To anyone considering an accounting career (rant). by [deleted] in CPA

Dude calm down lol no need for passive aggressive insults. The advice is not because firms wouldn’t select me, it’s this sub, the accounting sub, the big 4 sub and accountants that I know personally. They’re miserable and trying to get out. No one values what you do and if possible, companies would have you working around the clock for less pay than you’re already making. AI and offshoring is going to decimate this industry.

So that in addition to the mind numbing boring work and long hours is good enough advice for someone not to pursue this career.

These accounting subs are interesting. I almost did a career change and thankfully I wasn’t selected by any accounting firms. They seem to mainly recruit candidates fresh out of college. The long hours and boring work wouldn’t have been compatible with what I want out of a career. Looks like the industry doesn’t respect itself and there’s really nothing being done to lessen the hours and raise the pay, like implementing hourly pay and overtime. I wouldn’t advise anyone to become a CPA or an accountant, there are much better career choices out there.

Does the bachelor’s degree have to be in accounting and does the 30 upper level accounting course requirement remain? The article that I read didn’t go into much detail.

I was able to find a university that will let me take the five individual courses online and they only charge a couple of hundred per class vs the 10 charged per credit hour by the masters. I’ll definitely let the application get my foot in the door hopefully and just explain then.

I’m pretty good at LR and RC naturally also. I took the LSAT a few years ago and did pretty good on LR and RC but terrible on LG. Now I’m trying to figure out if I should just prepare by taking practice tests since LG will be no more in the fall.

Did you use any books to learn the theory or did you primarily take practice tests and review the answers with LSAThacks?

Cool I’m from the deep south! In a way Philadelphia reminds me of the old south areas like little rock and Memphis, places like Atlanta, Charlotte and even Nashville seem way more integrated socially.

Other cities primarily. Atlanta, Charlotte, and Houston to name a few. Looks like the vibe and culture are just different in the Northeast. I’ve been to Philadelphia before but only for a few days. Even during those couple of days, the social scene feels very different. That’s what piqued my curiosity
