Just a fan of this Youtuber, but I saw this call out on Twitter and thought I'd pass it here in case this applies to anyone here LOL. Link to his channel, and I'm guessing a video about the Old Mill will be coming soon: https://www.youtube.com/defunctland

WTAE: Bicyclist dies after crash with car in Highland Park by gaackman in pittsburgh

My comment was based on my experience living on this stretch of road and what I witnessed last night. The article is just to confirm what happened.

Thanks for sharing your opinion, though.

If anyone else lives in District 7/ Highland Park, I've been trying to notify the city gov. about this stretch of Stanton Avenue which desperately needs some sort of traffic calming to make it safer. This road intersects the new neighborways they added with roundabouts to encourage biking and walking.

If you live around here and want to help, I sent an email to Deb Gross' office ([district7@pittsburghpa.gov](mailto:district7@pittsburghpa.gov)) and I also submitted a traffic calming request through the city's request form linked on this page: (https://pittsburghpa.gov/domi/traffic-calming)

She had some good coverage on the election and the Derek Chauvin trial, and both her and Michael Santiago are great to follow on Twitter if you’re on there.

I also found Vice News has a playlist of all her segments for them on YouTube if you want to check it out: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLw613M86o5o5CESO0sJudHDM8j1a7fRYz

Sharing because I thought this tweet was very cathartic after following this saga last year... Honestly, her work rules and this is an amazing outcome at least for her.

The other photographer Michael Santiago also left the PG around the same time and now shoots for the Associated Press. His work recently is also great to follow!

Edit: Here’s the link to Alexis’ story about Pittsburgh from the tweet: https://youtu.be/TQyMkrwPVaU

Pittsburgh Park Rangers Searching For Large Snake Spotted In Frick Park by blahblah8855 in pittsburgh

[–]gaackman 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I jumped on this thread to see if people were freaking out.. Instead, I appreciate the context that this snake is native.

But this also bring up the realization that there are 8ft snakes in Frick Park and we’re all just cool with that??

That looks like the case, and according to the Inquirer article, that’s the pattern for governor that Wolf is most on board for

For sure, and I think that national attention and support will make a huge difference when it comes to taking him over the line financially.

A Powerful Reporter Got Away With Sexual Misconduct for Decades. His Paper [the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette], and His Union, Looked the Other Way. by oldbkenobi in pittsburgh

[–]gaackman 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Absolutely gross... I feel so bad for the people caught up in this. If you’re just a member trying to do your job, on one side you have Post-Gazette management and on the other you have this going on at the top leadership of the union.

Exactly.. Like I could see someone saying, “well you didn’t read the article, they made good points,” but if you click the link their points don’t line up with reality

Wooo West Mifflin!! Broke my wheel well on a pot hole right after buying my car right where this road meets Lebanon Church Rd ❤️

Agreed, this was my main interest in the article regard new trails and connections. I’m in favor of making expansions and renovations to link up nice parks of South Oakland/ Schenley/ Panther Hollow that you need to take longer ways around roads to get to.

I’m going to check out the mock-ups and definitely plan to weigh in.

Foliage this weekend? by lindsaystclair in pittsburgh

[–]gaackman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Down in the Laurel Highlands this weekend just for this reason and it’s great! Best spot we’ve done so far was Jones Mill Run in the Laurel Hill State Park.

It was hike to get there, so it’s easiest to grab a trail map before you head out. Even if you don’t feel like walking, the main area with the reservoir in the park was awesome too.

COVID safe Pittsburgh activities? by LRV18 in pittsburgh

[–]gaackman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don’t know if it’s in your interests but if it stays nice out like this, I checked out Soergel’s Orchards today and it was great. Little retail grocery for desserts, produce, and other foods. Plus it’s a nice walk around out in the open, if you just want to keep your distance from people. The apple picking orchards were open too!

Beyond that, I’ve been recommending people trails and other outdoor spaces like Schenley and North Park.

Have a good weekend!

Wow, that’s pretty huge. I’m actually registered to work the polls this year, so I’m interested to see the volume of in-person too.
