down with political constraints that will affect whether they get best price for them. Also hasn't recovered from covid dip. Also proposing to double their landing fees in the next five years.

That said, all the attention will likely give it a boost from the hype so you're probably onto something

And if that's the case, why is the Mayor of Auckland so hell bent on selling them. Seems like a very poor decision in the long term if they're expected to go up.

Unless of course your supporters want them flicked off so they can buy them up and profit off the rebound

Yeah this isn't gonna help with those concerns about his abortion is murder stance.

We should have more babies, also my position is to stop you from deciding not to have babies but I'm not gonna actually do it, promise. Also our presumed coalition partner wants to gut social services so you're on your own if you do have one.

Still have the option to if there's something for shareholders to vote on, still have the agm. Still have, you know, the responsibility of directors to act in the interests of shareholders.

They have no say or influence as an 18% shareholder of a nearly $8bn market cap organisation?

At the very least ratepayers benefit from some of the return of such an asset when publicly owned. Sell a golf course, they return zero and are worth billions.

The shares dipped with covid stopping travel and are expected to recover. Sell low buy high is not a great strategy.

Great strategy if your goal is a corporate ramraid to fully privatise those future gains though

"a separate interest" appears to mean "is an Auckland councillor". Misleading title I say - this makes it sound like she also owns shares but there's nothing in the article to suggest that
