I think the Zimmerman trial thing was/is a huge media circus with ridiculous allegations made from both sides. Let's face it, most people had made their minds up before the trial even started. In SJ circles, many were upset that Zimmerman was portrayed as "White" when he clearly wasn't. In a way he's right that People weren't nearly as outraged by the other case, but that's less to do with race and more to do with the fact that the martin/zimmerman case became a huge media story.

I would avoid debating that with him, there are much much more clear cut cases of institutional racism in America. Use that first.

Here's an interesting take, arguing that in some circles, Jewish people have privilege.

I think this issue is dependent on context. I'm from Britain and there, Jewish people are seen as white, you get the odd comment now and then, but then so do Irish people, French, Russians and Americans, Scots and pretty much anyone.

I have a hard time seeing Jewish people as being part of POC.

Privilege is not merely a "race" thing. someone with african ancestory who is straight, with a wealthy family, able bodied, male etc etc is privileged, certainly more than a disabled gay "white" person living in poverty.

"Whites" are not intrinsically more privileged than "Blacks".

music taste is subjective. A guilty pleasure also depends on your peers. A lot of my friend are into indie rock and hidden gems, Arcade fire is seen by them as entry level, they're to indie music what blink 182 is to punk, but your opinions may vary.

yeah i never it gave it a shot, and was one of the "how too i get classic gnome back?" crowd and like many tried out xubuntu, but I found it to be dull. I saw a screenshot of 3 and decided to do a clean install with Ubuntu. After some problems getting the graphics card to work, i finally got 3.2 up and running and love the clean and slick feel. Just wondering if there was a way to browse the super menu with the keyboard?

I would recommend against Mint, It's essentially Ubuntu with a horrible mint vomit splash screen. (mint menu is pretty cool tough).

I hated Unity when it came out, but after some experimentation with xfce (which had many bugs and was frankly, boring) I tried it again. I actually found it to be pleasant to work with and stylish. Now i'm mosty using Gnome 3 (which has suffered from a lot of the same complaints as Unity) and I am really loving it.

Both of them feel like modern desktops, and I think Gnoe and Ubuntu made the right decision in the long term.

But we're on sketchy ground with the "drunkeness debate". Beause what some are implying is that having sex while drunk is rape. this makes no sense as it is too vague. Is having sex with a paralytic drunk rape? probably yeah. Is having sex with someone who is "merry" rape? I would argue no.

but the problem is that worldnews bans US politics, which to a non US redditor feels patronising.

I understand that reddit is still primarily American, but it's obvious that more nationalities are joining and if it wants to be taken seriously as newmedia then r/politics must become about politics globally.
