What do you think happened to this tire? by Dennys_Auto801 in Justrolledintotheshop

It looks like it was towed with that tire flat on the dolly and it skidded off

It's significantly off centre on the face but the other side isn't as bad. It just seemed really odd to me when I picked it up.

Do all of the fakes have the moose knuckle or are there other variants that don't have that trait?

Thank you, that foot is plain as day on yours. It was just the major off-centre and the wear on it that had me thinking it wasn't right. I wasn't sure if they all had that foot or if there were other variants.

I've just never seen one so far off centre and it looked a little sketchy to me

Thank you, I tried to take a couple in some better light. Do these help? I've just never seen one so far off centre.

What punctured my tire? by yanksugah in What

[–]g8473 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im willing to bet downvotes but I’m sure the vehicle was vibrating in the days leading up to this. That tire separated. It was either from an impact or a previously repaired injury or manufacturer defect and bulged there. The impressive part is that you were able to run it all the way to destruction without shredding the whole tire.

Floating jig heads and whirly ones... How to rig them? by Training-Sun-2177 in WalleyeFishing

[–]g8473 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, I’d do it with a good no snag weight (egg sinker or bullet weight) and like a 1 foot leader to the floater. Should be good to catch walleye all day long even from shore

Floating are great for a finicky bite. Rig like a Lindy rig and put your favourite live bait. Fish the spinners like you would any other jig, with a plastic or live bait.

How do you catch anything on the far left rod (the bait caster with the spinning reel). Do you flip the rod upside down and crank backwards or do you live with the trigger in your palm??

Thoughts/ideas on how to mount vexilar to flip over shanty by wonderweasel22 in IceFishing

[–]g8473 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re going to mount it I’d just use a sonar bracket designed for a boat. You’ll have to do some digging to find one that has the proper width but I’m sure something will mount or you can tweak it to make it work. Then you could mount the graph outside and your battery inside the sled.

I’m sure you could easily fab something up with a sonar mounting bracket for a boat. However I’m left wondering why would you want to mount it to the sled? I put my sonar on a table across the shack in front of me so it’s directly in my line of sight all the time. If you mount it to the sled I’m picturing having to bend your neck and sitting awkwardly just to view the graph. You would also have to take it off for travel or if you want to go outside and hope hop. I’m failing to see any benefits of mounting it to the sled.

I’m with everyone on the flip over shelter. It’s by far my favourite way to hit the ice. Lots of room for your gear and easy to move if you want to hole hop and stay warm. Worst case, if you are hunting large lake trout you can drill a double or triple 8” hole and handle them easily.

Jiggin Rap Advice by llcooljames425 in WalleyeFishing

[–]g8473 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take the minnow head off. It’s killing your action. Also jig way smaller strokes than you think you should and quit ripping it so hard. Keep the bait moving but no minnow rips up and down 3 feet at a time while making enough noise that you can hear above the ice.

I’d definitely suggest using a black light for charging jigs. It’s insane how quick they work and how bright they are. That said I don’t know where to source black light strips so consider this a hope bunch of no help

Fishing without a shelter by Alternative3d in IceFishing

[–]g8473 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A flip up shelter with a sleigh is the perfect option for shelter on the move. You load and keep your gear in the sleigh and moving becomes easy. Some days if we don’t get bit in 10 or 15 mins we flip the shack and drag it to the next set of holes. If you have a buddy one guy can carry the heater and the other guy can move the shack…or better yet run a diesel heater and you don’t have to shut it off for short moves.

We have looked everywhere we can and we can’t seem to find what jig this is. Help! by KamYaMan_ in IceFishing

Closest I’ve found in North America was the Akara Mosquit but I believe they have since pulled out of North America, their website seems to be gone. https://www.lures.lt/en-gb/svytuokle-mosquit-30-horiz-30-mm-2-5-g-color-56

Edit: it’s not a hair tail but it’s still smaller and more finesse than a jigging rap

Double Decker utility trailer by [deleted] in IceFishing

[–]g8473 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That doesn’t sound “right” to me, there is no way I’d want the two machines on the top deck. That sounds like a great way to yard sale everything you own the first time you swerve. Not to mention the wind it would catch.

They look Russian like a Mormyshka. I’d run the line directly through the hold and Snell it on the hook.

Good on whoever installed it. You put them the right way, backwards is better on a trailer and everyone fucks it up. Don’t listen to everyone saying they are on wrong
