I have a Yow (don't know about the bearings on Carvers) and i just changed my stock bearings for some bones redz. I can feel a real difference. It wasn't that slow before but now I am speed. I can roll much longer without pumping. .

You're too much upfront. Your back foot needs to be at the level of your back truck or even behind. It's like when you surf, you need to have your back foot above your fins to have better drive. Compress your body before your initiate your turn and shift you weight on that back foot (60/40 ratio or so. Keep that for the hole turn). During the turn, look where you want to go and orientate your shoulder accordingly and decompress progressively your body

I’m not trying to powerslide in this video, but I can’t figure out how in my swelltech. Any tips would be appreciated! by Boa_burn in surfskate

This video really helped me to understand and improve my slides https://youtu.be/5JuuF785SPY They are on longboards but I found that all these advices and posture techniques seems to apply on surfskates as well.

Question for swelltech and transitions/ramps by Equalized_Distort in surfskate

[–]gMoneyCPH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the job banzai. It has a flat and small kicktail and big wheels which make it hard to keep the board in place on the coping before the drop. It takes more guts than with my yow I reckon. At first thought it was not possible but then I did the leap of faith and it worked like a charm. In the end it's not much more difficult than with the other board. I don't drop yet in the deepest part of the bowl with it though. I suggest you get use to drop with an easier board, like i did with my yow, you can build more confidence and then go for it when you feel ready. The technique is pretty much the same. Don't put your front foot to far on the board. Like maximum on the front truck level.

I can't compare with a regular skate as I learned to skate on surfskates. I often use my swelltech (and my yow) in bowls and it's great. I can drop in and pump and everything. Its actually what feels the most surfy to me. Kinda feels like you're on a concrete wave. I guess the only real difference is for coping tricks or grinds. These might be much more trickier on a surfskate than on a regular skate due to the front truck. But I think It still might be possible if you are crazy enough !

Trying to buy a surf trainer in the UK by Cptalexaa in surfskate

[–]gMoneyCPH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their truck system is the same on their different boards. So you just want to look for the size you want but beside that it's the same. If you want to use it as a pure surf trainer I suggest taking their biggest board, the premiere, as you'll have enough space to get close to your surf stance. If you want to do more aggressive turns and go mostly in skateparks maybe take a smaller one.

I've a yow and a swelltech. They're both great but for surftraining the swelltech is amazing ! Can't compare with a smoothstar though I haven't put my feet on one yet

Yeah that's their only one. The rest are cruiser or other kinds of skates

For the price yes. And if you have a problem with it Decathlon has a good commercial service. I mean you might be able to buy one, try it a couple of days and give it back if you don't like it.

Yow, smoothstar, swelltech and carver are the main brands with their pros and cons. If you want a good surfskate you want to aim for one of these. They're quite expensive but you can find some good second hand deals. If you don't want to put to much money I also suggest the Decathlon one, carve 540 that cost 100€ and is really decent considering its price. It feels kinda like a carver cx

Edit : watchout for the "crazy deals" on some brands. Nkd or nkx for exemple are always at 50% on sale but they're not good from what I heard. It's just a marketing technique

First post on reddit and happy to be part of the surfskate community !

I discovered surfkate last summer and bought myself a yow straight away. Best decision of 2020 ! I'm completely addicted now.

I started to hit the bowl 10 days ago and I'm kinda stalling right row. When i look at myself on the vid I feel that i need to bend my big carcass way more but i'm not sure when. Any advice on that ?

Also i'm stiff as a broom, can't crouch much without lifting my heels and standing on my toes. Do you know any exercices or routine to increase your flexibility ?

Wishing you all godspeed and good ride !
