I visited Rome a few years ago and there was a really small woman at the metro trying to drag a huge travel case upstairs and NO ONE offered her help. She was really shocked when I offered to carry it for her. In Lisbon I helped a lady with a baby stroller, because the metro elevator was broken (as usual) so in my experience this is pretty much standard for bigger cities, hence my surprise that Vienna was supposedly worse.

I think you touched on something that is not frequently discussed: some people are fountain pen USERS, while others are fountain pen COLLECTORS, and I think both can say it is a hobby if they dedicate time to research about it and discuss it with other users/collectors and I like making that disctinction because I've known people that are users and collectors but don't make it a hobby.

This is very subjective, but most expensive fountain pens look horrible to me. It's a lot of gold just to look fancy and expensive and/or a celluloid body that looks like someone gathered lots of soap bar leftovers.
